Cartoon makes light of life-or-death issue
I'm writing in response to your cartoon about the Terri Schiavo case on March 23. Could you be any more cruel? I'm sorry, but you just don't publish something like that in a newspaper. This was a life-or-death situation. This wasn't something like the Michael Jackson case or Martha Stewart. This is a family. A life. This was Terri's life, and I don't think that it should have been made into a joke.
Never should someone's life be made into a laughing matter. An individual is worth more than that and deserves better than that. I would think the News & Record, as a newspaper, would have more consideration than that and wouldn't just put a cartoon into the newspaper on a topic that's everywhere.
I would think you would actually put some thought and sympathy into what you're publishing. That's what I would think, but, then again, I'm only 15 years old.

But hardly anyone publicly objected the making of this private, family matter into a media and governmental circus of disgusting proportions. The Schindler family and they supporters played the media like a violin. This was one circus that I hope gets booted out of town and never returns.

While I am thankful that a 15 yo does even read the newspaper AND the editorial page too, I feel that maybe a better understanding should be taken when commenting.
While Lindsay Levan is stating an opinion that I respect the right to do so, I have to disagree with what is stated. As Eric commented, there was no mention to the worldwide media circus that was begun by Ms. Schiavo's family.
And even more so, what about the attempt (and successful at that) of the parents to get the Federal Government involved in the issue of a single individual person. There has to be some middle ground in all of this.
Why bombard the N & R because of an editorial comic? If one reads the editorial page, then is should be noted that those things are the views of the Editorial Board/Personnel at the N & R. While disagreeing with those views is acceptable, one should engage brain before critizing another.

For someone who is 15, Lindsay Levan comes off sounding a whole lot smarter than many of the adult letters that I read. Regardless of what Terry Schiavo's husband, parents, and extended family did during the fight over her life, an editorial cartoon that pokes fun at someone who has no ability to defend themself is wrong and in bad taste. And if any blame is to be put on the media circus surrounding this case, don't you think it should be placed on the media? It was their decision to splash this garbage all over the paper and on every news show on air. And I doubt they would be doing that if we weren't sitting there ready to lap it all up.
