Search Google for more on global warming issue
In discussions about global warming, nobody denies warming is taking place. Debatable is the cause.
It seems that lately, scientific empirical evidence has taken a back seat to politics, specifically liberal politics.
Anyone who tries to articulate an alternative theory is attacked personally and publicly, called names and otherwise insulted. This is indicative of people who know they might be wrong.
There is credible scientific evidence that solar activity is more responsible for warming than human activity.
If you can't blame anyone, there are no politics. Also, it is demonstrated that carbon dioxide is a result of warming, not a cause. Hmmm!
The video, "The Great Global Warming Swindle," by British network TV4 addresses these issues, is informative and not hosted by politicians. Type the title into your Google search to view the video on computer. Remember, Al Gore is a politician and lawyer, not a scientist.
I urge all to view this informative video, educate yourselves to all sides of the issue, and then make up your minds based on facts. Don't blindly swallow propaganda. That is what happened in Nazi Germany.

Be prepared to be attacked personally, publicly, called names and otherwise insulted on this blog Daniel. A few of the usual suspects do exactly as you illustrate.

Here's how I look at it.
When I was 18 - 1970 .. my school brought in a trailer loaded with IBM computer equipment. "Things are changing rapidly, there are lots of new opportunities out there" was the real message. Having the wisdom of a toad, all I heard was "You too can be a data entry clerk!"
Now that might have been all the teachers said - but not everyone missed the opportunities about to open up. Ya'll might want to consider that as you diss' the Great Global Warming Scam.

The SUN causes the earth (and other planets) to warm???
Hello?
Only algore's scientists have not been corrupted by 'big oil'. Every other climatologists that has an opposing view has invaribly been bought off by Exxon. This is the mantra of the wackos that have adopted environmentalism as their new religion and worship algore as the messiah.

Daniel,
Excellent letter.
Global Warming, or Climate Change, as the term is fast being "genteeled" into, is one of the ever growing number of bricks in the dogma of socailist religion. There is a like-mindedness among the "village" mentality that latches onto any issue that will allow the usurping of individuality.
Civil discourse is rare, because the discussion ultimately is not over environment, but rather individual freedom and responsibility versus the "greater good". Socialism cannot exist without a "straw man" crisis to control the individual American.
Those who question the status quo are heretics.
"It takes a restraining order to keep a village from trying to raise a child".

THE LIBERAL CANADIAN, do you realize how idiotic some people are to buy into algore's scam that he can control the weather?
No, I doubt that you do...

“Anyone who tries to articulate an alternative theory is attacked personally and publicly, called names and otherwise insulted.”
(This is also good advice for this blog site…for both sides!)
Very well. I will try not to attack Daniel personally, just his sources. If you Google this site and related sites, you will find that the conjectures of the show have been debunked. In addition, the controversial producer of the show Martin Durkin was once closely involved with the “Revolutionary Communist Party”, its offshoot “Living Marxism” and “Spiked Magazine” which is highly critical of environmentalism. Spiked Magazine was founded in 2000 after bankruptcy of its predecessor “LM (Living Marxism) Magazine.” (Neo, this is the second time in a week you’ve bought into Communist based "facts". I’m starting to worry.)
The program was investigated after complaints by interviewees, which found that Durkin misrepresented and distorted the views by editing film footage in a misleading way. One of the scientists interviewed stated that his “discussion was grossly distorted…is deeply embarrassing and my professional reputation has been damaged. I was duped.”
The fact of Global warming and its causes are almost universally accepted by reputable scientists. The main error that has been made is that it is occurring much faster than anticipated. Even Bush has gone from denying its existence to the position of OK its happening but it’s too late and cost too much to fix. In today’s paper he proposed a climate strategy of non-binding emission reductions. Although the proposal is considered a sham by environmentalists, it is an acknowledgement by our Govt. of one of the main causes of global warming.
Go to this site for lists of major global warming studies representing an overwhelming consensus of thousands of scientists and numerous countries.

