Keep Tom Friedman; he's worth $34,000
Please don't drop The New York Times News Service. Thomas Friedman's column alone is easily worth $34,000. Our community needs to read the truth about what's happening in the world, and nobody on the commentary page is more knowledgeable and sincerely devoted to peace, stability and our competitiveness in today's global environment than Friedman.

Here's a better idea, pay for the friggin' service yourself. Idiots.....

Friedman's purely anecdotal commentaries can be found on the Times website. Sign yourself up. Friedman's "truth" about globalization is not without its critics...perhaps the N&R will fill Tommy Boy's spot with one of them...

I'm sure you neo-cons are happy about this.
Maybe the N&R can start getting their points from the White House Press Office, would that make you happy?

An Apology,
I have intentionally offended many people in this forum. I've been throwing grenades over a wall and not caring where they landed. Well, they did land and people were insulted and offended. This is not a fair representation of who I am or of all the hard work that's made this format possible.
I apologize for the manner in which I've chosen to act and respond. I hope my interaction from this point on will exemplify my sincerity.

I like the idea of allowing readers to comment on letters. I do wonder, though, whether you're verifying e-mail addresses before publishing comments. jimjones@peoplestemple.com?

Oh God, they've gotten to Steve. Lilly, RUN!!!!

Settle down, Beavis, I mean, Jim...before you start indiscriminantly lobbing around the term neo-cons, perhaps you need to do more comprehensive reading on the topic(s) that Friedman covers and realize that his only critics aren't neo-cons or armchair economists angry their textile job is now situated south of the border. I wouldn't have so much of an issue with some of Friedman's statements if he were able to back them up with empirical data - even his books are collections of anecdotal "evidence." Real truth and knowledge is found in understanding every side of an issue - Friedman represents only a portion of the dialog on a very large topic.

Steve, I think you have offered a lot of food for thought in this forum and, when you chose to use it, an incredible sense of humor. You, as is true for all of us, have posted some things that others found offensive. But often it is the perception of the receiver that makes it offensive.
I know I have misunderstood a completely innocent comment before and have been misunderstood before. We are humans with human frailties who post here to connect with other humans and share a part of ourselves.
We work at a disadvantage in that we don't know one another, can't see each other and do not have "instant" response options. And this forum is impersonal sometimes so the "human" factor is misplaced. Therefore we have to hang in here and keep the humaness factor alive. It is only when we "see" each other as individual humans, with an individual contribution, that understanding can thrive.
Thanks for being the kind of person who "hangs in there". And from my standpoint, no apologies necessary.

I like "truth"'s idea about this subject the best. Oh and "Oh God, they've gotten to Steve. Lilly, RUN!!!!" I liked that too. :)
steve you didn't need to apologize. Where are you anyway?

I am taking a break from this for a while. I did send the comment about Dawn Upson because she e-mailed me. I am currently in hell, and there I will stay until I make things better. Joe, Sarah and Lilly, be good to each other. Truth, take off the mask. Yvonne, you have the biggest heart of them all. See you later in the summer.

Steve, I know the way to hell AND back. If I can be of assistance, you know how to reach me. Be good to yourself. I hope your healing is a smooth process and you will rejoin us soon. I am praying for you and your journey back.
