Good jobs are at stake
Of late, the stories about the illegal aliens working in the aircraft maintenance area at the local company TIMCO have gotten my interest. I keep waiting for the "illegal aliens only take jobs that Americans don't want to do" crowd to surface. Or the "they only fill low-paying jobs that Americans don't want" crowd.
Here we have very high-paying, responsible and technically demanding jobs being stolen from the American people by illegals, and no one is bringing that up.

Companies, at least in my area, prefer to hire illegal immigrants because they can pay them less than minimum wage, offer them no benefits and work them as many hours as the immigrants are willing to work. In other words these companies can avoid adhering to any labor laws. It means a larger profit margin for them to be able to hire illegals over US citizens. And it is their propaganda that supports the nonsense that American citizens don't want the jobs illegal immigrants fill.
If these companies had some incentive to stop this practice, ie, a stiff fine for each illegal immigrant found working for them, it might curb the influx of illegals.
We already have proof of where our country is headed with regards to illegal immigrants. We have cowtowed to this particular group more than any other country. We have, as Dan pointed out in another post, everything in Spanish as well as English. I wonder how long it will be before we have everything in Spanish only.
In our community we have programs to help illegals become legal. Many prefer to remain illegal because they don't have to pay taxes but get the benefits of tax-paying citizens. I have seen several different illegals use the insurance card of one legal resident. A large number of them use the emergency department at hospitals to avoid paying for an office visit. And the ones that do not use a legal's insurance card and who don't have medicaid are paid for by the American taxpayer indirectly rather than directly.
Like many of you I have no problem with someone entering the country legally and working hard to make a better life for themselves and their families. I just wish they would not arrive here expecting government-subsidized handouts.

Yvonne, I'll disagree with you on that statement, but you got it right the rest of the way. From other posts you have made here, I am quite surprised to read your comments. Thank you.

Fallacies:
1) Undocumented workers don't pay taxes.
This is false: Every undocumented worker using a false SSN pays taxes, but doesn't file taxes. Therefore, they actually pay into the system, with no refunds.
2) Undocumented workers are to blame for working in the USA.
Think about the laws of capitalism: Supply and Demand. There is a supply of workers South of the Border, and a demand for them here by companies large and small. Even Wal-Mart thumbs their nose at the INS when it comes to hiring undocumented workers. Yvonne, show me where undocumented immigrants can receive public benefits. Please, because I just can't buy that.

For me to give specifics would be a HHIPA violation but I can tell you I have seen it with my own eyes. I can tell you also I have been told by someone who does payroll at a company in HP that illegal immigrants do not necessarily pay taxes like the rest of us do. There are plenty of illegal things being done by companies that snub their noses at INS. Considering the money these companies make while no one challanges them, I'm not suprised at the popularity of this practice.

Jim, you are correct, to a point. The illegal alien pays Social Security taxes but they often list so many exemptions that little or no actual federal and state income tax is taken out. None of us get refunds on Social Security, so in effect, they've paid no actual refundable taxes.
