Wasteful spending alarms young worker

With all the added "pork" in the congressional bills as of late, President Bush should ask for line-item vetoes. This would allow for fewer corrupt congressmen helping their friends for favors, and for more of what needs to happen in Washington. Not only this, but taxpayer dollars wouldn't be wasted on seemingly useless projects.

We have way too much national debt already. Why should we increase it because congressmen want stuff for themselves? Maybe we could put the "pork" money back into something useful, like Social Security. If a teenager like myself is going to pay Social Security taxes from my meager paycheck, it had better still be here when I'm old enough to use it.

Wanna know how congress gets things done? PORK.

Wanna know how arms are twisted, what is happens when voting-times are extended and those once opposed become now in favor of? PORK.

Wanna get rid of PORK? The only answer I have is The Second American Revolution - the overthrow of one government and its replacement with another - 'cause that's what it'll take.

I hate to agree with Rockhead on anything, however he right on this. Not only is it a national problem it a state problem as well, I understand there are 101 pork projects in this state alone, at cost of 86 million $$$$. This is a democrat and republican thing, so it well always be there,Until JQ PUBLIC stands up to the politicans.

Christian, I am glad to see a young person write a letter to the editor. I agree with your statememts. The money that is wasted on all levels of government is shameful.

Just look at education in Guilford County. Look at the salaries of Grier and his many, many, many county office employees. Then look at the salaries of the teachers, and the number of students they teach. The money spent on his "Racial Healing" fiasco would have added several teachers to the county.

As said above, the Democrats and Republicans aren't going to change a thing, they have it made. Look at the article on Yahoo today which shows proposed cuts by the GOP. Shameful.

Stay aware of the how your money is being spent. Write letters to Washington, Raleigh, and the Guilford County Commissioners. Get other young people involved. Your generation and the ones who follow will inherit the debt.
