Brits just followed Congress' poor example
I know that a lot of people thought the British would be on our side through thick and thin. We have to expect them to cut and run since half of our Congress we have elected has turned and run, including the Republicans we used to trust.
I hate to think what would have happened if we had cut and run in 1941 when the Brits had their very existence threatened. We could have said, "It ain't our war," and bowed out to political pressure. We don't have a senator or congressman left who could fill the tracks of that generation.
Political correctness will destroy us. A word to the sorry bunch that will not back our troops: None of you is worth the trust we put in you.
Our soldiers have not lost a war. You lost every war we have ever lost with the help of the liberal press.

... yea, it's the press' fault, Ken - that's it.
Posted on March 2, 2007 4:23 AM
Good lte, Ken. And while the press nay not lose wars, they certainly abet the cowards in congress who's hatred for Bush outweighs what a military success in Iraq and elsewhere would mean. Their main goal is the acquisition and retention of power and to this end Bush is painted as the root of all evil in the world while the lamestream media gleefully participates...much to the delight of the enemies of America.
The 229 house democrats and 17 rinos who voted their show of support for al-Qaeda a few days ago are not only unworthy of trust, but in past times would have been tried and hung in the public square for treason.
But now the wuss party has decided that America isn't all that great a place after all and they can see where OBL and Co. have been coming from and he even has some legitimate beefs with America... especially with Bush in the WH.
Posted on March 2, 2007 6:47 AM
BTW Ken, stand by for some of those 'legit beefs' to be posted here via terrorist sympathizing media links.

For the uninitiated, the Sawyer family is and has been, the "defender in chief" of all things GOP. If they get an "A" on anything, it is consistency.
Trouble with that, is that if a Republican President declared himself "King", the Sawyer Politicos would brand him the second coming of Jesus Christ and not question on motive or idea put forth.
Ken, why don't you stop being a Republican first, and become an American first? Ever wonder why so many young people register "Unaffiliated"?

Denz,
It's the media. All their fault. Those liberals who are being blown up (Bob Woodruff) they just want to aid the terrorists! Lara Logan is the ONLY thing good in the Iraqi theater--former swimsuit model is now International Correspondent for the Tiffany network.
Just liberal media. They're to blame for there being no WMD. They're to blame for the insurgency, and they are to blame for the unarmored humvees and soldiers without flak jackets. Those liberals are the ones who caused the Abu Ghraib scandal by exposing the pictures! Damn those liberals! They are to blame for divertiing our resources from Afghanistan to Iraq. Those liberals have even thrown their cookie wrappers into soldiers rooms at Walter Reed, which caused the rat infestation! The liberal media kept Walter Reed from 'KNOWING' where the soldiers were, who were 'lost' within the system.....
Wait a minute....we wouldn't even know about these things if it weren't for those damned liberals!
NEVER MIND.

"Wait a minute....we wouldn't even know about these things if it weren't for those damned liberals!"
And that's how they hurt us the most- by letting the enemy know that things have gone wrong, and that the American people care.

Ah, 1941, what a wonderful year! But, of course, in 1941 we did say “It ain’t our war,” because it wasn’t - until 7 December.
Father Coughlin was down but still not out, still spreading his religious-right support for Hitler and Mussolini, still stirring up anti-Semitic hatred; still urging the US to stay out of the wars raging in Europe and Asia - as were the reactionists and isolationists in Congress who opposed Roosevelt’s efforts to assist the Brits and anyone else willing to fight Germany.
The German-American Bund was holding rallies in support of Hitler’s Drang nach Osten and forging links with the KKK in support of racial purity in America.
The America First Committee was serving as a right-wing media funded clearing house for isolationists from its far right and left members (Charles Lindbergh to Norman Thomas) to serving Republican and Democratic members of Congress - Pat Buchanan is still a supporter of its ideas.
In Europe, German-built Ford trucks were carrying men and materiel eastward to fight against Soviet forces being transported westward in Soviet-built Ford trucks - no wonder Henry said that history was bunk.
Another American Henry (L. Mencken) had noted that:
“...all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.
“The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
Smarmy the Clown is the closest we’ve got yet to Mencken’s prophesy.
This member of “the sorry bunch” notes that he would be most disappointed and have no confidence whatsoever in any trust such a one as Mr Sawyer would put in him. That, IMHO, would be the very time to reexamine first principles.
Thanks, Capt’n Huff’n’Puff, for your contribution to Sawyer’s lunacy.

