Illegal immigrant doesn't merit breaks
Where's the outrage?
An alleged criminal violates our border at least three times.
Where's the outrage from the U.S. taxpayers whose money was wasted on ineffective border security? Where's the outrage from the immigrants who followed the rules and entered legally?
The alleged criminal gets a good-paying job that could have gone to a citizen or to a legal immigrant. Where's the outrage from the unions? This person allegedly rapes numerous women. Where's the outrage from various women's organizations?
He allegedly lies about his assets and income in order to get free defense. The public defenders rush to handle this case that has the potential for being high profile. Where's the outrage from taxpayers?
He speaks English well enough for a good-paying job but now wants an expensive translator to be provided at no cost to him. Once again, where's the outrage from local taxpayers?
The silence is deafening.

Mr. Hopkins you raise some very valid questions. I wish that I had answers. While I have not been a loud voice in this matter, I have voiced concern in many of the circles in which I circulate. Like myself, others wonder at all of these matters. What infuriates me the most is how this man (Hernandez?) was able to obtain an FHA backed home loan in the amount of $123,000! I do not even qualify for a home loan, much less an automobile loan! I am a legal citizen. My ancestry in this country goes back before the USA was even the USA! How is that for treating one of our own?

George, the American populace have exchanged their principles for cheap yard mowing, cheap day labor, cheap and under the table wages paid to workers in all the low wages jobs.
A microcosm of the economic changes we can expect to see by the next generation of Latino migration can be seen by looking at what has happened in South Florida from 1960 to present. Since the day when the massive influx of Cubans reached South Florida they took all the low wage jobs and worked them hard, sometimes two at a time.
Today the Cubans own banks, hotels, major firms, are a huge presence in government, and run a good portion of the economy down there. If you don't speak Spanish it's very difficult to find a decent job South of West Palm.
NC has seen a 500% increase in the Mexican population in NC in the past 15 years. That rate of growth will create changes for every single person in the state in the next decade.

Because it is not politically correct to make a fuss over such things. It's more PC to hamstring the NSA than it is to protect the borders against law breakers.

George, I agree with you. Really Sad, what is happening in this Country. Do you think maybe the government will pay his house payments if he goes to jail?

Finally an issue we all seem to agree on. Sit down now folks, illegal immigration is an issue in which I think the Bush administration has been totally lax. I think he is getting the message from all sides of the political spectrum hence a few speeches but no action to date.
The guest worker program will not work. No one is going to want to leave in 5 or so years after establishing jobs, homes, and families. Besides, once a baby is born on US soil to illegals or anyone else, that baby is a US citizen.
France & Germany tried the equivalent of a guest worker program back in the 60's to provide workers for the economy. They thought these people would simply leave when the economy slowed down. Didn't work, in fact many of them and their decendants are there today.

This is a monumental day! We now have some concensus and possibly some momentum can be derived from it. Let's all write Howard "YES MAN" Coble and encourage him to buck the President on this one? Can't hurt anything and certainly seems to be a valid concern.
