Truckers need safe places to park their rigs
Regarding the article, "Illegally parked tractor trailers upset residents" (Jan. 22): My dear Ms. Feddish, I cannot believe your words, "It just looks terrible," or your reference to caring about the area's reputation. And here we go again with "race."
Truckers work hard; they deliver everything you have and anything you buy. They are my son, my brother, my brother-in-law and some of the dearest friends a girl could have.
You cannot park these huge trucks just anywhere -- truckers need their rest. It's sad, but with the world's prostitutes, robbers and druggies/alcoholics, they try to park where they can actually sleep and not worry about some idiot robbing them and/or hurting them.
Maybe you should try to understand their situation. I would feel safe it they could park near where I live and, Ms. Feddish, I am also a senior citizen.

Please park the semi-trucks at truck stops, rest areas and private property. The pull off lanes on interstate ramps are for short term, emergency parking only.
BTW, I didn't find any reference to race in the article. Why did you bring it up?

I used to work at the flying j truck stop in Haw River. I was constantly running hookers out because the drivers were telling me the hookers were knocking on their doors all hours of the night and morning.
Rest areas aren't any better. sadly, I also don't like seeing the trucks on the side of the road...but I do agree: drivers need their rest! I would rather put up with the eyesore than to be run over by a driver who was fending off hookers all night long.
Most of my experience with drivers was good. Just hard working guys!

Let's sit back and see if neocon comes to the rescue of the hookers with "don't leave the nanny state in charge" or "let businesses be free to conduct business" or something else stupid as that.
