Column misled readers about Episcopal election
I find it disheartening that Cal Thomas (June 24) chose to turn the Episcopal Church's election of Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori into rhetorical debate about the church's stance on homosexuality. His implication that the loving ministry of Christianity should be reserved for those "deemed worthy" is appalling.
That the Episcopal Church can debate controversial issues with bravery actually demonstrates the health of the denomination. Yes, we had a heated and painful debate about the "gay bishop" issue, from which we learned to understand those with many different perspectives on the issue.
Most of us emerged from that debate with a deeper level of love and respect for our fellow believers.
Jefferts Schori was elected presiding bishop because of her excellent work leading a very diverse Nevada diocese.
Under her leadership, the Episcopal Church has grown in Las Vegas. She has also made sure the many small-town — and largely conservative — parishes in Nevada have received adequate support from the diocese.
I have traveled through these towns, and have found genuine respect for her work throughout the state.
Please publish a well-balanced article on her accomplishments. Misleading columns like Thomas' have no place in a credible publication.

I did not read Thomas' article. That is because I DO NOT read his articles WHATSOEVER. I sought to stay informed on what was happening at the Episcopal annual meeting. I thought that it was a refreshing move to elect the woman that was, Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori. From all that I read, she was well qualified to be elected into the position.
It would seem to me, from what I have discerned, is that others would seem to relegate her qualified and quantified election as second nature to the issue of homosexuality within the Episcopal denomination. Unless Thomas is Episcopalian, maybe he should be more centrist in writing about that group!

John,
Great points. Cal Thomas is humor for the thinking person. Most of what he says is so far in the past that one thinks they're reading a newspaper from 1901. Not sure that Cal knows women can vote and black people are free, but it doesn't really matter, as he has those who think he is a renaissance man. (LOL!)
While he may couch his debate in biblical terms, what I love is his hair. He doesn't just have a "comb over". He has THE comb over! A little moustache trim and he would make a great Hitler for some local production of "The Producers". Irony is, if he did trim the "stache" it would go right along with some of his views, which border on totatlitarianism.
Sorry I got so caught up on Cal....he makes me laugh!
As to the Episcopalians, I salute them and their dialogue on many fronts. Their willingness to confront the tough issues in a respectful manner is what separates them from the neanderthals of the SBC. Sorry for the barb there--but you see, Cal is a huge supporter of the Baptists when they debate issues that are a throwback to a simpler time.

John,
Any relation to James?

YD,
This "Dobson" seems to be traveling on a road toward spiritual enlightenment. "James" Dobson has boxed himself in with his own absolutes and cannot find his way out! This Dobson speaks a conciliatory message while "James Dobson" speaks of an angry God ready to kick ass for the GOP!
I actually like this John Dobson fellow. By not claiming all the answers, he reflects the God of the New Testament.
