Give veterans their due for supporting troops
I attended the Gathering of Eagles in Washington last month and am saddened by how this historic event was reported. I was among (officially) 30,000 veterans who came from across the country to defend the honor of our fallen brothers and the sanctity of their memorial. Much like on the battlefield, we, the veterans, take care of our own in life and death.
In the U.S. Marine Corps, I learned such creeds as honor, courage and commitment. The media included us with the protesters and gave our numbers a political spin. Shame to anyone who politicizes what we did that day. I wasn't there for or against Bush. It was for the troops past and present.
Do you wish Vietnam era strife? Never again will political agenda come on the backs of fallen soldiers and their families. The protesters were made up of extremists, some of whom vowed to damage the Vietnam Wall.
This day, I was there to protect my country from domestic threats as I swore to do in days past. The military man does not fight for political favor, but for you and the ideals this great nation was founded upon. Give us our voice and report it correctly.

I want to stand up and cheer for this letter. You are right on target Marine. I only wish I could have attended the event myself. Many of my friends did attend. Thank you for going.

Can't argue with this one. Didja bring your AK?

What a sad commentary on our nation. First, you go and suck mud in some jungle. Then you come back and people spit on you or worse. Just when you think you're making headway and getting your due, a bunch of know-nothings comes along and tries to take that away.
Lots of people today have no idea what sacrafice is. One of my buds walks around with part of his calf still in the jungle. Another is still there in his mind. Yet another wonders when the shrapnel will shift and take him. Lots of good men are still there and won't come back.
To make matters worse, you have people like the parents of the "abused" child who compare their child's "ordeal" of having to stand in a corner to what my brothers went through. I don't wish ill on anyone, but when I see people like this I just want them to see a tenth of what we saw. Maybe then they'd stop their whining.
I'm with JDR. Anyone caught defacing any war memorial should be punished. I don't know about shooting them, but they ought to have their butts sent to someplace that doesn't value the sacrafices of others. At that place they will see how little freedom they have.

I do fear the long term effect of buds walking around with part of their calf left in the desert, others remaining there in there mind.
I do wish SOMEONE had an answer.

JDR (and others), I do not want to even make an attempt at offering a possible resolution to the past mistakes.
However, for the current military boondoggle I say, exit NOW before there are more than 58K lessons left unlearned yet again! The world did not end when the US military left Viet Nam just over 30 years ago and it WILL NOT end when US military forces leave Iraq! It would be much more honorable to leave with an ounce of dignity than to leave in a body bag! That is what will happen to even more troops if this fiasco is not stopped NOW!

Vietnam didn't have a load of oil sitting beneath it.

"Attention neocon, Dan, hugh, and others.....your worst nightmare is coming true.

And guys, you'd better hurry because tickets are going fast!

Was Cindy Sheehan on American Idol? Oh that's right, it was that Daughtry (sp) guy who came to town.
What's Cindy doing in town, when, where? I'll make sure I'm doing something else, like picking weeds next to a WV interstate.

Having to do community service is a pain, isn't it Dan? Do you get to pick weeds by yourself, or do they dress you up in orange and have the sheriff there, too?
:D

Dan, it was on the front page of this website. She's supposed to be coming to speak at some function or another.
Maybe you guys can get an Anti-Sheehan rally going instead of picking weeds. Come on....it'll be fun!

I feel really sorry for anybody who would pay to see Cindy Sheehan.

nit, I do not believe that there are any "tickets" sold to see/hear Cindy Sheehan. That would be counter to the movement to which she is so greatly involved.
And even if there were tickets sold, I would go without medicine or food to hear her/see her!
