« Federal government outlives its usefulness | Main | Lebanon lets terrorists operate in its territory »

Lebanon's complacency meant tough response

Why is Lebanon so shocked at what's happening to them now? When one lets a vicious, dangerous snake (Hezbollah) to come into the house (Lebanon), you can expect innocent people to be bitten (killed).
For years, Lebanon has allowed Hezbollah to live and amass weapons there. What did Lebanon think Hezbollah was going to do with those weapons?

Why does it seem that the world expects the USA to come in and take care of whatever problem exists? We (USA) would do far better to quit wasting our money propping up the useless United Nations and spend it on keeping our own country safe.

This whole terrorist situation only underscores why we need improved border security here so the terrorists will not be slipping into our country. We already have some of them here and I'm sure they have evil plans for us.

America needs to learn from what is happening in the Middle East.

Can anyone here tie for me a Square Knot around the connection between walking across the desert for days to slipping across the border looking for an honest day's work and walking across the desert for days carrying WMD's to slip across the border looking to take out those Infidels?

I sense it's red herring, but am mildly open to reconsideration. Note I'm not talking about driving a truck load through a check-point, but more opposing "The Wall", which as I recall was proven to be a major failure between East and West Belin.

Just as is the case in the War on Terror, some of us are bound and determined that the USA NOT learn the difficult lessons that the real world has taught us.

Those people prefer to live in their alternate reality that fits in well with their political, social, and economic agendas.

Fortunately, there are others, such as Ms. Lambeth, who have the foresight, courage, and common good sense to make sure that those in denial of 21st century geopolitical realities don't get their destructive way.

JDR, if a mexican can walk across a desert and across our border, so can a terrorist. We need to tighten our border security to prevent terrorist from gaining easy access to this county. Keeping out illegal aliens is just a side benefit.

And no, we're not going to be able to stop the bloodshed in the middle east. It's been going on for thousands of years and the more we meddle, the more we're hated. We've got to drop our jingoistic attitude that we have the knowledge and the power to make things right. I say, get out of there and let them kill each other, not us.

... but why would he? Terrorist are well funded from all the money we're giving them for oil.

"Keeping out illegal aliens is just a side benefit." Yea - that's why it's such a hot button, Phillipa? This has nothing to do with "Doing Jobs American's won't do ... "? You'd better take this up with the Prez', 'cause you two are not on the sawe page.

James,
The President is only on the same page for roughly 31% of the people in this country. That can be boiled down to a hard core 28% which consists mainly of party operatives, religious conservatives and fringe nutcakes. If the religious right would embrace the teachings of Jesus rather than cherry pick the bible to declare war on homosexuals, then the number would drop even further. Don't think the party operatives will budge, and the "nutcakes" are contained within the shared memberships of the NRA and the NRL.

No, the president and I are not on the same page. Never will be. The president said on his radio address today what basically amounted to "OK, I've done all I've promised to do, I'm not going to do anymore." I wish he'd say the same thing about Iraq!

You can't imagine a terrorist walking across a desert to get into this country, JDR? Nobody could imagine that a terrorist would fly a plane into the WTC, either.

Partly out of respect for my fellow bloggers and partly from a natural disinclination to spend my entire day ranting about the perpetual violence in the middle east and any possible correlation that can be inferred from poor domestic border security, I'm going to let this one pass for today.

The two are both multifaceted and extremely complicated issues, so, having said that, I'm going to settle for just reading the comments posted by you other fine people.

So far, I've seen quite a few good points made.

Keep it up guys and gals :).
