Jesus listed plenty of rights and wrongs

David Whitehead says, "God loves all His children, be they thief, liar, killer ... or even gay" (letter, Nov. 22). Mark File, a leader in his local church who "happens to be gay," doesn't remember Jesus having a list of rights and wrongs. He doesn't see it "anywhere in Jesus' teachings."

Where are these guys getting this stuff? Jesus had a very specific list of acceptable and unacceptable behavior. In one notable public teaching, Jesus named "evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly" as things that make us unclean (Mark 7:20-23, Matthew 15:19-20). Then he went beyond any religious leader to proclaim that even entertaining thoughts of these things is tantamount to committing the act (Matthew 5:17-22; 27-32).

Let's stop making up what we want to hear and claiming Jesus said it. Jesus didn't say, "All we need is love," "come together" or "give peace a chance." That was John Lennon. Jesus was very specific about the fact that what he called "sin" separates us from God, a place he desperately didn't want us to be. Yes, God loves all of us. He loves us enough to tell us the truth about ourselves.

And yet another causes me to restate the impasse premises; 1) Interpretation of scripture, and 2) whether homosexuality is not/is sin.

Those scriptures used in this writers diatribe DO NOT offer any such evidence!

Homosexuality is a sin.

Get over it.

Jeffrey, when you or anyone else for that matter, can show me the word/s "homosexual/homosexuality" in the texts (as original as are known) of scripture, then and only then will I even begin to consider homosexuality as sin.

Until that can be done, get a grip on life and just realize that you live around, work around, shop around, and should you worship...then very possibly even worship with a homosexual/lesbian. So live with that fact. If God has not deemed homosexuals "bad" enough to strike dead as some would have it, live with them!

darryl,
howdy friend....... " show me the word/s "homosexual/homosexuality" in the texts ".........
this is a fairly weak argument in favor of proving homosexuality is approved by God. neither will you find the word psychic in scripture but that in no way invalidates : Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

1Ch 10:13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, [even] against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit, to enquire [of it] - ( i.e. speaking with dead Samuel ,see 1 sam.28; 1-25)

Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

we are not to endeavor speaking to the dead under stiff penalty. so i i were to atgue that we are not to seek out psychics for the purpose of speaking with the dead - would i assume you would state " until you can show me the word psychics in text" (i.e.scripture) i will not consider necromancy a sin ?
to be fair i think you will admit that many words used today to convey scriptural meanings are widely used ? !

There are NO words in scripture that can even be remotely translated nor interpreted to the equivilent of homosexual/homosexuality. That word only came into use in the 19th century. Reading backwards into scripture is not contextuallly accurrate.

Seeking to use the charmer/psychic analogy is invalid. Those words are synonymous. Whereas, there are no scriptural words that are synonymous with homosexual/homosexuality.

This is what bothers me most. Not because I am convinced homosexuality is or is not a sin, but because I know what thoughts and feelings I was born with. I know I was born gay, but this scripture states that my thoughts are a sin. Does this mean that I cannot repent the sin (if I do believe it to be a sin) if I cannot stop my thoughts? To me, this scripture says that no matter what my actions, God will not forgive my thoughts. I am really becoming confused. And just to state the obvious, what was Jesus' definition of 'sexual imorality'? Was there further scripture to describe exactly what he was talking about as it directly relates to this text?

Thomas, you may be right about homosexuality being a sin. One day I will know the answer. But in my opinion, your letter does little to convince me either way.

gaytony, read those passages in the Contemporary English Version and see if further clarity can be ascertained. I believe that those readings are much more concise in defining the original texts. To find this translation, do a "google" search for "Bible Online." Then just select one of the links and choose that translation placing the text that you are seeking in the blank.

I hope that will help gaytony.

gtony having such thoughts are not sin unless acted upon, imo (see below - pay particular attention to vs. 15, it says when lust has conceived (or acted upon or indulged in then does it bring forth (become sin) sin..........
Jam 1:12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Jam 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
Jam 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Jam 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
i believe Jesus was showing that our thoughts (that which comes from within) in essence are what will lead us to the action, which produces the sin.

remember paul teaches......
2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. we are instructed ( by our will ) to take captive thoughts that seperate us from God...
so as i see i,t each of us has a part in this process...God will do His part if we are obedient to do our part.
gtony b/c your thoughts stray (mine stray every day) does not mean that God can't/won't forgive you....if your are in Christ - there is no condemnation ----if God isn't condemning quit then quit doing it to yourself ! continue to be obedient !!
