All are God's children, regardless of sexuality

In response to letters from Cris Elkins ("Prejudice toward gays cruel, insulting to God," Nov. 21), Stephen Wessell ("Equality in God's eyes doesn't create virtue," Nov. 10) and Gary Marschall ("Billboard about gays doesn't tell whole story," Nov. 8), I simply say that we are all God's children. Period, end of report.

It matters not what religion you are, what political party you belong to, or what you do behind closed doors. We are all viewed the same in God's loving eyes. "He that is without sin among you let him first cast a stone at her" ( John 8:7).

uhhh carla, you see the report states that we are all G-d's Creation, but not all G-d's Children...one would have to know their Father in Heaven, the G-d of Abraham, and live in obedience to His Word for Him to recognize and call you His Child.

Period.
Shalom.
End of Report.

Carla,
As long as there are mean spirited bigots out there "cherry picking" the bible, and distorting the message of Jesus, there will be church sponsored hate.
And for you bible thumping, political Christians out there--go picket in front of the VP's residence in Washington! DICK Cheney's lesbian daughter and her partner are going to be
parents---of course the loving partner will have NO parental rights thanks to you guys.
God have mercy on your souls.

Mysterious [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

first I would like to say that the bible says very little at all about homosexuality. Jesus never said anything on the subject. but he did talk about liars.

while homosexual behavior is a choice, being gay isnt a choice. The bible has been altered many times to fit personal views. In one of the scriptures it describes two men kissing. In newer versions of the bible the kissing changed to a hand shake. That is just one example how man like to change and misinterpret scripture.

Naturally, it is impossible for two women to conceive a child together. Parental rights, in my thinking, are totally separate issues from gay marriage. In this case, I understand Dick Cheney's daughter will be the mother. There is a father somewhere but it is my guess that the father is an unknowing sperm donor somewhere out there. A child does not naturally have two mothers.

The way I see it, Cheney's partner, whether male or female would have no natural parental rights inherent from their relationship. It would be a matter of her partner adopting the child in some form regardless of what her partner's gender is. I don't know what the adoption laws are from state to state but I do consider this to be a separate issue from church by-laws or civil unions.

I completely respect anyone's opinion when it comes to their religious view.

It's my opinion that there are no doors closed to God's eyes and that God does put importance on what you do in your life. As far as political parties, church memberships, etc, I think all of us will be judged on our individual choices. I expect there are democrats and republicans rejoicing together in heaven even as we speak.

Darryl [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I do not believe that anyone knows of political affiliation, sexual identity, etc. in heaven.

Scriptures state that in heaven, "the cares of this life are past." So, if one is to even remotely believe that statement, then what happens here is of little consequence there.

Carol asked about janherman in another thread.

The last time janherman commented on a lte was November 3 at 11:26 am which was a Friday. I have emailed him but have received no response.

Coincidentally, a man named Roger Herman passed away on Monday, November 6, 2006.

Below is his obituary. I know it is a stretch but after reading his biography and seeing his good natured smile on several websites, I believe that this very well could be our janherman. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

If it is him or even if not, I just want to say that janherman's posts were the best I've ever read here and he made a positive impact on my life. His ability to state his opinion while respecting others' and do so in such a humorous way was unmatched.

Here's the obit:

GREENSBORO - Roger Eliot Herman, 62, died on Monday, November 6, 2006, in Greensboro, from complications of dermatomyositis.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, 2332 New Garden Road, Greensboro.
He was CEO of The Herman Group and futurist focusing on workforce trends. Roger Herman received a BA from Hiram College and an MPA from The Ohio State University. Prior to founding The Herman Group in 1980, he served as the city manager of Rittman, Ohio. During the Vietnam era, Mr. Herman served as a counterintelligence special agent.
Mr. Herman was a leading expert in workforce and workplace trends. He published eleven books and over 1,000 magazine and journal articles. His most recent book Impending Crisis: Too Many Jobs, Too Few People, often appeared on the business book best seller list. He worked as a professional speaker, a management consultant, and a popular author throughout the United States and abroad. Mr. Herman was designated a certified speaking professional by the National Speakers Association and a certified management consultant by the Institute of Management Consultants. He was the 31st Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants.
Mr. Herman was president Emeritus of Employers United for a Stronger America. Memberships included Association of Professional Futurists, World Future Society, Society for Human Resource Management, National Speakers Association, Institute of Management Consultants, and Mensa. He was also a contributing editor of The Futurist Magazine and an Editorial Board member of Employee Relations Today. He served on the thought leader panels for The Human Capital Institute.
Mr. Herman is survived by his wife, Joyce Kaplan Herman of Greensboro; his mother, Estelle Nadler Herman, of Hendersonville; his son, Scott Herman, and daughter, Jennifer Herman, of Buffalo, N.Y.; brothers Richard of Hendersonville, Gilbert of Chicago, Illinois and Charles of Atlanta, Ga.; step-children, Jeff Darr of Orlando, Florida and Bruce Darr of Hartville, Ohio, Belinda Fuchs of Boston, Mass., Melissa Weinberg of San Francisco, Calif., and Samantha Gioia of Hiram, Ohio; and two grandsons, Charlie and Aaron.

