Did Southeast get the shaft?
More thoughts on the night in football tomorrow, but one question to consider now for those of you who were at Ragsdale-Southeast: Did you think a hold should have been called on the decisive touchdown? I'll say this: That was one of the most heated post-game atmospheres I've ever been around.

it doesnt matter if there should have been it wasn't. and there is no reason to get worked up about it b/c its over with. refs are human like the rest of us and make mistakes

Yes there was a hold on the last pass. You can see it plain as day on digtriad.com. There was also a roughing the passer no call on 3rd down. There were also bad spots of the ball for both teams. Like it not refs are a big part of the game.
What I do not understand is how the booking agent supplied these refs to this game. This game very well may have decided the outcome of the conference champion. The head official looked to be in his late sixties or early 70s. He was slow to put the ball in play and slower trying to run.Very bad officiating all night for both teams.
My question to Coach Fritz would be where was his "good defensive line" on all the passes attempted by Romer on the last drive. He went 8 of 10 for 90 yards! SE rushed 3 and dropped 8 into coverage and Romer still picked them apart. Who's to say that he would not have completed the pass whether there was a hold or not?
The only shaft SE got was the play calling on offense by their coach. They cannot blame that on the refs. It is disappointing that a coach who ran the most basic, no risk, no reward offense every seen by these eyes would dare to argue that the ref's cost his team the game.

SE definitley got the shaft. That non call clearly cost the Falcons an opportunity to win the Football game. However, SEG should have never been in position to lose that ball game; PERIOD. The officiating crew didn't put SEG in position to lose that ball game.
SEG scrapped the Spread due to injuries, but that doesn’t excuse some of the play calling. It just seemed like the attitude was let’s not do anything on offense to lose this ball game. There was nothing aggressive about the play calling. I applaud the SEG offensive line. They blocked well all night long even though everyone in county knew where the ball going.
Point 2. The SEG kicker was not there for the extra point because he was getting his knee worked on due to a play that should have never happened. Topps slipped while planting to punt the football. The rekick was the result of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on an SEG player. I thought that penalty was a bigger factor than the officiating because it didn’t have to happen. That’s at least two ball games in a row where the same kid has been flagged with a 15 yarder on special teams. This time it almost cost the Falcons their starting QB and it lost the team an extra point.
Point 3. Offensive penalties in crucial situations. The Falcons were in Field Goal range on at least two occassions Monday night only to be pushed back by penalties. That has to be fixed. The Falcons had the ball on the Tiger’s 8 yard line and had to settle for a 35 FG attempt to put the game away after being pushed back by penalties. I know that a 35 yarder is makeable, especially for a kid that was All Conference last year, but 25 is definitely closer than 35. You don’t need a degree in Physics to figure that out.
Point 4. The Ragsdale kids stepped up when they needed to. They didn’t quit. They came to play. They made the plays necessary down the stretch to win the football game.
I would hate to see this series end like this. I hope we have round 2 in the playoffs.
