Gore's better choice than Hillary Clinton

Molly Ivins stated that she will never support Hillary Clinton and neither will I, although I am a Democrat.

Ivins is correct on about everything she says about this president and his cohorts. However, sadly, the lemmings that follow Bush's every word will never see any wrong in him or the Republican Party.

I personally wish the Democrats would show a little fortitude and nominate Al Gore. He is the only one with a chance to win (he won last time he ran) and I think he would win, but the nutcakes that think Bush is the second coming of our Lord will never change their minds.

Come on, Democrats and independents, we can win next time if you will only go out and vote.

You gotta be kidding me. What a joke. Wonder what this dude has been smokin or drinkin.
I really appreciate a good laugh to start out my morning. Hopefully I will be able to stop laughing long enough to get this posted.

Are there STILL people claiming AlGore won?? I LOVE it!!

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

While I respect and admire many things about Hillary Clinton, I too don't think she has a chance to win the presidency.

I also don't know why many are so anti-Gore. He is a brilliant man, and I also think he won the first election. Florida, home state of Governor Bush, was the deciding state. Sounds a little fishy to me still.

Would love to learn why some think Gore is not acceptable.

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

You'd have to just know the entire family, Carol, starting with Al Sr.

If you wish to be under the domination of the FAR FAR Left, then Al is your candidate.

Joe Liberman was and is the best choice for name but Warner from Virgina would be a much better choice than "lost in space" Gore.
Heck anybody but Gore. Even mainstream Democrats think he's a loser.
I am convinced of it and wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher much less president.
I think you are right about Hillary however but perhaps with Warner from Va as Pres and Hillary as VP they might make some ground. However a Warner-Liberman or Liberman-Warner would be my choice.
If the Repubs run McCain, he will give someone a good run but will lose because of his age. He will be 72 by 08.

tonymo [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Please don't let Al Gore's bout with insanity deter you from supporting him. One more time: CBS's calling the state for Gore before the polls closed in the panhandle cost Bush as many as 10,000 votes. In 2004 without the hepl of CBS Florida was not even close. Also,Gore never lead at any time during the recount despite lunacy of the Florida Supreme court permitting Gore to cherry pick the three most liberal counties in the state for a recount, then let each county use their own recount standards. What a joke. He still lost. At least five liberal newespapers, including the Miami Herald, did their own recounts. Bush won. You folks on the left need to look into some intensive therapy.

As a Republican, I beg you to run Gore. Please. As a couple of folks noted, he won Florida the first go round. That's why he's president now. Actually, I would concede that more people TRIED to vote for Gore, the equisite irony being that, since they were stupid enough to vote for him in the first place, they were also stupid enough to avoid mastering Basic Voting Skills. Every time I think of Florida and 2000, it makes me laugh. But he'd be a great candidate in 08, if people would only overlook that he's insane.

Bobby [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Please Dems, send Gore at us Reps. That would be a dream come true. We could have more fun with Gore that anyone you could send at us. That nut hasn't fall far from his tree.

Better yet, make it Gore/Hillary. Or Hillary/Gore. What we have seen from you on the left so far, this combination would be your idea leadership. Then all you would have to do is tell them how to act each day. They would be your perfect puppets. Then if it goes bad, they could say that they didn't say it and say something else. As, there's "NO LEGAL CONTROLLING AUTHORITY" or "I DON'T KNOW HOW THE RECORDS GOT THERE".

Yeah, what a team that would make.

Brian Harper [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

neither gore nor hillary are liberal enough for me to vote for.

but then again, i'd vote for osama bin laden before i voted for a republican like bush!

yellowdog [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

i don't think gore would do as good the second time around. he's lost a lot of his credibility over the last few years. democrats think he gave up too easy. others think he whined too much.

i think hillary would make an awful president too. i think we can do better than either one of them.

Bobby [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Come on, how can we have fun with you Dems if you can't get behind your two hero's. I thought Hillary was your answer to everything. And Gore is a expert on everything. No matter which side he's on.

Come on, show some guts, their your people for goodness sake. Don't you want them anymore.

