Yow owes an apology for insulting remarks
Billy Yow's comments on the fiscal irresponsibilities of Democrats and other comments and actions have not only been racist but also ignorant. Not only should he be forced to resign, an apology should be in order.
People in the city or county, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, should be insulted. I, personally, feel that he has disrespected the civil rights of black people. We have struggled, still paying the price for overwhelming ignorance such as Yow's and others' alike.
The museum is only a small percentage of the massive amounts due to the African American people. Yow's comment was more personal than a comment of a county commissioner. I am not shocked at all at such racism, but I'm sick and tired of Yow's personal feelings of ignorance.
There are people of all races, backgrounds and political views who have contributed to the museum and are still supporting the museum.
Yow needs to keep his personal and professional views and matters separate when he is speaking on anything in reference to county matters.

And Skippy and Brucie are perpetuating the "overwhelming ignorance" every time they open their mouths. And as long as the black (not all are of African descent) keep demanding respect instead of earning it, as ALL people should, the racism will go on.
I don't agree with most of what Billy says, but I do have to agree that I don't want my tax dollars going to the museum. I'd rather have more law enforcement officers or better mass transportation, something that will serve ALL of the people.

Toni,
Mr Yow owes nobody an apology. He is REPRESENTING his district. Just like Skip is REPRESENTING his.
I cannot believe you took time out of your life to express discontent for Mr. Yow's comments, when Skip and Bruce sit up there like fat cats for either not paying taxes, or stealing ours.
If I were at the meeting that night when Mr. Yow spoke I would of jumped up and shouted! (like in church).
He tells it how it is, and I suppose that makes some people uncomfortable. :)

APOLOGIZE?????!!! You must be kidding! What in the world does he have to appolgize for? Having the gonads enough to actually SAY what he thinks instead of just complaining about it?
I guarentee you, he really does speak for almost all of his district.
If you want to contribute to this museum, then great! It does not matter what color a person is or what organization or business they represent. If you want to give a financial contribution, then go right ahead. I think everyone should help a cause they believe in.... BUT....I DO NOT agree that our tax dollars should. Not when we don't have the money to do so without raising taxes.
Man... I feel so much safer at night when I lay my head on my pillow knowing that my tax dollars went to the museum. Do we really need patrol officers here in the county? Nah...We have such a crime free county and everything.

"The museum is only a small percentage of the massive amounts due to the African American people."
I wish the writer would have expanded upon this. I have read some of these websites for slavery reparations. At first they outright demanded that each black person be paid $$ in reparations. That didn't fly, so now you are seeing demands for apologies and politically correct extortion a la Wachovia recently.
I have no problem with a civil rights museum, but it should be funded with private donations and run by competent people. Instead Toni Henderson obviously plays the race card and probably wants taxpayers to pick up the tab for Alston & Davis incompetence. Sound familiar?
Billy Yow may be a bit rough on the edges, but I commend him for not bowing to political correctness and the calling Skippie & Brucie on their antics.

""The museum is only a small percentage of the massive amounts due to the African American people.""--I sense an entitlement attitude. Give me, give me, give me because something bad happened to my ancestors.
JC said: "And as long as the black (not all are of African descent) keep demanding respect instead of earning it, as ALL people should, the racism will go on."--truer words were never spoken.

Skippy's big hole over on Elm St. is a shining example of racial extortion. Skipppy obviously took lessons from Jesse Jackson on how to play the race card/victim card to suck taxpayer money from the system.
I think we should demand an accounting of every single tax or government dollar spent in that rathole that never seems to get repaired. And if anything is amiss, Skippy needs to find himself the subject of a grand jury investigation.

Hey, a black dude called my Dad a "Honky" in 1967...now if I could get just $1.00 from every African-American in this country in reparations...

i wonder if black people care about white peoples rights? the truth is all black schools perform worse than all white schools. they bring the value of nice older neighborhoods down. after all white people have done to help bring them up they just drag everyone else down with them. my property has devalued $10,000 in the past 4 years since blacks have started to move in my neighborhood

Then Toni, why don't you ask your beloved Skip to account for the millions he wasted on projects that were supposed to help the very people he claims to support?
Have you seen Skip's house? Ever wonder how he paid for that mansion? YOUR people's money Toni.

yeah Toni... Get a grip on reality ok? Skip needs to go DOWN... He contributes NOTHING to this county. All he does is take.
I'm open minded, show me where skip actually contributed to guilford county. I'm ready to hear your response.

Dear Ms. Henderson:
The reason your people lag behind ALL other races in nearly every measurable achievemnet category is because of the twisted mentality of people like you. You are "owed" nothing more than any other citizen of this country. This country,(and county) are so screwed up because we have been forced to have specically designed districts guaranteeing the election of people (Skip Alston, Bruce Davis, Mel Watt) whose only qualification for office is the color of their skin. None of these fools could be elected dogcatcher in any mainstream district. They then have access to our tax dollars to fund projects that most of us could care less about. If a civil rights musueum is such a good idea you should have no trouble convincing people to "voluntarily" give donations, rather than having them "extorted" by crooks like Alston and Davis. If this country is so bad perhaps you'd rather live in some of those utopias in your homeland such as the Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethopia, etc. Yeah, you've got it tough here compared with those paradises!

Yow is a loser and a racist. He should be fired and made to repay his salary to the taxpayers. Actually, all of them should be fired.

I am shocked by some of the remarks by other readers. Yes, I agree that our tax dollars should be used for improvements, policing, etc. I also agree that some rather shady projects have been the beneficiaries of our very own money. This race issue is out of hand. Race should never be a factor in how our tax dollars are spent. If that is the best argument people have for this particlar project, this county is in sad shape. Historical site, without a doubt. Justification for tax hikes, not likely. I refuse to apologize for what my ancestors (all of whom I never knew) did to your ancestors (ditto, unless you are a medium). So, please, have a fundraiser, gala, auction, etc. to raise money for this project and let me continue to struggle to support my own minority household. (Single white female, 1 child)
