Turn signals optional

With most of the American automobile companies in financial trouble, the solution for them may be to reduce their manufacturing costs. They should make the turn signal lever part of the option package. That way, only the drivers who plan to use those things have to pay for them. That should save these companies millions.

apparently turn signals have been optional in n.c. for it seems no one uses them......and if some one does use them, nobody actually believes the person intends to turn...witnessed by the fact that only after the car has made a complete turn would they even consider making their move.
now for those who will say i'm "hating on" n.carolinians...really i'm only stating what i observe !!

what's a turn signal?

Up here in the WNC mountains we have an opposite problem. It seems that the cars with those "oranges" on the tags have turn signls that operate all the time. It seems to say as the driver goes down the road, dumb a--, dumb a--, dumb a--, click click , click click. Drive for miles behind one of these wondering just where they intend to turn.
On a good winding twisting mountain road you sometimes hope that they would go ahead and make that turn, right off the edge of the cliff.

mrp, you've hurt my feelings....i am from the "orange" on the tag state ( lol,lol ! )

Well Buz, my friend, I hope that you know when to turn off the blinkers. I also hope that you use them as well. Having lived in G'boro it does seem to be a major problem there , just haven't figured out where all the folks that don't know how to use them come from. Seems like local folk overused them when I was there.

MrP
I think it is all those darn foreigners who dont use their blinkers. You know those from Va. NY, or whereever. And dont forget the reason the locals leave them on so long is WE want to give those behind us that good polite long in advance warning that at some point we may turn.

top 'o the day mrP.,
i drive a '51 chevy so my turn signals are attached to my body (specifically my left arm) - i have it serviced every 3,000 miles and it is currently functioning properly ( there is a slight malfunction on occassion - one finger get stuck in the upright position but i'm working on the fix ! )

I gotta question the turn signal. Why is it anybody's business which way you plan to turn? They ought to be able to see plenty well that you are slowing down or stopping (and if they're riding behind you they should od the same) without a turn signal.

Yellowdog, I want you to think on what you just said.
If you are behind a vehicle and they put on the brake and you are in a double lane situation and decide to move to the left lane, in case the vehicle in front of you turns suddenly or decides to stop before turning to the right, I would want you to ask yourself;

What happens if the dang fool decides to turn left all of a sudden?

Can you hear crunching sheet metal, broken glass. Can you say lawsuit for sure as the world you hit the dumba-- in the rear end.

That Yellowdog is why it is a good idea to use turn signals and why it is my business which way some dang fool is gonna turn.

Mr. P,
Jerry Seinfeld said people in the citrus state should actually get "presciption windshields"!

I love getting behind somebody who has "the eventual left turn syndrome" and just wager with myself when exactly they are going to turn!

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yea, Deac, we use to make bets on how soon the perpetual left turn signaler would turn. I have won more coffee than Starbucks has. My answer was, 90% of the time, NEVER, it's just their way of control.

Buz [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

ok guys,
here's the real deal, those cars sold in florida have non cancelling turn signals, so once they are applied they can never be turned off, so give the fla. driver a break.....at least they used them ...once ...lol !

Mrp,

You're exactly right. I wasn't being serious but I agree 100% with you.

See and all this time I thought this was a global problem. I have personally witnessed this problem in Myrtle Beach NC, Germany, Ireland and even in Australia on 50 miles of long dirt road without a turn in sight.
