Either way, Robinson needs his eyes examined
When I received a campaign mailer from Vernon Robinson recently, I knew what to expect. You see, I had been an interested observer of his runoff campaign against Virginia Foxx in the 5th District Republican primary two years ago. One of his ads had Virginia Foxx "morphing" into Hillary Clinton and stating that they were just the same.
To make such a claim, a person would have to be either hopelessly ignorant or totally dishonest. I think that dishonesty is the more likely explanation; therefore, I had no interest in what he might have to say about his current opponent ... it was sure to be more of his lies.
But, if we want to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he really believed that 2004 ad, do we want a congressman who is so stupid (or so far to the right) that he can't see the difference between Virginia Foxx and Hillary Clinton?

Bert, for someone who "had no interest in what he might have to say" why waste your time writing a lte? Sounds like you had plenty of interest.

Robinson is a fire breathing right wing conservative, not a RINO. He'll get my vote in Nov.

Bert,
If you don't like the guy, don't vote for him. I don't think he will win anyway. He offends a lot of people with his ideas and doesn't seem to care about it. Folks like that generally don't do good in politics. That's why Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot, Howard Dean and others never got elected. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, but it's true.

For all the folks who have written in this forum about how Dems are just anti-Bush or Anti-republican, now is your chance for a conscience check. I've read Robinson's web site, and he's as close to a raving lunatic as I've seen run for office since David Duke. If you decide to vote for him, you really need to ask yourself what you are "for" and what you are "against". For all the moral superiority I've seen claimed since the 2000 and 2004 elections, I should expect Robinson to get only votes from his immediate family.

Howie G,
I agree that David Duke was just a fruit-loop and dangerous. Coincidentally, I just saw an old interview where Katie Couric grilled him for his comments about Jews. It was fun watching him sqirm.
I don't know that I'd put Vernon Robinson in that same category but he does seem to run some pretty nasty campaigns. When election time comes, I will look closely at Robinson and who he is running against. I'll try to pick which one I think will do a better job overall for us. Does anyone know who his opponent will be?

I think his opponent will be ultra libersl Brad Miller. Altough I'm not 100% on this.

Neocon is right that the opponent is Brad Miller (though I don't know that he's ultra-liberal). He is the incumbent.
As for Robinson, actually the Duke comparison may have been harsh, but I really think Robinson has a screw loose. Or maybe he's trying to get people stirred up as motivation, but he runs a really strong fear-based campaign. His web site for this campaign seems toned down quite a bit from the one he had when he ran in the other district in 2004, but you can see many of the same themes. Real wacko in my humble opinion.

What's really interesting is that if you go to the Thinking Out Loud blog, there is a link to a News&Observer article that compares Robinsons' campaign rhetoric against Brad Miller with the truth.
It is definitely worth reading.
What is really surprising is that the article basically confirms that much of what Robinson says about Miller is actually true. Granted, there is some over-dramatization in Robinson's word choice and what I'd call embellishment, but most of it is true. If Robinson would simply tell the truth instead of trying to sensationalize the truth I think he'd probably do much better in the election.
I'm surprised that Allen Johnson would include this link on his blog because I've always thought he really didn't like Robinson.
Anyway, worth a read if you get a chance.

And Howie G, I agree with your assessment that Robinson appears to have a loose screw.

Obviously, the radical left feels very threatened by Vernon Robinson.
And they probably should.
Robinson is an exciting "no nonsense" candidate who opposes just about everything they hold near and dear. He's for secure borders, a strong national defense, defending traditional marriage, equal rights for all with no special privledges, cutting taxes, and restricting the national genocide of abortion on demand.
Then, to add insult to injury, he also happens to be brilliant, black, and was a graduate of the Air Force Academy and a former Missle Combat Crew Commander/Intelligence Officer.
So, it is only natural that the radical left will slander him every chance they get.
Which is why he will get my vote.
Regards,
Marty
