Owners must answer for dangerous pets
I am sickened and angry each time I read about someone's vicious "pets" attacking a human being. So I say "bravo" to the Virginia jury that recommended sending Deanna Large to jail after her pit bulls killed an elderly woman.
Were I king, here would be the rules. You want to own pit bulls? Fine. A mountain lion? Great. A boa constrictor? All yours. But for legal purposes, we will make no distinction between your owning those animals and you holding a loaded gun. If it goes off, you're going down.

Don:
I am angry also! Further, I do not agree that citizens have the right to own these pets!
My view is that some of these "pets" should be put on an "illegal to own" list! For animals and reptiles and etc. on this list, I think jail time and fines are appropriate! Making someone responsible for attacks by pit bulls or Snake fish do not remove the harm they introduce!
How many innocent citizens running for exercise, walking to school, standing at a school stop, or simply in the yard with their own pet have to be permanently damaged or killed before we recognize the need to remove these unstable animals from legal ownership!
However, I stop short of every accident involving a pet and human being prosecuted as a crime! Pets are a part of our society! Accidents are bound to occur and I do not want to make the owners of these "pets" and farm animals victims of a runaway legal system!

Shippy,
I agree with you! It may be the first time, since you and Wormer seem to have a symbiotic relationship politically.
Pitbulls, no matter what some PETA person may tell you, are not good pets unless you live in an isolated area, near the Alaska Wildlife Refuge, or in the middle of a wilderness area. Why? Because they are one owner animals and always run the possibility of going off on anyone who seems to threaten them, or their owner. Ever wonder why the Pitbull is the dog of choice for drug dealers and drug lords? When was the last time you saw a Jr. Leaguer walking a Pitbull!!
