Movie audience hears Willie Nelson himself

Hank Powell's misguided assertion that Willie Nelson ("In Willie's own words," Feb. 9), was foreshadowing the subject matter of "Brokeback Mountain" in his popular song "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys," is quite amusing.

If Powell had actually seen the most honored film of the year, which he states he has no intention of doing, he would know that it's good ol' Willie's sweet voice that we hear singing "He was a Friend of Mine" as the credits roll.

yawn.

Hank Powell doesn't approve of homosexuality or movies that have homosexuals as their central characters. Hank never stated any knowledge of Willie Nelson's feelings on the subject. It sounded like he was really just trying to use humor in his letter.

Addison obviously doesn't share Hanks' sentiments and appears to have no problem going to see movies where the central characters are homosexuals and it is the basis of the movie.

Each seems to want to prove the other wrong but it is impossible. It is truly a matter of beliefs, opinions, and morals. And neither is likely to change the other's mind.

And people's beliefs and feelings are what rule the univerise. Therefore, when speaking, one should take into account the beliefs and feelings of others.

Harsh words hurt deep and their damage is felt for a lifetime. While statements may be retracted and apologies given, the damage is done.

This is like in a trial when a statement is made and then ordered "striken from the record." How ridiculous is that, the jury has already heard it!

The same goes in general society, speak lightly.

rekkin willies a fag and hank ain't.

now how stupid does that sound? just as stupid as calling somebody a phobe. people who don't believe in gay rights should not be demonized with terms such as phobe. And people who are gay should not be demonized with terms such as fag. Name-calling hurts, as Darryl said, and there is no place for it among adults.