What do 95% of scientists know anyway? There is a great "Know Nothing" movement in this country where inconvenient facts are ignored and messenger killing (algore) tactics are in vogue.
Alternate theories are pursued with religious zeal?
I'm all for looking at both side and letting the cards fall where they may. Right now the consensus is on the side of global warming caused mostly by human intervention. That may be entirely wrong. Widely accepted theories have been discredited before. The important thing in the scientific method is for theory to follow the facts, not make the facts follow the theory.

Mr Waldschmidt would like to co-opt the terms of the debate so that he can't lose, but it is hardly name calling to say that he is gullible enough to rely on totally unreliable sources (good post, VOR, or you can just goggle Carl Wunsch and Channel 4)), dishonest enough to presnet the trappings of reason and science while demonstrating almost total ignorance of the science and data involved in this issue, and biased enough to denigrate the messenger and falling into the Nazi trap.
As we have seen, the usual cast of characters are all too eager to let Waldschmidt slide on by.
This crowd is a fitting tribute to our idiot president, who has now decided that he wants to lead efoorts to curb be a Global Warming by opposing any meaningful action while encouraging yet more politically motivated studies and establishing new, voluntary, unenforced goals that will let us blame everyone else for our being the biggest part of the problem.
Ah well, nature has done a pretty good job of picking up the pieces after previous periods of extinction, so for life in general, this will be just another pause in the course. As a German veteran once said after Stalingrad, we'll continue our advance to the east, only without so many incomberances and under different leadership.

The only serious evidence that I've seen discrediting global warming is the fact that Bush is now on board to reduce emissions to combat it.
For some reason that makes the whole theory suspect for me.

Ellis - "The Times of India?" Doesn't your reference of this website kind of prove how far you have to go to find arguments against Global Warming. Of course, The United States, China, and India (with the US largest by far) are the biggest contributers to Global Warming and the biggest users of fossil fuels. They also want to do the least about it (with the US fighting the hardest to ignore it).

Well, once again, the lowest common denominators claim climate change is a myth. I'm sure Exxon-Mobil et al. are glad they have some shills working on their side.

I heard this story on NPR WJ. This guy was excoriated by the man made global warming crowd, basically accused of heresy for not towing the line.
Repeat as needed: "Anyone who tries to articulate an alternative theory is attacked personally and publicly, called names and otherwise insulted.'
On a personal note, my dad went on a fishing trip in Ontario, Demon Deacon would appreciate that, you know, Canada and all. The weather all week was abnormally cold, very cold. But of course that is due to global warming too, the faithful even claim cold weather represents abnormal fluctuations in temperatures, of course due to Americans and others to a lesser degree.

Blasphemy!
You won't laugh when algore raises his staff and parts the sea...
Posted on June 1, 2007 9:06 PM
It matters not what you counter this nonsense with, the true believers always have a quick response from 'their scientists'.
Just try it. Mention someone who is a learned climatologist that doesn't swallow algore's tripe and they will produce 'evidence' that he/she is either 1) a 'big oil' shill, or 2) their ex brother in-law's uncle once lived next door to someone who owned a share of Exxon Mobil and this puts them squarely in the hip pocket of 'big oil'.
It's downright comical. I find it hard to keep a straight face when I read some of these comments.
"The US fighting the hardest to ignore it"... Great! This tells me that there are not as many idiots in the US as the tin hatters would have us believe with the worn out algore mantra "the debate is over". 'Nazis', 'Stalingrad', 'extinction of life'... please...someone shoo away the flies.
Again: Environmentalism is the new religion of the left and they pursue it with a fervor that makes Falwell and Swaggart look like timid amateurs. 'Nature' is what they worship. Trees worms, and snails are higher order of life form to them than unborn humans. They attack with zeal anyone who disses the whale, but have no problem at all in inserting an ice pick into the skull of an infant.
Just look at the media hype surrounding these two stupid fish who lacked the intelligence to stay out in deep waters. The liberal media has been mopping tears for a week about these misplaced whales while the slaughter of infants continues unchecked.
Go figure.

