N.C. should support research on stem cells
On Oct. 18 in Raleigh, Rep. Earl Jones of Guilford County convened the third meeting of the N.C. House Select Committee on Stem Cell Research. Rep. Jones is chairman of this important study group, which will make a recommendation to the 2007 General Assembly.
This issue has great potential for all citizens, our internationally recognized research institutions and our economy. Rep. Jones and the committee were commended by Parkinson's Action Network and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International speakers.
H.R. 810 was passed by the U.S. House in 2005 and by the U.S. Senate in July of this year. President George Bush vetoed this legislation to relax restrictions on development of embryonic stem-cell lines using federal funding.
Broad public opinion validated by reputable polling organizations, votes in the U.S. House and Senate, and research experts tell us the American public does support embryonic stem-cell research and adult stem-cell research.
Advocacy groups and victims of Parkinson's, diabetes, Alzheimer's, MS, ALS, spinal cord injury, cancer and many other diseases and disabilities realize therapies will not come quickly. But caring families and the community urge legislators to listen, learn and act on legislation to advance North Carolina toward this promising medical frontier.

"Broad public opinion validated by reputable polling organizations ... tell us the American public does support embryonic stem-cell research and adult stem-cell research."
... then vote the bastards out.
Our Stay The Course Decider has recently become "serious" about Darfur, having heard a "grim report about the human condition".
My guess is, like Darfur, like Iraq, eventually folks will wake up and smell the burning toast.
My hope and prayer is that on November 7th lots of olfactory aware folks will vote the bastards out.

I'm sorry, but you lost me at "Rep. Earl Jones"...

JDR, as a 38-year veteran insulin-dependent diabetic, I agree with you regarding November 7!
While the research will not be quick, think of where we could be had this research been better funded several years ago!
Anyone who has or knows someone who has a chronic debilitating illness should be irate at this fiasco. Hold the elected officials accountable for the thoughtlessness of not seeking to override the Presidential Veto!

Couldn't believe the Republican response to the Michael J. Fox ad----they had a pro football player and some others who are not celebs saying, "The cures offered by stem cell research won't be around for at least 10 or fifteen years" Duh! Roosevelt had polio, the March of Dimes was founded and it took another 10-15 years for a preventative serum. Those opposing stem cell research have little to offer in the way of "reasoning" for their position. Oh, and I love the ones who claim the cells are babies when it comes to stem cell research, but have no problem with them being thrown out. What a bunch of hypocrites.
Vote out Howard Coble first! He's a Bush lapdog in the worst way---I wrote him months ago about something and miraculously, I received a response TODAY! Wow! a week before the election. What a hack.

It's only Thursday and there is another "outing" of a right wing closet homosexual! My how they seem to be coming out everywhere. But it is so rewarding to see the EXTREME hypocrites being spotlighted right before our eyes!
