Wade should relent and let Parks take seat

More than 10 months ago Trudy Wade lost the election for a seat on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners to John Parks, yet she refuses to concede defeat.

Through a series of legal maneuvers, Wade is challenging the votes of county residents who legitimately cast provisional ballots. Her demands for repeated recounts and her appeals to the courts are very expensive for the taxpayers of Guilford County and the state.

Following the example of George W. Bush in 2000, Wade prefers to be selected by activist Republican judges in the state's Supreme Court rather than accept the will of the majority of the voters. Her effort to suppress legal votes demonstrates her contempt for the electoral process. Last week the State Board of Elections conducted yet another recount here in Guilford County and found John Parks the winner by 90 votes.

It's time for Wade to stop being a sore loser and step aside to let John Parks assume his rightful seat as a county commissioner.

I too think that Wade should concede as she has lost the election. But....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Al Gore that demanded all the recounts to the Fl. ballots in 2000? And this was after Bush had won by more than 90 votes?

The following is my opinion only: Ms.Baker states that all the recounts are very expensive to the county. But IMO it would be more cost effective in the long term to keep her on as county commissioner because Parks will most likley side with the democrats on every tax increase that comes from Skip & co.

neocon,
Good post and I agree with you. This race has shades of Al Gore written all over it, but it was ok with some people THEN to have recounts!

Let's look at Ms. Baker's closing sentence in a different light:
"It's time for Wade (Gore) to stop being a sore loser and step aside to let John Parks (George Bush) assume his rightful seat as a county commissioner (President)."

I wonder if Ms. Baker felt the same in 2000? Probably not.

Richard Nixon had more decency in 1960 by not challenging the dead democrat voters of Cook County Illinois in the USSC than Gore displayed in 2000 by taking his demand to the USSC that only certain heavy democrat vote counties in Florida be subject to a recount.

Sure Al Gore called for a recount and took it to the Supreme Court, but it's the presidency of the United States and not a county commissioner seat. It didn't go on for ten months either. This matter should have been resolved long ago. It is time for Wade to stop warming someone else's chair and behave like an adult.

Joe Schmoe [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Oh yeah, if you accept the will of the majority of the voters in the Bush/Gore election it would be Gore's victory as he curried the majority of the popular vote in 2000. As you know the popular vote does not elect the president, it is the electoral college.

I still can't understand why people like to take a writer's letter and edit it to their own means. I have always found that to be an absolutely childish act. Much like someone who keeps occupying a county seat for ten months when they have lost it in an election.

neocon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Perhaps the reason it didn't go on for 10 months is the supreme court put a stop to Al's demand for countless recounts.

And it was the letter writer who invoked the Bush comment into this forum, not some 'childish' act. Someone with who you don't agree is automattically branded 'childish'. This in itself is...... childish? As for Al Gore being justified in demanding a recount because it was the presidency at stake, my tax $ isn't any easier to earn wheather it goes to DC or giulford county.

Joe Schmoe [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

So by neocon's own philosophy his last post is a childish one. After all he thinks he is pointing out a childish act.

Actually when one changes a writer's words it is attributing words not written to the writer. In this case by changing the writer's words it is bringing up a settled issue. I haven't seen Mr. Gore complaining about the election results so it is a moot issue. Let's stay in the present please. The issue is about Ms. Wade and her childish refusal to step down. If every politician did as Ms. Wade has done then we would see people holding on to political positions for a lifetime by exploiting the political process.

neocon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yada, yada, yada. Bottom line: the writer was trying to equate Wade with Bush and in fact it Was Gore who was trying to steal the election. You libs have your view and I have mine.

Joe Schmoe [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not a liberal. The primary issue is Ms. Wade's refusal to step down. Would you like to stay in the present and address the issue at hand or do you want to go back and re-hash a settled issue? Your choice. As for me, I would like to see this current issue settled by Ms. Wade stepping down. She lost and she needs to get over it. How many more recounts that will waste "your" tax dollars does she need? How many more tax dollars and how much more time does the court system need to be tied up because she can not accept defeat? It's time to be an adult Ms. Wade.

Hope Parks votes as well as she does.