“It matters not what you counter this nonsense with, the true believers always have a quick response from their scientists.”
Well Duh!
Versus:
I heard a story about this “guy”…
I went on a fishing trip and it was cold
“They” say it’s the solar system
I read something from this Indian guy who had read stuff from a fiction book and from an economist
I saw this TV program from a nutball producer
Mention “someone” who is a learned climatologist
People, people people…
Do you seriously think environmentalism is the new religion of the left? Look around at the right. Most are already on board with the rest of the world. The ship has sailed and you’ve been left in the deep water with the whales. So be proud of your pollution at 9000 feet and elsewhere.

"lastvor - your last paragraph sounds eerily like 1930's Germany"
Ellis, Seriously, I'd like to know why. I was just making the point that almost everyone, right, left, and middle recognizes the importance of protecting the environment to a greater or lessor extent. Bush, big business, Democrats, and Republicans, are proclaiming the importance of preserving the environment, whether they back it up with actions or not. But being a free country, those that are left can still be proud of their efforts to pollute the environment if they wish.
I really don't see the parralel to 1930's Germany.

Too bad you can't understand humor Demon Deacon. I just thought about you when my dad went to Ontario since you have such an affinity with Canada.
Using the same logic I did in my humor, Nancy Pelosi went to Greenland, saw some melting ice, and proclaimed that global warming is for real.
This was printed in today's N&R op-ed section. Next weeks G-8 summit's primary focus will be global warming. Never mind that a terrorist sponsoring nation like Iran is working on nukes, that requires courage to deal with. Never mind N. Korea is working on nukes as well. Nooooooo, more important is the fact that the world is warming, just as it has over and over in it's history of warming and cooling. But of course it's the United State's fault.

Danny boy,
As for your references to Americans going abroad, I will use an excerpt from an article from one of your more used "tabloids", USA Today:
"A mother lode of goodwill fostered in the decades after the defeat of Nazi Germany has been reduced to dust in recent years. A growing number of foreigners see some of the United States' political decisions (pulling out of the Kyoto Treaty on global emissions) and personal choices (Americans' penchant for gas-loving SUVs) as at best unilateral and at worst selfish. The confrontation over Iraq is just more fuel on a bonfire.
From Spanish plazas to Parisian metros, American tourists are being quizzed, grilled and even spat on by people who do not approve of the Bush administration's drive for a war against Saddam Hussein."
-----------
So you and your friend neocon (TM) are part of the reason many foreigners detest the United States. When traveling with children, yes, I will ALWAYS err on the side of safety.
While your ignorance is laughable, your
narcissism is disturbing. I'm sure it makes you feel powerful, but it really doesn't impress anyone else.

Gotta love this, Demon Deacon sews Canadian flag patches on his kids backpacks to avoid risk of getting any French spit on himself or his offspring. On top of that it's the fault of me and Neocon. Anyone who is afraid of the French is a true wimp. Did you try to parlez-vous Francais with them? This is priceless.
I went to several European countries last summer including Russia. No spit, just a few good shots of Russian vodka from the locals.
Posted on June 2, 2007 4:09 PM
VOR, I'm back off the floor from Demon Deacon's post. No hard feelings at all. I don't agree with you always, but you are a civil voice of reason.
Speaking of fishing trips, I went on one to Labrador in June 1988. It was snowing!! The locals said "we have three seasons, July, August and Winter". I bet they have palm trees there now.
Posted on June 2, 2007 4:59 PM
"I will ALWAYS err on the side of safety."
Mantra of the coward.
I'm thankful those who raised the flag on Iwo Jima decided not to "err on the side of safety".
Let's review. For those who are just tuning in and may be a bit confused by the 'ballad of the Canadian flag':
Ned,
This is a great letter and I share your thoughts. As I contemplate another international trip with my family, I am even more disturbed at our standing in the world. While visiting London and France, we sewed Canadian flag patches to our backpacks---it saved us from the ire of many and we met many new friends through that act. I only wish we did not have to do that again.
Thanks again for your letter.

