Wish Grier well and send him on his way
If I were operating a multimillion-dollar company and my top executive threatened to quit and join another firm; and if I could have my pick of a dozen executives that could do as well as the one I currently am employing; and if my pick of these candidates would be pleased with the opportunity to replace my current executive at the present level of compensation; and, most especially, if my top executive recently had made decisions that alienated a large number of "customers," I would look him in the eye, shake his hand, and wish him well in his new endeavors.
With the principle established above, I would shake Dr. Grier's hand and wish him well.
The only reason I would consider "chasing after him" with increased compensation is if I felt incompetent in operating the business in the short term, or if I felt unqualified in choosing a successor.

Uhhhhmmmmm......I thought that we all agreed to write nothing but glowing endorsements of Grier so that Charlotte would take him. Don't you think people down there can use the internet and read?

Ed, front page news this afternoon, Grier withdrew his Mecklenburg application.
Looks like we're stuck with him. No telling what the school board offered him to stay here.

Hugh, definition: Withdrew - I went to Charlotte and they told me I wouldn't get the job.

Carol is correct. Grier was only there because they had to have three candidates to present. He was never a serious candidate. It was reported that 8 of 9 on a parents' panel favored Gorman. No one favored Grier. I've been told by residents there that Grier is well-known, and if he got the job, they would be shocked.
The good doctor applied for this job (regardless of his pleas that he was recruited)so that he could leverage more money out of the GCS school board, and from what I hear he was successful in that. He never had any intention of leaving and knew that he wasn't a serious candidate, but he will profit from it.
It looks as though the carnage being inflicted by Terry Grier and the school board will continue unabated. We have nothing to lose but our precious financial assets and our childrens' educational futures.

People, at this point there is nothing left to lose. What will eventually get results is protest. Remember the 1960s and 1970s? This will have to happen at EVERY School Board meeting, EVERY County Commissioners meeting and ANY other meeting that has consequences that directly affect the taxpaying citizen of Guilford County!
Until enough of the people make themselves present, then it will not happen. Will anyone join me?
Shalom

Call me Darryl. I'll go. I have sent more e-mails to the board this week and have asked friends to do so also. Got a "Thank you for your input" from Mr. Quick, no other replies.

Carol Dunn & ORR -
I would gladly come withst thou, carry a picket sign, and chant loudly, but alas I need that paycheck for babysitting our future while they continue to manipulate the system and take advantage of the real educators who have been emasculated by the Red Tape, no longer able to do their jobs. The most we can all hope for is a quick and sudden death when we are aged, for if we are depending on these latest products of the GCS system to take care of ANYTHING when they are adults, we are fools. Their self esteem and sense of self expression is at an all time high, but the majority of them can't read, can't write, can't add...but thanks to all these "test scores," someone, somewhere is convinced our children are achieving the required academic standards (and beyond! ha!). Hard to believe that is happening when most of us are barely able to teach 30 minutes out of every class period for having to manage the incorrigibles.
Thanks for the rant. I'm ready to auction my kidney on Ebay to pay for private school - I can't imagine sending my child to "learn" where I work every day.
Terry Grier and the Flea Circus need to go. FWIW, I think Dudley's got it going on. Get uniforms in all the GCS schools and let the schools return to community entities - take 'em back! How many of those kids at Dudley thought twice about their behavior while under the watchful eye of those who had gone before them.....
Woops...off on another rant.....we've all been Grier-ended.... :(

JEC, sounds like you are a teacher in GCS. I understand your need to remain silent. When I worked, many refused to speak out for fear of being transferred across the county. So while we have freedom of speech, ha ha, you had better not use it at this time.
I will be your mouthpiece. Let me know what you want said, and I will gladly speak out, write letters, etc. Make a list, and I will do what I can. You can contact me at dunnc333@hotmail.com.
I have only been retired for a year and a half, so I still have the dreams where you have an out of control class. Have those??? My last two years of teaching, I lived the nightmare. Only one class each year, but that was enough to finish me off.
You and all teachers are in my thoughts and prayers.

Is the school board a paying gig? I could use a part time job and I certainly couldn't do any worse than these fools....

Sure is, Bob. You get travel expenses and get to go to nice places for retreats. Don't know the salary. However, I doubt it is worth it, not to me anyway. If you run and win, will you bus for diversity? If not, you got my vote.
