Seeking compassion

John McCain and other Republican senators are working on legislation that would ban the U.S. military from hiding detainees from the Red Cross, and bar U.S. soldiers from participating in cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment. I wish them luck.

By the way, George Bush (for some reason) is against this legislation. So, this is compassionate conservatism?

What other nuggets of wisdom are attached to the proposed legislation? If it indeed only what you say then it would be the shortest bill I've ever seen passed.

Hey dubya what you say
How many troops will you kill today.
Yep that's christian compassionate conservatism alright.

i would agree. To often politicians are raked over the coal from the other side, who normally leave out the complete truth, for not signing some bill that should have been a slam dunk based on the points of the critic. In the end the person refused to sign the bill because of some controversial attachment.

If Bush refused to sign the bills because of other attachments then I would be interested into what they were before any judgements can be made.

Never knew the us military was "hiding" detainees from the red cross. They let the chappaquiddick kid in to see them last week and he reported all is well with the "detainees". What gives? Music too loud? My neighbor is guilty of this from time to time. Lemon baked fish undercooked? My wife is guilty of this also.
Too bad the terrorists didn't let the red cross in to visit Daniel Pearl before they sawed his head off, they could have given his family a last message from him.

I just heard on radio news that 14 US soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb yesterday. Now that is compassion - good work dubya. Our valient young men deserve a better fate.

Compassionate Conservatism means:

A culture of life - where they are opposed to abortion, but ok with war (classifying innocent Iraqis killed as 'collater damage'), and ok with the death penalty

Not passing legislation that would raise the minimum wage, thus leaving many families out in the cold.

Wanting to limit funding for stem cell research, which could help untold numbers of people.

Come on guys, America is tired of your conservative crap and puzzling hipocrasy!

Yard Dog, You never knew? Know now.

"Opposed to abortion but ok with war" Don't recall it being unborn children flying hijacked planes into the wtc. "And ok with the death penalty". So,it is ok with you if someone who rapes and murders an 8 year old child spends 15-20 years in a detention center then is released to do it again? "not passing legislation that would raise the minimum wage". The minimun wage is for kids bagging groceries, not for the carreer minded person. Anyone trying to raise a family on the minimum wage should be steralized.
The stem cell research is arguable, the rest of these points are silly.

"Anyone trying to raise a family on the minimum wage should be steralized."

Like I said, compassionate conservatism!

Thanks for proving my point.

Brian pointed out a contradiction in beliefs with people opposed to abortion,ie now the culture of life, with war and the death penalty, which have nothing to do with the culture of life. I dont understand the connection you were trying to make about it wasnt unborn children flying planes into the buildings. What does your point have to do with the contradiction?

I dont know brian or his position on the death penalty but could not someone be anti-death penalty but believe in life in prison without parole,ie brian never suggested these people should be walking after 20 years. Whose arguement was that anyway yours or his?

Why are points silly or stupid when they criticize Bush but are of merit and truth when they criticize liberals? Just a general question not directed at yard dog.

Hayes, I know you are not directly refering to me,but I have never called anyone stupid. I have called some of their points silly. I believe no one who is capable of using a computer and writing a letter is stupid.
Roch101, Makes no difference if the military hid some of the terrorists, they still are terrorists, right?
Briankeith, you're welcome.

no I was not refering to you. It was just a general comment based on what has been written here by some people.

I really try avoiding calling anyone or any comment stupid so I hope you did not take it as so.
