Press did sloppy job telling reasons for war
Recently on PBS, Bill Moyers did a terrific show detailing some of the outright lies by the president to the American people to justify starting a war in Iraq. Moyers also showed how poorly the press performed. It simply failed to do its job, which is to find the real facts and give us the truth.
Moyers showed that on the rare occasion when the press did print a story that contradicted what the president was saying, it was printed inside the paper. And so, when I read my News & Record this morning, I was not surprised to find a story on page seven about how the tally of the civilian deaths in Baghdad did not include the many deaths from car bombs and other explosive devices. In other words, the surge is working because violence is lower in Baghdad -- but only if you don't count violence inflicted by IEDs.
The story was a good one. But why not on page one with a headline such as: "Violence really increases since surge began"? Come on, press people, it's time to give the truth prominence in our paper.

Ellen, moveon.org offers e-mail alerts to keep the kooks abreast of all the really important stuff. No reason to rely on the Bush/Cheney mouthpieces in the lamestream media.

Ellen, let me get this straight...the MSM is a lackey to the Bush Administration? Surely, you can't be serious. I agree that the press needs to start giving us the truth, but how do you know that Bill Moyers is the sole source of the truth?

Oak and Kitty,
Once again, ignorance is spoken by those with absolutely NO knowledge of the subject.
The Moyers Special, you know, the one spoken about in the above Letter....well, it was a scathing indictment of how the mainstream media was a willing participant as an extension of the White House Press Office. Obviously neither of you saw it, or your remarks would not be so ignorant. Seems that only the Knight Ridder chain of papers actually did any real journalism, and by that I mean "verification of statements" and "research".
Here's a link for you two:

Moyers is a vilifying, lying sycophant marxist dog whose every word is a slanderous scab on the truth.
Otherwise, he's a pretty decent guy. I would help pay to send him to embed with the 10th Mountain.

The same ones who are vilifying Moyers now are the same ones who would think he was Christ like if his special exonerated the Bush administration. Some will stick to the party line no matter how credible a journalist might be or how truthful his story is.

Yvonne,
You are so right. I provided the link above which will allow the right wing nutjobs to actually WATCH the show. Seems they are too lazy or intrasigent. As the old saying goes, "Minds are like parachutes, they only operate when open".
The show consisted mostly of interviews and film footage backing up EVERY SINGLE word. Truth is sometimes a hard thing for the neocons to swallow.

Yvonne & TLC, your comments resonate with me!
I watched the Bill Moyers program on PBS. I found it very enlightening. What was villifying is how the "liberal media" was a very WILLING participant in the Bush Middle East Boondoogle! It seems that some do not know "which side of their bread is buttered!"
It is this same "liberal media" that won two elections for the Crawford Clown and his minions. It is this same "liberal media" that participated in taking America's soldiers into an unwarranted and unjustified combat situation.
Wonder why some do not call the media "liberal" when they think on the things in the previus paragraph? That reminds me of a plow horse wearing blinders!
Shalom

"Specials" like this is why Bill Moyers and the other democratic parrots over at pbs rely on welfare to keep them on the air.
They would sink in 90 days without the government handouts and the donations the true believers send in once a year.

Little Kitty,
That's such a intelligent post...
(neocon) our little Kitty, can't post anything worthwhile, so in keeping with the 28% and dropping, he just shoots off about nothing meaningful..

Kitty Cat, it just shows that you don't read, or even watch things other than what your comfort level allows.
Meow!
