Attractive victims receive more attention
I am going to try to put this in words that won't upset someone. My intentions are meant to be respectful and yet objective.
There have been a few stories that have been given much attention over the years regarding horrific deaths and missing people. All these people deserve justice and closure.
What I don't seem to understand is why these few stories make the news as opposed to the murders and missing children in our country every day. Doesn't it seem that if you are young and beautiful, then you are newsworthy?
To me it is so obvious. And very disturbing. Anyone tragically murdered or who goes missing deserves the same attention as these others. When the victim is young and beautiful, the story instantly becomes news. Why do we look for drama in others' tragedy, especially if they appeal to the eye? What about the beautiful children out there lost? Give them the time and coverage they deserve.

Back when the "bigger Missins Mommy" story was all over the news, I wondered why a young local woman who was also pregnant and was also missing wasn't getting the press that Lacey Peterson was getting. I wondered what made one more interesting or deserving of the countries attention. I do see other variences as well. For instance, the latest murder of a mother and her baby, which certainly isn't unique, shows that looks aren't everything. Now I know this is all relative, but I don't see anything attractive about the mother, (please God rest rest her soul I mean no disrespect) but looks aren't in play here in my humble opinion.

SO hopefully this will show that sometimes, the sheer interest of the crime is what leads to the public interest that a crime gets.

I agree with the above response. Also, and I don't like it, It's not only the attractive who get the worm and if you are also tall, you get a bigger worm. Sad but true.

It boils down to what the media feels will sell papers or is news worthy.
We the people really dont have a say in what the media reports on.

It is not just the media choosing the most photogenic, it is simply a fact of human nature and always has been that the more attractive a person is the more they receive in the way of preferences. It has to do with the human animals instinctive choice of the fittest to ensure the survival of the species. It sucks and we as humans should be able to rise above it and value people for their hearts, deeds and needs, but we never do.
