Bush speech ignores his broken promises

In the Jan. 31 national address, President Bush stated emphatically that the United States needed to work on alternatives to Middle East oil. Holy Deja Vu, Batman.

Wasn't this the same W that promised to fund hydrogen cell technologies years ago, then de-funded the program only to give billions to already over-moneyed oil companies?

Could it be that the audience's attention deficit is only superseded by our soaring budget deficit?

Later in his speech, he proclaimed secret wiretaps are necessary to protect us.

The truth is that under the FISA laws, these wiretaps are legal only with a warrant, and in an emergency a warrant can be waived for 72 hours.

After Sept. 11, the FISA court was streamlined for national security purposes. The National Security Agency, which oversees these wiretaps, has given more than 2,000 leads to the CIA for investigation in recent years, according to CIA officials, and not one citizen investigated had any connection to terrorism. All were private citizens.

So, don't hold your breath waiting for America to start "green" technologies to compete with the rest of the world. But hold your thoughts while talking on the phone. Welcome to Bush's fascist-democracy.

I can't wait to see what the Dumb-ya supporters have to say about this LTE. Let the games begin!!

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Joe, let me start for you: The LTE writer is an unpatriotic Bush basher. Bill Clinton was scum. Let's kill the terrorists in another country to keep them off our soil. I work and make good money, so who cares if the poor can't buy gas or heat their homes, it is their own fault for being poor.

I will let neocon and Dan finish.

Gosh, Michael, Joe and Carol. You've converted us at last! None of us will EVER vote for George W. Bush for President AGAIN!

Satisfied?

Bubba [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Also, has everyone noticed how Michael did not call the President a Nazi? Instead, it's "Welcome to Bush's fascist-democracy."

That's the best we can expect from those who are a part of the problem, and are in no way part of the solution.

Believe I read almost the same letter in the local paper today. This writer seemed to be a bit more biting in her wording at the end but the middle part was all the same. Must have been something fairly new on one of the farleft websites.

I am sure that if I look in some other of the local papers I will find another letter with the identical wording in part or most of it.

If you can't be original on your criticizm , don't bother.

As I said in a post a day or so ago , this is exactly what is wrong with this country and that includes the congress. No one would have given a thought to wiretaps , just as they had not in the past if such an issue had not been made of it by those who have no other agenda to support that will fly with the American people. If all those wasting time on this situation would spend as much time on pushing alternative energy, you can bet your sweet something would be accomplished.
Will it happen? Not a chance because it is more "important" to make the other side look bad than it is to do something constructive.
The whole dang bunch makes me want to puke. And I don't care if they are riding an elephant or donkey. It's time to deal with some real issues rather than something that has gone on for years and will continue to go on.

Actually, Bubba - I have offered - both here and direct to Bush, Dole, Burr and Foxx - solutions to several of these [and other] problems.

Have you? Maybe you don't see any problems?

"welcome to Bush's fascist democracy"

Is this the same fascist democracy where President Carter used similar wiretaps? (source: Washington Post)

Is this the same fascist democracy where President Clinton used the NSA to eavesdrop on phone calls under "Project Echelon"? (source: CBS, "60 Minutes"

Is this the same fascist democracy where JFK used wiretaps against Martin Luther King and other civil rights leaders?

But that was okay, since they were DemocRATS, eh?

If this is such a bad place, why are you liberals still living in the U.S? I thought you were all moving to more "progressive, open-minded" nations if Bush were re-elected in 2004. If you need a free ride to PTI, let me know....I might even buy your plane ticket (one-way, only, though).

The most glaring flip flop I saw was also the saddest: In his State of the Union speech the other night, the President went on about our addiction to foreign oil- a stand I was proud to see him make.

I thought to myself- all right! he DOES see that it's a problem- let's work together and get something done...

Boy, I was surprised when his lackeys retreated from his stated position THE VERY NEXT DAY. Well, maybe not THAT surprised, but let down nonetheless.

All I want to know is, Why was a group of "VEGETARIANS" being wiretapped??? Evidently, Bush thought being a "VEGAN" was some political organization. The incompetence is so overwhelming....God save the United States Of America from this MORON!

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Has anyone actually taken the time to think that this President does not tap anyone's phones. He can give approval for taps in general, it is up to the agency doing the tapping to decide what and who and when the tap will occur and for how long, and what the outcome will be. To continue or to discontinue. That is the norm for such things as this. So to say Bush thought VEGAN was a political orgainization is pure bull crap. Get real folks. You are smart enough to know the difference. You sound like a bunch of kids on the playground when a couple start name calling and making fun of some other kid the whole dang bunch jumps in. We had a name for that when I was growing up, but it is no longer politically correct to use it. I will let you use you imagination. Those of you old enough will know what I mean.

I've given that considerable thought, mrproduce, and have no problem with that.

When the President goes around the FISA court established for purposes such as these, I have a problem, in that it appears the President is breaking the law.

I don't think the President should break the law.

True or false: "When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal."

DemonDeacon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Denzien,
Your last quote from Bush as a TRUE/FALSE question was a clincher. BTW, a group of vegetarians WAS tapped, as they were thought to be subversive and against the war.
First it was a Quaker Meeting House, now it's a group of non-meat eaters!! Supporting this President is, as Mr. P would say, "pure bull crap"!

DemonDeacon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Mr. P,
I do not think this President actually does much more than scratch his own rectal area---and only then, when Cheney tells him he can. But he has created an environment that is open to do what it wants to do with the President giving cover.

You did not read any of the links I posted, did you Denizen? Perhaps you just could not understand the subject matter.

Then to top it off you post links from WaPo, The Nation, the New York Slimes.....

LOL! No agenda in THOSE publications is there?

Hugh,
If you'd ever turn off Rush, Hannity, and FOXNews, you'd find out about "VEGAN-GATE". Are you also one of those who says the holocaust didn't happen?

mrproduce [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yea, Deac, that Dave Barry is a joke. Seems as if he never grew up. Immature describes him perfectly.

Rove must have scrubbed the web of any references to it.

DemonDeacon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Below is the headline for you to reference on Vegans being surveilled by FBI and NSA. It is from the New York Times, not the Washington Times, so you will probably disregard it. Hugh, you need to read more things other than National Enquirer oops I mean National Review! If you'd turn off Rush, and turn on a two sided show, you might expand your world view a bit.

Hugh,
Do you ever think beyond what you read in your John Birch Newsletter? Do you believe Kennedy was shot by the mob? Do you believe the holocaust never happened? Do you think Nixon did what everyone else was doing but just got caught? Is lying under oath about a knob shine equivalent to usurping the United States Constitution? Do you think all poor people just choose to be that way? Do you ever think how life would be for you if you were another race?
Since your reading is limited, I wanted to present these questions to you, for introspection.

Think for yourself!

hugh [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Deac, put your money where you mouth is. Vegan-Gate? The term doesn't exist on the internet.

Your other rhetoric is nonsense.

And here is another for you!

So Hugh, what does it take to prove to you that your LORD & SAVIOR has fueled the fire of spying domestically on VEGANs!

Osama? Sure.

A non meat eater? What exactly am I supposed to be afraid of here?

Am I in danger of a salad of mass destruction?

Denzien [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"You did not read any of the links I posted, did you Denizen? "

I do not read material that comes from notorious right wing (and left-wing, for that matter) sources.

It's funny, really- when the facts are stacked against you, claim bias, ignore anything asked of you and....

Whine.

Typical.

Oh Hugh...?? Where did you go?
Are you cranking out your excuses for your Lord and Savior George Bush??
