Baptists want sinners to change behavior
I have read several articles about the Baptist State Convention's decision to bar homosexuals from membership. It has nothing to do with loving them. As Christians, we should love everyone but hate sin.
John 8:10-11 says, "When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, 'Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?' She said, 'No man, Lord.' And Jesus said unto her, 'Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.' " Key words: "Go and sin no more."
All the Baptists are saying is you cannot practice a known sin and be saved, and to be a member, you have to be saved.
As Christians, we love them and want to see them saved. It comes down to whether you want to believe God's word or not.

And yet another who believes that homosexuality is sin. I will restate, this issue is at an impasse. The impasse exists due to two premises; 1) The belief on whether or not homosexuality is/is not sin, and 2) Interpretation of scripture in relation to #1.
Sadly, far too many who stand in the pulpits of SBC churches, among others, have not had a good theological education. I say this in regards to the language requirements necessary for a Master of Divinity degree. Had the people in question had good Hebrew and Greek courses, then it could be seen that the texts used to classify homosexuality a sin are in question.
I do not know how many more times I will have to keep stating this, however, I will do so until some of those who believe that homosexuality is sin do some investigation and at least acknowledge that fact.

Sadly, many of these same fundamentalist Baptists don't even understand what being "saved" means. This is true of all those who hold to the "decision theology" perspective.
To "accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior" and walking down an aisle is found no where in the Bible. What Jesus was after was folks who would give up everything and follow him. What you see here in this letter is exactly what Jesus did NOT want his disciples to do...judge others as to their status with God. In Jesus day, they were called Pharisees. Today, many of us call them the American Taliban.
Log vs. splinter...my, my, my.

hello darryl my friend,
i'm a little surprised this thread would get much attention due to the extensive exposure it has enjoyed recently. i would like to ask if you believe rape to be a sin (in this supposition the rapist - a male will rape only young boys and is also a Chriatian) ? i'm not trying to trap you (i believe you know this), but depending on how you view the question i would like to continue the discussion.

Key words: "Go and sin no more". Wouldn't that make someone "perfect"? It is IMPOSSIBLE for humans not to sin. Even if they are saved. Why should homosexuals be held to this kind of standard when I'm sure there are all kinds of people sitting in church every weekend who struggle with committing the same sins over and over. To think that this is not true is just plain ignorant!!

The last 4 letters of ignorant must mean something, right?

Darryl:
Are you saying that in EVERY passage in the OT and NT relating to homosexuality that the original language would allow for God to be either neutral or supporting of homosexual behavior? There are NO clear passages in regards to this issue? Out of curiosity, what is your training in Greek and Hebrew?

are you stating that if someone is convicted by the Holy Spirit to give their life to Christ and that happens to be in a traditional church where an alter call is made....that person is not saved ? would please describe the formula that is necessary to become saved. you state that Jesus is looking for folks who would give up everything....it is here i must ask if YOU have given up all your earthly possessions and all your money and have forsaken all to follow Christ ? whenever you post you seem to go in with combat boots on and always name calling ( i.e. if we don't believe it your way we are american taliban )...is this a Christian virtue. you then reference log vs. splinter, i suggest that while you are busy judging others mr.pvixen that you also examine yourself.
one last thought, i am not baptist but i am fundamentalist and i believe i know what being saved is, perhaps it is not YOUR definition but nonetheless i am saved...praise God !
ecuman,
i can't and won't speak for darryl, but when i study i also use hebrew and greek to assist in understanding certain words that the english translation often misses what was trying to be conveyed. i use strongs concordance and some online helps and i can honestly say that by adding those tools to my study habit has paid dividends for me. so if you ever heard me cite on these blogs that a certain word in the original greek (aramic) or hebrew means this or that , please know that i am not a scholar, rather just looking for more tools to help me become a better servant to God. peace brother.

Buz:
I appreciate the additional effort you make in studying the Scriptures. I think it shows in your posts. I agree that some words don't have exact equivalents in certain other languages. However, I find it hard to believe that every passage related to homosexuality (I referring to the activity not the exact terminology) can be explained away as a translation problem. I know that is not your position. It may or may not be Darryl's position, so I need clarification on his part or by someone who is qualified in those languages to answer that question related to those specific passages.

To those who asked more personal references regarding me/my life. I will not discuss those in a blog. If you have a question regarding my life, training, etc., then email me directly as that is the only way I will respond to such questions. This blog is not the place for that.
Next, progressive makes some valid statements, just in an inflamatory manner. Read carefully and consider from whence progressive comes. Maybe progressive could be like Tony (?) in another blog regarding this same issue.
Lilly, I believe that one has also done what has been accused of the other. If one reads progressive carefully, disregarding the inflamatoriness of the words, then just maybe the context can be seen.

darryl,
when and if pvixen enters into a blog in a civil respectful manner, only then will i weigh his words. paul teaches about doing things ( even if they are correct ) that might cause others to stumble, he tells us we ought to refrain from certain behaviors in order to lift weaker believers up.( you catch more flies with honey than vinegar !) " 1Cr 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not."
so i believe when emmulate Christ when we put others needs in front of ours.
and as far as my training goes , i am currently attending HST..a home study course (i.e. Holy Spirit Teaching at home ! )
ya'll have a nice weekend ya hear!