nit, I recall an article about this Herman fellow in the N & R. However wasn't the one who posted here divorced, at least once? Did this same person not speak of having some school age daughters whom he took to and picked up from school on a daily basis?

Just wondering and hoping that this obit and the one who posted are separate individuals.

Interesting thought Nitpicker. I am glad you brought that up. I too have wondered why Jan suddenly disappeared. I totally see how you think that could be him. However, he once said his name was pronounced "Jahh" and he also said he was like 78 years old. The guy in the article you posted was 62. Do you think he would meticulously make up stuff like that? He seemed sincere in his stories and comments about himself. It's probably morbid thinking, but it does seem like he may have died or something.

He will probably pop back in here later and tell us all about his 5 month ocean snorkeling expedition in the Caribbean or something like that. If he was really a 78 year old man with 2 little kids, he must be adventurous. Oh no! Maybe he was barbed by a stingray! There I go again…getting all morbid. ;-)

OOPS...posted too soon.

Nit, I sure hope that was not our Jan. As SD pointed out, his age and family don't match, but the other stuff could be him. I agree that he was such a pleasure to have on the blogs. And he promised to take my and my husband out to dinner when he retired. I hope SD is right and that he is on some great adventure...here on earth.

Darryl and Stevie D,

I know it is a stretch but the fact that he was a noted writer and speaker, the comments about him on the obituary tribute page, the date of death and it being sudden, and his involvement as a counterintelligence special agent all seemed to ring a bell somewhere on my intuitive side.

I also remember his comments about schoolage daughters and picking them up so I agree that doesn't make much sense.

I did a search on one of the names he used: Jan Van Hermansen and came up empty except for its usage on these blogs.

I hope he really is snorkling somewhere in the Pacific. I gotta admit I've been grieving a bit about the prospect of him no longer being around.

Where are you coming from? The homophobes have been making a daily habit that I'm just waiting for the outing of the next Republican!! ;)

jew4jesus [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

while the name roger eliot herman doesnt ring jewish, check out his wife's and mother's maiden names, both are very jewish names: nadler and kaplan...maybe edcone will have the answer to solve the mystery, he is very well plugged into the greensboro jewish business community and would know all the jewish movers and shakers in town...there are a couple dozen or so...

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Perhaps Roger was Jan's son or brother. Jan was very clear about being close to eighty, having an unsucessful marriage and two young daughters. I got the impression he married a much younger woman who did not appreciate his wisdom or humor. There would be no benefit to create this life if it was not his real life.

JDR will go for periods without posting. Same with Nemo, Paul Elledge, Hayes and some others. When this happens, I assume they have other priorities. Hope this is the case with Jan.

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I hope you're right, Yvonne. Strange how we feel close to those who blog. I imagine faces and really feel like I know the regulars.

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I definitely agree, Carol. Even when I want to reach thru the keyboards and thump someone on the head, I still feel a bond of sorts with fellow posters.

I remember an elderly gentleman who used to write frequent letters to the HPE and then joined in when the N-R went online. He was so articulate, so knowledgable, so fair. I read his obit and felt a genuine sense of loss and sadness.

I did a little more investigating and think I may have jumped the gun.

Here are some areas where janherman gave clues about himself.

He lived in Guilford County most his life, he had been married twice, he had at least 2 daughters still in public school (most likely elementary), he worked for 30 years for a DOD subcontractor, he was shot at in a warzone yet never enlisted in the military, he grew up in the Proximity community, he was an analyst by trade, he was a single parent.

Given his own statements about himself, there are a lot of ways he differs from Mr. Herman.

I still think it's strange that he just fell of the blog map one day without a word. I guess I was just looking too hard for a reason.

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Nit, I have a sinking feeling that maybe Jan was making stuff up and was really the Mr. Herman who passed away, but can't figure why. What would have been the point??? But then, surely he would not just disappear and not write anymore. He was on daily and with funny and intelligent comments. I felt he was as hooked as many of us are. Oh well, hope is reading this and laughing out loud.