2fer & Denzien,
Your thinking is going to take this country to hell in a handbasket. You damned liberals! Next thing you know, you'll be supporting homosexual unions, pushing AGAINST an amendment to the constitution to prohibit flag burning and other things that are tearing this "Christian Nation" apart.

Ken, When a person or people disagree with the administration about courses of action that relate to our continued participation in the current war efforts, or any war for that matter, that disagreement does not mean lack of support or withdrawal of support regarding the military. I have never heard of anyone disrespecting the service or active military personnell when they disagree about continuing
more of the same. Those are two separate issues that keep getting put in the same sentence.
I also tire of hearing the "cut and run" charge.
I have never heard anyone say cut and run. What I have heard are peoples' well thought out perspectives about where we have been, where we are and where we should go as it relates, for example, to Iraq. There are solid reasons on both sides of the argument as to whether we should continue or whether we should withdraw.
There is alot at stake either way. To label people who disagree with the continuation of the war effort with the "cut and run" charge, is to do a disservice to everyone. Cliches are non think strategies that require nothing more than to name call; that's not substantive enough.

Excellent bit of history, 2fer. I'd have iced that particular cake with a mention of GWB's granddaddy's financial aid to the Nazi's, but that's a pretty cheap shot.

Denz,
It's not a cheap shot, it's more like "low hanging fruit"!

The poor fellow probably can't spell or write a cogent sentence, so he makes his only points, through his nom de plume and cut and paste! Quite bizarre that he can't refute the news, but can bring up "The Branch Davidians" for God's sake! Talk about reaching for straws! Hope he'll eventually make it into the next decade.

"Hey look everyone! Only 20 guys got blown up today! Mission Accomplished!"

When I read the letter Ken mentioned REPUBLICANS as well as democrats. I agree with what he said.
We have both parties wanting to "cut and run". The media, TV and newpapers are so biased sometimes it's hard to know just what the news is.
I used to enjoy reading the comments from the readers to get differences of opinion but now it's down right dirty talk and trying to see who can be the most absurd. Yvonne, Bunnie, Mr. Produce, Carol where are you. I didn't always agree with you but you did stick to the comments of the letter.
If the comments keep up like they are I'll just read the letters and forget about the comments because I'll already know what most of you are going to write about. So sad that you won't use your time to actually write some worth while comments. They could be very interesting. Please consider.

You're going to be chasing that light at the end of the tunnel 5 years from now. You'll probably be blaming Clinton then. Which one I don't know.

