People waiting for bus need shelter from rain
There is a need for weather shelters to be placed at the city bus stops. Many times I have seen people standing in the rain waiting for the bus. Most of the time the people are older, handicapped or mothers with young children.
One particular bus stop poses a great safety hazard for the bus riders. It is located on Cotswold, next to the Wal-Mart on Battleground. At the stop, there is hardly four feet from the road to a guardrail. This is a shame for a city such as Greensboro.
Maybe the city can address this, or even Wal-Mart, which benefits greatly from this stop, can. Building sidewalks is nice, but let's build something that will be used more.

Awesome letter, David.
There is massive traffic congestion and accident potential at the Cotswold/Walmart bus stop and the people waiting for a bus are sitting ducks should a car leap the curb. (same with all bustops to a lesser degree)
I fear the beauracratic mentality of the City will require a fatality to occur before taking action for something as mundane and blue collar as bus stop safety improvements.
And you're right, it's a damn shame the city allows old women and children to stand out in the rain for a bus ride.
Public transportation doesn't appear to be a priority and the City is still crowing about the downtown Depot (bus hub) being renovated. Do you think they'll have a party and back slapping celebration when bus shelters and guard rails are built like then did when the Depot was renovated?

I agree. Gives these folks shelter. Those glass shelters I've seen around town are pretty nice.
