Katrina also created unseen destruction

I am aware that things are hard for the people from the New Orleans area hit from Hurricane Katrina. But I didn't realize the extent. I work at a pet store in Greensboro, and we have gotten a new manager from New Orleans. He worked for our company there and said 75 percent of the management was displaced.

He and his wife made a good living. They had a house, cars. The hurricane took away that. One car was taken into the Gulf and insurance refused to pay, saying he couldn't prove what happened and didn't have adequate coverage.

This man and his wife had to file bankruptcy. Now their credit is destroyed. They cannot even rent an adequate place. This is shameful.

This is just one. I'm sure there are many more.

Virginia,
You are so right on the money! We have no idea what those folks are going through right now. The best scenario is not a good one by any means. Proving a car was lost in a hurricane to an insurance company reminds me of the soldiers who were checking out of the service and the army wanted to charge them for a tear in a sleeping bag! Both had been through hell once, but now had to go through it again!

When you read and hear from volunteers who are helping the Gulf Coast victims, you realize that even though this is not a big news story at this time, many Americans are displaced and suffering simply because they lived in the wrong place at the wrong time. There but for the grace of God go we. The help from churches and college students is wonderful, but we all need to find ways to help.

now this is a crying shame. Insurance companies point blank dismissing any claims in Mississippi out right. What a load of crap. And people wonder why it is taking so long to rebuild. It is hard enough to help the (pardon me, but they are ding dongs) who didn't have insurance with out the taxpayers getting stuck with the bill for the ones who did.

Question: We require people who own cars to at least carry a minimum of coverage. Don't you think that the Katrina victims should be required to carry it after the government builds a new house for them?