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

How bout Hillary/Gore, Gore/Hillary either way and Howard Dean as Sec. of State, Dick (Cut & Run) Durbin as Sec. of Defense, Robert KKK Byrd & Jesse Jackson in charge of race relations, and Bill in charge of White House interns.

Brian voting for bin Laden before Bush shows what you really think of your country and how far out in Micheal Mooreland you are. You other Dems on board with Brian?

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Dan most folks know about brian and his views. He dishonored his country and his uniform while playing recruiter in the Navy but is in denial of such acts.

So for him to trade off his country for the likes of OBL is not surprising.

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I find it very amusing that the only people that want Hillary to run are Republicans.

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

It is amusing Denz, as the Democrats have shifted so far left that Hillary is now too conservative. Brian & Molly Ivins will attest to that.

Dems with some common sense like Lieberman are ignored by the base and the mainstream media. The focus is always one Teddy, Dick, Nancy, and Harry.

I'll admit the Repubs haven't been too shiney last year with DeLay, Abhramson (sp?) et a few others. But the Dems are in such worse disarray that it hasn't hurt the Repubs.

Who would you like to be the Dem nominee in '08?

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Dan, I wish I knew someone I could support for 2008...no matter what the party. Personally don't see any great candidates on either side. Whoever wins will be faced with a national debt that is out of sight, a conservative SC which may overturn Roe V. Wade, war in Iraq and who knows where else by the time Bush and friends are finished, GM and Ford in trouble, gas prices few can afford...what a mess. Who would want to be President?????

Who do you and other bloggers suggest?

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I would vote for Hillary in a New York minute. She's sharper than anyone that has run in a number of years, including her husband. I think that is one of the reasons most men do not care for her. She's got more on the ball than all of them in the WH put together.

I agree with Carol, though, that she could not win. This is still a man's world and men are intimidated by her. In fact, I believe I will not see any woman as president in my lifetime. Tis a pity. We need less testosterone running this country. Men have been in leadership since this country was founded and look at the mess it's in!

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yvonne, I agree that there is no reason for a woman not to be president of this country. I would have no problem at all with that.
I see Hillary's problem as one of taking too many sides at once. She needs to find a niche and hang in there come h--- or high water. Unfortunately she has not done this. That is one problem I have with her. Of course there are many men who do the same as was shown in last election.
Gov Mark Warner from Va( gotta be careful here because they have a Republican Senator with the same last name John Warner) is looking better all the time as a possible candidate. He is more of mainsteam Democrat than others. He is a southerner which will get him a lot of swing votes. He has few "pimples" on his butt from being involved in sleeze. Liberman of course is a good choice and I for one would swing, as I have done over the years
and vote for him. He is somewhat liberal on some points to attract a lot of swing voters especially in the south but over all I think he could have done much better than anything the Democrats have come up with in the past 8 years.
A Liberman/Warner ticket or Warner/Liberman ticket could be the answer to the Democrats woes, if they can overcome the FARLEFT that has captured the party and killed any hopes of getting anyone they endorse elected.

There seems to be a move in the DGA to endorse him perhaps (http://www.draftmarkwarner.com/) He has an outstanding record as Governor of VA. He seems to be well liked by both sides of the aisle.

That's about it for the Dem's. One or two others who are not even as well known have been mentioned but the Democrat Governors Association gives them little notice.

Republicans mention Romney as possibility along with the former mayor of NY who ran against Hillary. Of course some have mentioned Condi Rice but I don't think she will run.
Looks like both have a long way to go and not long to get there. You can bet your sweet that I will be doing my homework on anyone who runs. Everyone should instead of falling along with the Party Line up. That's bull.

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yvonne, please don't make the generalization that men wouldn't vote for a woman president because it's a man's world. I would vote for a woman in a NY minute if she is qualified and espoused my values. Someone like Margaret Thatcher comes to mind. Hillary doesn't share my values so I would never vote for her. By the way, Hillary is showing too much testosterone for Molly Ivins, Cindy Sheehan, and others of the same mindset.

If Kerry was running against Condi would you vote for Condi because you would like to see a woman president?

"Men have been in leadership since this country was founded and look at the mess it's in!"

