Don't bother banning alcohol vapor device

Thank goodness for our elected officials, tirelessly working to save our reputation and us from our weaknesses. The latest are two bills in the N.C. legislature to prevent a Greensboro company from selling a device that allows one to inhale alcohol vapor.

Sen. Kay Hagan, who is "inclined to support" the bills, says this is not "the kind of business for which Greensboro ought to be known."

First of all, few people ordering the device that vaporizes the alcohol will even bother to think about where the seller is located, or won't care. The company does not sell its products in North Carolina because of an existing law that regulates glue sniffing.

More importantly, why should the state regulate how one chooses to enjoy alcohol? The emphasis should be on enforcement of DWI laws, not on how someone imbibes the alcohol.

Finally, in Greensboro we have several cheesy adult businesses that operate freely, some advertising their product with billboards on our highways, etc. This is OK, I guess, but save our reputation by banning a company that does not even sell to North Carolina residents. I don't get it.

Just what the world needs: a more efficient way to get drunk. "I sniff it for the flavor?" ;-)

Don't let the owners of The N Club hear you say that, DemonDeacon.

I'd be curious to see the company's first year sales receipts to Ireland.

Is he talking about the Civil Rights Museum or the Truth and Reconciliation Commission?

Dan,

You know the museum doesn't fit under the terms "operate" or "freely".

:)

I'd be interested in the health effect of inhaling alcohol. Wonder if it would be better on the liver?

My granny from Las Vegas called me last week worrying what kind of moral hellhole I was living in. Apparently, she used one of these machines at a senior citizens' orgy and saw that it was made in Greensboro. I think she also noted that that "Horny Goat Weed" you see at the minimarts was also made in NC.

According to the article (as I recall), only trace amounts of alcohol enter your system, making it difficult to get drunk off the machine. Apparently it's for stupid people who are too classy to drink alcohol the old fashioned way. But hey, it's a free country--or used to be, anyway.

You got a point Nit. I just saw "cheesy adult businesses"....well hell.....adult may not fit well either.

Cheesy businesses does fit for the civil rights museum.

Brian, I have fond memories of my grandmother. She liked Marlboro Lights and Southern Comfort. That was back in the days when I smoked so Granny (that was what we actually called her) & I would burn some tobaccy, pound down a few drinks, and I'd listen to her tell me about life in the 1920's. Special moments I'll never forget.

She told me not to let my mom know she smoked as my mom would get upset with her!
