Sharon didn't practice what he'd preached

According to the agreement at Sharm El-Sheik a few months ago between Mahmoud Abbas and Ariel Sharon, Sharon was to abide by several provisions if Abbas were to rein in Hamas and the resistance movement.

Sharon agreed to release Palestinian prisoners, who count up to 7,000, to pull out his military from five Palestinian cities and to evacuate from settlements in Gaza.

But the facts are that Sharon did not follow through with any of the above. On the contrary, he tightened his rein even more, delaying his leave of Gaza, and building and expanding settlement activity around East Jerusalem despite President Bush's order not to do so.

One has to remember that Sharon is not one who can reason and help an occupied people. Sharon is an extremist who engineered the buildup of settlements on Palestinian land.

His militaristic background molded his nature to be violent against his enemies. He has blood on his hands by killing innocent Palestinian and Lebanese civilians over the years.

There are 92 military checkpoints within the occupied West Bank, and only 12 between the Israeli and Palestinian borders. This is proof of how the Israeli occupation is choking Palestinian life, especially with the buildup of the fascist wall that creates havoc in Palestinian economic and social life.

"despite President Bush's order not to do so"

Newsflash. Sharon doesn't take orders from President Bush.

Victor, I agree with most of your letter but am surprised you expected Sharon to be a man of his word. He was respondible for the massacure of thousands of innocent men, women and children. Did you really expect him to play nice now?

And although I detest Sharon, who gave Bush the power or authority to order any other leader to do or not do anything with regards to another country? Just another example of Bush's delusions of granduer.

Mr. Ganim if you care so deeply about your people's situation why didn't you have the courage to stay and do what you could to help.

Your Palistinian brothers and the rest of the Arab world have attacked Israel several times, you send your children to die in homicide bombings, that have resulted in the deaths of many Israelis.
The Israelis are outnumbered 700 to one I believe.

Mr. Ganim it is not alright to kill Jews anymore, not ever again. If your people are willing to live peacefully with your Israeli neighbors then all will be well but it is not alright to kill Jews anymore, not ever again. But then you have chosen to run away from your people and their problems and instead write spite filled letters from your safe comfortable home.

Yvonne you are either ignorant of the history of the Pales tinians or you are an anti-semite. The Palestinians attacked the New Israeli country in 1948 when the British pulled out . Failing in their attempt to wipe out Irael a large number of Palestinians were taken in by Jordan, who aided them in their attack on Israel, and proceeded to start a civil war and attempted to take over the Jordanan government.

Failing in this attempt they were next taken in by Lebanon, where the Palestinians started another civil war. This time it took the Lebanese, Syrians and the Israelis to quell the the war started by the Palestinians.

Now these same Palestinians and their offspring are back in Israel and again are engaged in killing and war.

Please explain why the Israelis are not supposed to defend themselves from Palestinian mad killers.
Please explain why the Israeli are not supposed to defend themselves from the rest of the Arab countries. Have you an explanation or are you just another biggot.

Yellowdog, You and I finally agree on something, the sun is peeking out on this dreary day.

The Palistinians and others want Israel wiped of the face of the planet. Since that's not going to happen, they resort to terrorism. No matter how wronged you feel, strapping a bomb to yourself and blowing up a bus can never be justified, especially with Allah.

Maybe now that Arafat is six feet under some progress can be made.

Well said Dan thanks.

Yellowdog, Since I can unequivocally say I am not anti-semite, I must be ignorant (since those are the only two choices you allow me). However, I didn't realize being aganist raiding villeges, killing innocent civilians, raping and murdering women and children and trying to steal land that doesn't belong to one equates ignorance. Sharon being Jewish has nothing to do with his disregard for life of the innocent.

That fight has been going on for longer than I am old. And I'm sure it will continue long after I'm gone. It is of little consequence to me who wants what for whatever reason. I am one who happens to believe the end does not necessarily justify the means. Like Bush involving us in war for a series of reasons. Just because Saadam is no longer in power doesn't justify the loss of so many innocent lives.

IMO Sharon is a butcher. If that makes me ignorant, so be it. I'm guilty.

Oh, and BTW, his butchering was not in Israel, his unit/troops were in Palastine and other countries. That would make him the aggressor, IMO.
