Oprah arrived too late for her shopping spree
First, I have the utmost respect for Oprah Winfrey and what she stands for, and all her charitable deeds. But, this thing that happened to her at the Hermes store in Paris is being overblown.
If what the Hermes people are saying is true, the store closed at 6:30 and Oprah arrived with her film crew and entourage at 6:45 -- without any prior knowledge of her arrival -- plus the store had a private function scheduled.
One of Oprah's close friends said that Oprah had recently purchased close to $80,000 worth of handbags at the store but would no longer be spending her money there, and that she planned to tell her friends to stop shopping there.
Oprah supposedly said, if it had been Julia Roberts at the door, she would have been allowed inside. I'm sorry, I don't think this issue warrants all the press and airtime it's receiving. It doesn't rank up there with the American lives being lost in Iraq, or the high cost of prescription medicine for senior citizens.
I think Oprah has chosen the wrong cause to champion. Come on, get real -- goodbye Hermes, hello Kmart?

Amen! I wonder if Oprah even remembers a time when she wasn't the Queen of the World? Before she became a star, would she even have bothered trying to get into a K-Mart after its posted closing time?
I know regular people are capable of seeing a sign about store hours, looking at their watches (assuming they have one, natch) and determining the fact that the store closed 15 minutes before they arrived. And nearly all of them are also able to say "Darn! The store is closed, so I can't shop right now. Oh well."
Hardly ANY of them would start crying about how unfairly the mean store people treated them, or bringing race into the conflict.
Sheesh!

"Sat in that jail, I sat in that till jail til I felt like I's bout to rot to death. I know what it like to wanna go somewhere and cain't. I know what it like to wanna sing . . and have it beat out 'ya. I want to thank you Miss Celie, fo evrything you done for me. I 'members that day in the store with Miss Millie - I's feelin' real down. I's feelin mighty low. And when I seed you - I know'd they is a God. I knowd they is a God." (Sofia- "The Color Purple")

That was great steve. The next time someone calls you illiterate, I'm going to reference them to this post.
As for Oprah, too much ego! If Oprah and Julia (whom I dislike also) were both standing at the door and Julia was allowed in, then Oprah would have a gripe. As Eric said, the store was closed.
Why is Oprah better than everyone else walking the street? Oh yeah, eighty grand of purses and, according to other reports, there to purchase an expensive watch for Tina Turner. Now if I go to Home Depot, purchase a top of the line tractor, three thousand square feet of flooring, several hundred square of shingles, and one of those really nice out-buildings, do you think they're going to open up the doors for me at 11 p.m.?
Oprah touts herself to be representing the common people, but she's just like the rest of the celebrities out there. They think their's doesn't stink. So Oprah is now going to boycott Hermes. How many of her fans can comply with that request? Nearly all of them because they've never shopped there to begin with. They can't afford it.
When will people realize Oprah is not the moral compass and deity she thinks she is? Stop watching her show.....and that damn Dr. Phil too.

Oprah is an egotistical bitch, and I love her for it.

I love the word bitch.

Me too, bitch.

Then call Oprah & tell her to quit her bitchin.

You folks on this post as usual have it all wrong.
Oparah is in the right on this matter. I know for a fact if Julia Roberts comes to my door I'll probably let her in no matter what the hour.
