Research is a better cause than campaign

When Elizabeth Edwards went public that her cancer had returned, money started pouring into John Edwards' campaign — more than $1 million.

Because she has cancer (and my prayers are with her) does that make him any smarter or more capable of running our country? People didn't think so before her cancer returned.

I have the same cancer Elizabeth has; my breast cancer came back and metastasized to the bone.

I think the money would be better spent on cancer research to help find a cure for all of us.

Former Senator Edwards must be one of the most CALLOUSLY ambitious politicians we have seen in quite some time. He has a seriously ill wife and two very young daughters who have a 50%+ chance of losing their mother within five years. Yet he (and she, for that matter) have decided that "the campaign goes on strongly."

I believe Mrs. Edwards knows this campaign is a short term thing. His candidacy is going nowhere. He is simply positioning himself for high office within the new administration in exchange for his endorsement, should one of his primary opponents succeed in winning the Oval Office.

From there, he'll launch his TRUE run for the job in 2016.

Being a bit judgmental and sanctimonious today, aren't you Jack? I think Edwards is only doing what his wife wants him to do. She said they could stop everything and prepare to die or go on living as long as they could. She chose to go on living life as normally as possible.

However, regardless of what you or I think, it is their decision to make. A little empathy goes a long way, Jack.

I have great empathy for Mrs. Edwards. And great sympathy for her as well. Certainly, I would not wish her health concerns upon anyone.

And as you, Yvonne, have established such a highly refined precedent of being non-judgmental in your posts regarding President Bush and his administration, I suppose I COULD ease off a bit on Former Senator Edwards himself.

How would this be: In my first sentence above, change CALLOUSLY to implacably (in lower case letters). Does that work for you?

But when it comes to being sanctimonious, I am merely an amateur in the presence of the High Priestess of the concept, madam. I defer to your superiority in this matter.

Hmm, maybe if John Edwards were elected President, stem-cell research WOULD receive federal funding! Remember, that is the ONLY veto offered in over six years of wasteful spending by CONSERVATIVES!

I will have to believe the Edwards' as I have no reason at this point to not believe what they stated when it was disclosed that Elizabeth Edwards cancer has returned.

Yvonne nice comments. However, consider the source, it would save you some time posting!

And now Peggy, while am not privy to the reasons behind this comment; "When Elizabeth Edwards went public that her cancer had returned, money started pouring into John Edwards' campaign more than $1 million." Those who donated are the responsible ones, NOT you or I!

And just because people donated to the Edwards Campaign, does that mean that money was not also donated to cancer research? Any evidence to support that either way? Were any efforts made to ascertain that information? If so, why not mention of that? If not, why not?

Or, as I truly believe, is this nothing more than a partisan letter in opposition of Edwards in his presenidential bid? Why not just state that and leave the other issue alone!

Shalom

If you call the brutal schedule of a presidential wannabe a normal life we aren't seeing the same page here.

I do agree however Yvonne, it's their decision to do what they want to do, not ours.

I also agree with Jack that Edwards hasn't a chance of winning in '08 but would like to tag along for another VP slot and an eventual run later.

Lo and behold I even agree with Darryl. Donations to Edwards campaign and cancer research have nothing to do with each other.

In fact, the LTE writer should donate to Edwards campaign herself. If he were to become Prez or even VP you can bet your bottom dollar even MORE money would be spent on cancer research, particularly breast cancer, because of his wifes experience with it.

Well, that settles it Jack. You have to be female cause I've never met a man who was so catty. You can retract your claws sweetie. Fighting with you (or anyone else) is not my style.

I'm sorry that she has cancer, it is a devastating disease but that doesn't change the fact John is totally unqualified to lead our nation. He didn't do his job a NC senator so how can he be qualified to do the job as President?
May the (healing)force be with you Mrs. Edwards.
