Another day's paper, more evidence of bias

Your anti-American, anti-Christian, pro-abortion bias in presenting news stories is disgustingly obvious. The day after the 33rd anniversary of the forced legalization of infanticide by the liberal court, resulting in 40 million babies murdered to date, you print a small photo of opposing protesters on page 1 and bury a tiny story of the large pro-life march on page 5. The next day on page 2, you print a large article describing how "Fidel Castro directed a vast protest march" against the United States while joining Democrats at home in equating President Bush with Hitler.

You also print a puff piece on page 1 pushing a vile anti-Christian movie that mocks Jesus Christ. On page 9, you castigate "radical right" and "far-right" groups in France for serving pork soup to homeless people.

Why don't you describe the Democratic Party as a "radical left" group? The only part of your far-left newspaper worth reading is the letters page, which on that same day exposes you as guilty of destroying the career of Police Chief David Wray while publishing radical-left rants of Rosemary Roberts. It is no wonder far-left monopolistic newspapers like yours are shrinking in circulation all over the country.

Yo! What movie "that mocks Jesus Christ" is he talking about? I haven't heard of such a thing. Just curious...

Agenda driven is the reason why. Whose agenda though?

Glaring example of bias is on the front page news today. Entire story about the taxpayers getting gipped out of a couple of hundred thousand dollars over the sale of some ABC store property in High Point.

Yet the county sells an entire city block in downtown Greensboro based on the buyer's appraisal and that figure is somewhere around $2 million less than was tentativly offered by a reputable developer for the same property.

No front page stories about that.

John, Easy solution to your problem. Don't read the N&R if there is nothing to your liking in it. If it is going to get your bowels in such an uproar, read the HPE. Or watch the news channel of your choice. The N&R is not medicine and you do not have to take it.

This reminds me of the guy who went to McDonalds all the time, then complained about it making him fat. For heavens' sake, put the paper down and take responsibility for your choices.

And to think that Democrats are labelled as whiners.

Funny. Landmark communications, which owns the N&R, publishes a bunch of military pubs as well.

I can't imagine any remotely objective person classifying the News and Record as "far-left." You could debate liberal bias or left leaning I suppose. This guy needs to read alternet.org or z-mag if he wants to see the far left. The News and Record ain't even close.

littlebuddababy [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

There is absolutly nothing wrong with wanting general unbiased news reporting in the N&R. You are correct in stating that one does not "have" to read it if they wish not to. At the same time they have every right to appeal to the N&R that they represent a more broad view of what is happening in this city and this country. If anyone wants to write the Rhino Times (which I bet if they delivered those to homes, the N&R would loose a great deal of money)and knock them for the same kind of bias then I would say "hey, go for it".

I guess the point I am trying to make is that people subscribe to the N&R for many reasons. If they are customers and have chosen to spend money on this publication, then they have every right to complain about it's contents.

littlebuddababy [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Oh, yeah. I agree, this paper does seem to have it's own agenda, but if I quit reading it, how would I get to read all of the great LTE's? The rights and the lefts, lol.

Thomas [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Mr. Angell,

I understand your frustration, as I cancelled my subscription to this left-leaning, anti-Bush paper months ago. I grew weary of the daily anti-war/Bush-bashing photos and articles (which were usually one-sided, large in print and appeared multiple times per edition, as if they were pushing an agenda). For example, they had the infamous Abu-Grahib photos with Lyndie England on the front page, but had the photo of the ambushed/murdered/dismembered bodies of the American contractors killed in Fallujah in 2004 on the back page (page 14) with a small photo. I contacted editor John Robinson about this...his response: "you are being a bit sensative about our coverage". Guess I was too sensative to continue my subscription too, so I cancelled. Thank God (and Al Gore) for the internet.

Just yesterday somebody complained about personal attacks and insults to follow by republicans because a democrat stated his mind. Well, we aren't exactly setting a good example for the repubs here today are we?

News should be unbiased as much as possible. We have editorial pages for one-sided opinions.

Thomas [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Even though I despise media bias, I am a strong proponent of freedom of the press, so the N&R has a right to print whatever they chose. But the only solution I see to this problem, is for another newpaper to serve the Greensboro area with home delivery....in other words, COMPETITION. I do not consider the Rhino Times as such, but this is not an uncommon dilema, as many cities today are served by one major newspaper only. But then again, competition may not help, as Greensboro is increasing becoming a more liberal city (Kerry beat Bush by 5000 votes in GSO in 11/04, free "clean needles" for drug addicts are available at the health department at taxpayers' expense, pro-gay billboards popping up on Wendover Ave. "welcoming gays to the community"). Anyway, vote with your wallet, if need be.

Mr. Angell,

Maybe you should start reading the Rhino Times. I think you'll find the kind of news you're looking for.

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

You are right, Mark. The Rhino is full of far right thinking. Seems this is what the letter-writer is wanting.

mark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Do they still have their Clinton Watch section? I mean, after all, they would be letting their readers down if they didn't bash Clinton 6 years after he left office.

DemonDeacon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Good point! The Rhino is exactly what this LTE writer needs.
Hopefully, he can get an IV of Rush, FOXNews, and some Neocon and Dan to supplement him with his right wing deficiency!

Sue [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I misplaced my invite -- when is the next meeting of the anti-everything-good bias committee at the N&R? Are you serving lunch?

DemonDeacon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

NCRants,
I personally enjoy the N&R. I do not consider it "LIB-RUL", but rather the only game in town. Have to laugh at those who stop their subscriptions, but read it online.....they say they did it because they are fed up with it being so leftist, when the real reason is, they are just part of the "want something for nothing crowd" that they demonize when the shoe is on the other foot.
You know, the ones who want sidewalks on their streets, street lights, police protection, water, sewer, schools, parks and fire protection, but they don't want to be taxed for those things. They complain about not having prayer in schools, but would just die if a turbaned fellow offered up a prayer for their children.