Nice male bashing Yvonne with a touch of doom & gloom to boot. I see a country that, with the help of men and women, has become the most powerful and successful country in the world. I see a country where we have many, many more freedoms both politically and economically than any country on the planet. I see people flocking to this country (both legally & unfortunately illegally)to live the American dream. Don't see too many leaving, not even the left wing America bashers.

There will always be problems no matter who is running the country, man or woman. There will be mistakes made too, as we are all human. So lay off the male bashing please. Have you had experiences in your life that has influenced this?

MrP, the far left gets more shrill by the day and as long as they are the face of the Democratic party then there is slim chance of them winning much of anything. I agree Mark Warner & Lieberman would be good candidates, but most people would have no clue who Mark Warner is if you asked them.

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Your right Dan, few outside of Virginia and a few surrounding states know who he is. But there is a moe afoot to bring him into the spot light over the next year. He will figure prominently in the upcoming 06 races and will be a key spokesman for the DGA for electing democrat governors across the country, at least according to the DGA. From what I can read about him, he is a straight shooter. He tends to be conservative on many issues such as spending, which certainly will not hurt him except in the FAR LEFT camp where spending on social programs to buy the votes of the uninformed ,poor and save the world do-gooders. Keep your eyes and ears open for more of this man in the upcoming months.

yellowdog [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

you won't hear much about him. us democrats like to wait until the last minute to let you know who our candidates are so you don't have much time to sling dirt at em.

hillary clinton and her husband were trailer trash in the white house.

roe v wade will never be oveturned and both parties need to stop using it for an issue. alito may swing the court enough to bring some sanity to the issue (disallow late term abortions except in cases where absolutely necessary to save the mom's life and disallow abortions on teenagers without informing the parents. we wouldn't allow any other surgical procedure on a minor without the parent's consent or at least knowledge before or after, would we?_

now, there are a lot of other issues where i think we should be concerned about alito and the sc, just not abortion.

brian444 [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I'm glad to hear it's still a man's world. At least we have something left. My wife, though, strenuously disagrees and makes me do stuff like wash dishes. The patriarchy ain't what it used to be. On the political front, I would actually like so see a professed Democratic centrist get elected on a platform of fiscal conservatism--a Paul Tsongas sort. That and a Republican Congress looks to me like the only combination that might conceivably address the demographic ruin that we face with an aging population and entitlement spending out of control. The Republicans have sure done a sorry job, although not as sorry as the Democrats would likely have done. Viva Warner!

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yellowdog, about one of the smartest things I have heard you or others on the subject say and one that most will agree with.

That really sums up the entire picture. Thank your for offering some sanity into a world gone mad at times.

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yellowdog, you do make a lot of sense and should run for prez yourself & I might vote for you. I personally am not for abortion but realize like MrP that it isn't going to be overturned. But the pro abortion movement has gotten so far left (like the rest of the Dem party) that they actually think it's ok for a 14 year old to go get an abortion without notifying her parents. Nevermind she can't get her ears pierced or her teeth cleaned without parental consent, but no problem with an abortion!! This is lunacy.

Not sure how long you have been on this blog, but we used to have a Yellowdog who was rabid, full of hate and insults. Then one day he was gone. Glad we have a new Yellowdog who makes some sense.

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Dan, You are correct in noting my statement was very general. It has been my experience that men, in general, think a woman would not make a good president. I do come in contact with many men who voice such an opinion. Call it male bashing if you like, I am stating my experience.

I agree a woman with Thatcher's qualifications would be a perfect candidate. It is still my opinion she would not stand a chance of winning the presidency in the US. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

Like you, I would not vote for someone simply because they were female if they did not represent me politically. And I don't mean dem or repub. Although I do not believe in late term abortions either, I am strongly pro-choice, not pro-abortion (as you well know). I think children do not have the maturity or wisdom to make life-long decisions on anything, much less abortion. But there must be alternatives for a female child who is pregnant by her father. There are mothers who would support that scum-bag of a father. So what is a young girl to do in this situation?

There are few issues that are strictly black or white. Anyone who represents me politically would have to be a shades of gray thinker, not a concrete black or white one. Inflexibility would be an extremely negative trait, imo.