"You're going to be chasing that light at the end of the tunnel 5 years from now."
No, no, Mr. Firefly. It will all be over before then. The terrorists' victory was sealed last November. All that's left is the official surrender or helicopters lifting the last few Americans from Baghdad amid the onslaught of al-Qaeda gunfire while the American left cheers.
Posted on March 2, 2007 9:06 PM
World traveler,
You have become so insignificant, only the ones who hate me will side with you. Out of pity I suspect. Doesn't take much substance in posting MesSNBC links about Ann Coulter. Or parroting cRock-o-...feller.
Posted on March 2, 2007 9:26 PM
BTW, Ann Coulter has never hijacked a jet and flew it into a building or strapped an IED on a drugged child and sent them into a crowd of innocent people, but the American left hates her MUCH more than they do OBL. Wonder why?
Posted on March 2, 2007 9:32 PM
But then...we know why, don't we world traveler?
Posted on March 2, 2007 9:35 PM
WAKE UP, Maggie!!
(sorry could not resist.
I too miss Yvonne, Bunnie, Mr. Produce, and Carol - I know MrP moved to Texas - but the other three must have found something better to do .. not a bad idea really. My piano playing really needs practice.
As for sticking to the comments of the letter - I don't mind the wander - I'm certainly an instigator (although all MINE are tangentially germane - that's a joke) - and even nick-names don't bother me - but the petty name calling gets old.
Posted on March 3, 2007 5:22 AM
Maggie asks for more civility and all she gets in return is an avalanche of Anne Coulter links? Last time I checked Anne Coulter has never posted on this blog. Last time I checked Anne Coulter doesn't serve in office or isn't running for office. What does she have to do with this conversation?
If she is being used as an example of vitriol from the right the exact same could be found on the left as well. Be honest.
In case temptation exists to label me an Anne Coulter apologist, actually I don't really care for her over the top message and style. I prefer Laura Ingraham much more.
Although I post almost daily on this blog I rarely post on LTEs about the war anymore as the comments are always the same.
Posted on March 3, 2007 8:07 AM
Dan,
Perhaps you no longer post on war letters is because in your heart, you have realized it is a terrible mistake? That would be commendable.
As to the Ann Coulter links about YESTERDAY, then you are sorely mistaken. Maggie mentions civility, and I give her one BIG BLONDE REASON for so much hostility in public discourse.
Since it is obvious you did not read the links, Ann Coulter called John Edwards a FAGGOT at yesterday's CPAC meeting! That's real classy. Why did she do it? Beacause she was addressing the Conservative Political Action Committee!!
So, is calling a former Senator, with wife, children and according to you and others has NEVER done anything, a FAGGOT--is THAT necessary to fire up the conservatives? If it is, then my point about you no longer posting makes more and more sense, doesn't it? Conservatives are scraping bottom and continue to scrape it on a daily basis!
Yes, Maggie I have been quite civil to those who would dis me at the drop of a hat. Then of course, I give you back up for your post and they run out of the woodwork to attack the messenger.
Shame on you, Dan. You really disappointed me.
Posted on March 3, 2007 9:31 AM
neocon,
YOU calling A-N-Y-O-N-E "insignificant" is hilarious!
Thanks for all the laughs and snickers you give us, each time you post. :)
Posted on March 3, 2007 9:33 AM
DD, I did read the Coulter links and hopefully you noticed my point about not being a big Coulter fan. I don't approve of her calling Edwards a faggot, that's way over the top.
My simple point was that the incivility exists on BOTH sides, so be fair and perhaps post a few Al Franken loony left links as well hmmmm? How about the title of his book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" for starters?
As for civility, I must commend you on a very noticable change towards it. Was that a new year's resolution?
One suggestion, you could drop the "weeping Jesus on the cross" bit.
Posted on March 3, 2007 12:59 PM
I say we strap Coulter to the stake and burn her. After all the first amendment doesn't apply to those who wish to criticize liberal politicians.
I would say if someone has the right to suggest they wished the Afghan bomber who attacked the compound where Cheney was a week or so ago had succeeded in killing the veep, Coulter certainly has the right to utter the word "faggot". No?
What's all the furor about the word "faggot" anyway? I thought they had gone mainstream and were 'loud'n proud' now.
Posted on March 3, 2007 3:25 PM
DD, congrats on the WFU win. I was pulling for them, especially as I didn't want UVA to have sole first place in the ACC. Good game.

Thanks, Dan. We always try to find some way to lose this year, but I'm glad we are .....let's say, on a one game roll!

Mr. Sawyer, it is quite clear to most people that we went into Iraq on the flimsiest of pretexts. Since we did, we lost sight of the real problem: Afghanistan, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban. Because we have so many troops in Iraq, we can't put enough troops in Afghanistan to contain the Taliban. They are reclaiming parts of Afghanistan while we watch helplessly. Why? Because we got into a stupid war in Iraq and too many of our soldiers are committed there. We still don't have Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda is still active. We are fighting the wrong war. Please explain, Mr. Sawyer, if you can, why the war in Iraq and not in Afghanistan is the best way to wage the "war on terror."
And, to reply to the criticism of Ann Coulter, her calling John Edwards a "faggot" is not at all the same as Al Franken calling Rush Limbaugh a "big, fat idiot." Al Franken gave evidence to support his claims; Ann Coulter has no evidence to present. (By the way, I dislike Franken's use of "fat" in the title of that book. I think it's an insult to us fat people.)