It's always the same attitude---My way or the highway! Anyone who disagrees with my opinions is a liberal Bush Hater! Until that attitude subsides, we "disagreeables" are nothing but leftist, liberal Bush Haters who are out to ruin america. If it weren't so sad, it would be laughable!

You think this guy is a fanatic. Compare him to the muslim reaction over the prophet muhammad cartoons. Just think what would happen if Christians used those tactics every time someone misrepresented or made fun of Jesus or God in a cartoon.

First, half of you would probably be beheaded or kidnapped.

Is it me or is it kind of amusing that France fired their managing editor because he published those cartoons. How many people in the US or other countries have been fired lately because they printed a cartoon or something disrespectful about Christ. They take his name in vein on television almost every night. Just think what the Muslim response would be if you stuck an 'h-effin' in the middle of their prophet's name.

mr. angell,
sorry bud, but i have to disagree with you. if you'll notice at the beginning of every article is its source, be it AP,UPI,CNN, whatever.
the editors at the gnr have quite oftenly stood on both sides of the aisle. on the editorial page you'll find "our opinion".i simply suggest you read that part of the paper if you want to know where the gnr stands. have a great day.

Bobby [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I'm shocked to think that anyone doesn't know that the N&R is a left leaning paper. Notice I didn't say newspaper. It gave that up the minute it took a side. True newspapers print truths and facts the way they are, not as they want them to be.

True newspapers never hide the truth or refuse to print stories because it might not go along with the way they want it to.

A true newspaper finds fault with All political parties when they are at fault. You can't put one on the front page, while you bury in the back sections the other party.

When you do that, you quit being a newspaper and become a propaganda tool for the party you are supporting.

When that happens, you are NOT a member of the FREE PRESS, because you are no longer free, you are now a propaganda rag, nothing more, nothing less.

When you have to resort to those tactics, you have proven that your side is wrong and without honor. You are just another peice of trash with no substance or truth.

That choice is yours and yours alone to make. You may try to hide it, but the truth always has away of coming out.

Your truth has came out a long time ago. Only liberals believe you. An that is your doing, and NO BODY else is. So if a large portion of your readers don't trust or believe you, this is what you've caused.

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Bobby, I take my previous statement back.

You are the biggest whiner here.

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

As an afterthought, let me add:

And by that, Bobby, I mean that you should vote with your wallet- you should boycott that dang LIEburul media, as you're only lining their pockets with every paper you buy.

Don't buy the paper? Every click on this site is a click, and ad value is determined by clicks... So every time you come here, you're helping those gosh darn librul scum make money.

So, the more you whine, the more money it makes for those whom you oppose.

And I find that funny.

littlebuddababy [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Bobby [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Well there an old saying "KEEP YOU FRIENDS CLOSE AND YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER".

As far a whinning goes, you on the left have nothing but WHINNING. You blame everything on the right and Bush, but never offer solutions. You whin and cry about everything you can't control.

Here's a answer to your problem, WIN ELECTIONS.

Come up with solution to the problems that face the American people. Acting like spoiled brats won't get it done.

Right now, your sides ambition is to win the house so you can Impeach Bush. Not try to solve the problem, You need to get your priorities in order. And a cold shower, maybe that will calm you down some.

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"You whin and cry about everything you can't control."

See, that's the thing- your ilk whines while they DO control things, in this case, the House, Senate, and the Presidency. (Some would argue that the Supreme Court recently took a shift to the hard right too, but I believe it's still too early to tell about that.)

And that's funny. Also, if you'll kindly check the record, I believe you'll find yourself proven wrong in terms of "the enemy" (go team!! whoo!!) not suggesting solutions. That's been done plenty of times. The reason you don't hear about it is the Dems do not control the House or Senate, the LIEburul media doesn't want you to know.

And, for the record, I was a Libertarian, have been for 15 years. It's a shame we're off the ballot now.

Bubba [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"And, for the record, I was a Libertarian, have been for 15 years. It's a shame we're off the ballot now."

What's really a shame is how the Libertarian Party apparatus, and the people that are nominated to run for office keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Why? Who can really argue with most of the points in the Libertarian platform?

Their sprit is willing, but ther flesh is weak.......

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"What's really a shame is how the Libertarian Party apparatus, and the people that are nominated to run for office keep shooting themselves in the foot."

Indeed. Most of their candidates come across as batsh!t crazy, which is pretty sad because, like you said, most of their positions are common-sense-keep-yer-gubbermint-outta-my-beeswax ideas, which are pretty much universally appealing, but they always seem to run the guy that comes across as a loon.

I do, however, think that, as Bush and Co's spending continues to spiral, fiscal conservatives that are not in bed with the religious right (the few that remain, anyway) will come to embrace the Libertarian party and affect some change that's been needed for a long time.

Back to the LTE,
The News & Fishwrap never covered the right to lifers who went out into the neighborhoods of physicians who performed abortions. These protestors, or really they should be call "terrorists" because they carried signs trying to get neighbors to condemn neighbors. My favorite one was when Calvin Hinshaw, Republican County Commissioner, was carrying a sign saying "Dr. ______, God knows what you are doing".
It was only a few weeks later, Mr. Morality, Commissioner Hinshaw was sent off for sodomizing his 26 year old son!
Folks, you can't make that stuff up. If you've lived here for a while, you'll remember Republican Chairman, Steve Arnold, pursing his lips and saying, Today Mr. Hinshaw admitted to abhorrent behavior. Whew! Abhorrent behavior all right.
So that's today's "Holier than thou" moment. Of course, only a few years passed before we got Robert Moores--the wigged out commissioner!