Insofar as the state of our country, who else would I blame it on? We have never had a female president. Sure, our forefathers did an excellent job in drafting the Constitution and giving this country a good start. And some leaders have managed to keep some of the positive things about America alive and well. However, many have managed to destroy or nearly destroy what our forefathers created, imo.

To deny that our country is in trouble is burying your head in the sand. That is all I was saying. Our political system is the pits. Most Americans vote for the lesser of the two evils because that is all they have to choose from. The system is corrupt thru and thru.

I AM NOT saying there is a better place on earth to be but rather, we are not the great nation we once were. And as all the "experts" are predicting, things will get worse before they get better. That means, to me, that there is much room for improvement. You can call it doom and gloom if you like. I call it reality.

Mr. P, Glad you are not close-minded about a woman president. Agree with Liberman assessment(for the most part); don't know anything about Mark Warner. Am one of those people who learns as much about person as they can only after someone is nominated (and before casting a vote).

Yellowdog, Have made the statement many times that abortion should not be a platform issue, especially forty years after Roe vs Wade. I was ready to end the issue after the SC made their decision. But I disagree with you that it will never be overturned. I think it is a distinct possibility now that there is no female representation on the SC.

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Very interesting reading, fellow bloggers. It seems that we all really agree on most things. I don't support abortion without parental consent except in the instances such as Yvonne mentioned.

In a family discussion recently, we agreed that there is NO good answer to an unwanted pregnancy. Abortion, adoption, and raising an unwanted child are all life-changing choices. Teaching birth control and the consequences of sexual relations is necessary. However, even a careful person winds up pregnant.

Let's help each other find the best candidates in the future. I value the opinions of most.

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yvonne, I don't see Roe v Wade being overturned. I do however see the very strong possibility that it will be better defined and I feel it should be. I do not see abortion as a means of birth control as some use it but finding some "medical or psychological reason" to call it "harmful to the health of the mother." I find that to be a lame excuse given by many of those who just don't want the responsibility of a child or to "ruin thier figure, their career etc". I do it putting guidelines as far as age and parental notification as there should be. I do not thing a 14 year old is mature enough phsychologically to make such a long term decision with out adversely creating problems in the future. I have dealt with those issues with that age group and also with adult women in their post abortion problems. It is not an easy thing to face.

I have always said that a woman could and would make a good president. I guess because my mother was the first liberated woman that I had ever known and that was many days before the word liberated woman was ever uttered. She returned to school, college when I was in the 3rd grade, graduated when I entered the 7th, with a degree in accounting, became a CPA on her first try at the exam. And all of this was done well before 1960. I was always taught that women(a wife) were not to walk behind a man, not in front of a man but beside him. That each woman should be treated with the utmost respect and if anything placed above even rare jewels and pearls.
I have a house full of daughters now and I tell them just as I did mine when she was small. You can do anything you set your mind to do. There are no limitations, that can not be overcome, only in your mind. Be care who you allow to influence you, for wrong influence will bring wrong decisions. You must make a choice in life. Decide if you are to be a victim or a victor and I pray that you will decide to be the victor. I can not make the decision for you nor should you expect your father or anyone else to make it for you.
I have taught this , or tried to teach this to young men for years that I have come into contact with. I hope that I have succeeded more than I have failed in this endevour, but if I have only managed to change one and he will shape one to follow , then someday all this sterotype will disappear. I am glad that in my years I have seen much of it go by the wayside. I have not always agreed with what replaced it but at least there has come some good from the changes.
I would certainly vote for a woman for any office if she were qualified, not qualified as a man or woman , but qualified as an individual. I would expect no more nor no less of a woman elected to office as I would a man and would judge her as I judge him, on what they get accomplished.
I have caught bloody h--- over my view of women for years from men who are threatned by women. I found in talking with them that their fathers were the same way. I am grateful for a father who had no fear of a woman, had no fear of her being better educated than he, and had no fear of her reaching for stars that he could not reach.
Now perhaps you and many others will understand my outlook on many issues from my statements.
Not usual for me to open myself this much to just any and all but I have overcome "fear of man" also in recent years. In other words, I care not what you may think of me, for I know who I am.
