Sunday morning ban annoys beer buyer

I went to the grocery store early on Sunday morning to buy food for two weeks. When I got to the cashier, she said I could not buy beer because it was not noon yet.

If I am buying food for two weeks, why can't I buy beer for that time period also?

I do not understand the reasoning behind no alcohol sales before noon on Sunday. Is it because the lawmakers are majority Christians and Sunday morning should be devoted to prayer and God? What about Thursdays for Hindus, Fridays for Muslims, and Saturdays for the Jewish community?

I think that if a customer is purchasing 15 unique items or more, then alcohol should be sold at any time, due to the fact that the customer is purchasing groceries for a few days or more.

The reason you don't understand the reasoning behind these laws is that there is none.

Vote Libertarian to put a stop to this nonsense.

easy solution......shop on saturday.

Easier solution: get rid of laws that put the practices of one religion over any other or create the establishment of any one religion's practices as the law of the land.

Sue, I agree with what you have posted but it goes deeper than that. It is intrusion of governmental laws at it's best. It is the attempt of the government to save us from ourselves. That is the reason alcohol is not sold on election day either.

I travel a lot and run into these silly laws all the time. No beer period on Sunday in SC, GA & other states unless in a restaurant. KY: stayed in a county the makes bourbon, tried to get a beer in a restaurant: dry county. PA: No beer in curb markets or grocery stores, gotta go to a "package store". There they will only sell you a case minimum and it cannot be cold!!

When we moved to NC in 1970 you could not buy gas on Sunday, although you could buy oil. Out of state travellers would get stuck on I-85 & 95 if they were not aware to fill up in SC or VA prior to entering NC.

Election day is truly THE day one needs a drink Yvonne!

WHAT?!! Are you talking about the ABC stores or beer/wine in general?

I'm very skeptical of that claim.

Alcohol is not sold in Fayetteville/Cumberland County (home of Ft. Bragg) on Sunday, either.
I think it has something to do with wanting young paratroopers to be sober when they report for duty early Monday mornings!

I live in PA and you can buy beer on sundays. if you only want a six pack you can buy it in a bar in most beer stores it is cold also. but i aalways go to DE to get it. The beer, liquor, and cigarettes are all sold on sundays in the same stores and they have lower taxes than PA or NC therefore it is cheaper than it is in PA or NC.

Dan said:

ady, you are right, someone directed me to a restaurant that sells beer. I just wanted 2 or 3 for my one night hotel stay. The package store told me only a case of hot ones!! That was in Lancaster, maybe the Amish have more rules, but still pretty inconvenient.

Hey Steven, just shop early, or give up the alcohol. Fill up the bowl on sunday morning.. LOL.

Hugh, If you decide to check out this web site, save yourself time by scrolling almost to the end of this very detailed (long) article on prohibition to find this quote: "Sales are prohibited almost uniformly on Election Day, at least during polling hours, and, in many places, on Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Christmas and other holidays." www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/ LIBRARY/studies/nc/nc2a.htm

Better yet, try buying alcohol on election day!

Joe Schmoe said:

Lilly, what "cereal" do you recommend for Mr. Comas? The "high" fiber kind?

Lilly said:

Well Joe, if its a "high" he's looking for, and I think it is, then yes by all means a "high" fiber cereal.

Maybe he just wants to stock up for his 'neck race so he won't have to move.

Steven must be one of those types to wake up and go to the store for a quick six before work.

Don't be such an alcoholic Steve.

Mac said:

Well when the Ragheads take over, as the libs seem determined to let them, they don't allow alcohol sales of any kind.

Problem solved.

Mac,
Your ignorant and stupid anti liberal, "raghead" remarks are funny. Please continue to share them with us on a regular basis, for it solidifies your place in this world as a dumb_ _ _.