Hey LIBERAL CANADIAN, if you're scared of those Frenches you should try and face a hostile crowd of those 60's and 70's tambourine playing hippies while wearing a military uniform right here in the good ol US of A.

Ahhhh, the coward returns to the scene of the crime.
Richard Nixon: "I am not a crook".
George H.W. Bush: "Read my lips, no new taxes".
Bill Clinton: "I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky."
Demon Deacon: "While visiting London and France, we sewed Canadian flag patches to our backpacks---it saved us from the ire of many and we met many new friends through that act."
Face it Demon Deacon, certain quotes stick in perpetuity and forever define the individual, for better or worse.
Your famous quote will define you, at least in this blog, in perpetuity. Then you add the complimentary quote to the first one: "When traveling with children, yes, I will ALWAYS err on the side of safety."
You are forever defined as what you are, a coward. Just to be the understanding guy that I am, I could probably see not wearing T-Shirts emblazoned with American flags while travelling in Syria, but FRANCE of all places??? France is the home of cowards, I've lived there and know them quite well, and they should easily welcome an American who is ashamed of his country.
Please tell me, how did you explain this to your children? I couldn't imagine telling my kids to pretend we are Canadians when, at 6 & 4, they know damn well we are Americans. Was this your idea or your wife's idea? Or both?
How pathetic.
Remember kids, we go on vacation in BC, not DC.

Wow, really skidded off the road on this lte.
Now back to the point.
"Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus."

Hey kids, your second cousin twice removed is from Huntsville Ontario, NOT Huntsville, AL. (BTW, there is a Huntsville Ontario, look it up DD). It's only about a one hour flight from New York DD so it should make the kids feel somewhat American.
How pathetic.
Posted on June 3, 2007 11:15 PM
Dan, regarding your post of June 3 8:06 PM you say:
“I could probably not see wearing T-Shirts emblazoned with American flags while traveling in Syria, but France of all places…”
Its one thing to do something to avoid ill feelings from others or similar reasons, however, you might find it interesting to know that all military and DOD civilian personnel must take anti-terrorist training once a year. Most of this is geared to staying alert and taking safeguards while traveling. The training stresses than when traveling to Europe of other overseas places, never wear or have anything that might identify you as an American and make you a terrorist target. They specifically mention flags and include stuff from sports teams and anything else that might single you out, including uniforms, if off duty. As you well know, most European nations have large immigrant populations with many from countries where terrorists originate.
Posted on June 4, 2007 2:28 PM
VOR, when was the last time you heard of an American being kidnapped or killed by a terrorist in Europe? The last incident I remember was the April 1986 Berlin Disco bombing with Libya involved. 2 American servicemen and a Turkish woman were killed.
Even without flag laden clothing you can spot an American from two miles away in Europe. Shorts, T-shirts, baseball caps, camera hanging around the neck, tennis shoes, fannypacks, a bottle of Coke, and a bottle of hand sanitizer hanging off the fannypack.
Your post is informative, yet it has nothing to do with an American father disguising himself and his family as Canadians.
Posted on June 4, 2007 2:56 PM
LastVOR,
Thanks for elevating the intelligence level of the blog.
Posted on June 4, 2007 3:01 PM
Dan - I'm not sure what attacks or threats there have been, however, I assume the training is based on actual or perceived threat assessment. This training was new after 9/11 and there have been terror attacts in Eurpope, Ex. Spain. I don't think you need to disguise yourself, however, if the pentagon thinks it's a good idea for their millions of employees, it's probably wise not to advertise.
Posted on June 4, 2007 3:27 PM
VOR, I lived in France in 1984-1985. During that time there were a few terrorist attacks including the Sept. '84 bombing of the US Embassy annex in Beirut and the June '85 hijacking of TWA 847. Things were heating up between the US and Libya and Gorby took office in March '85.
During that time a majority of French were very critical of US policy (what's new?) and I took a lot of heat, especially in a university setting. I heard incessantly that Reagan was a terrorist and was going to start WWIII with the Soviets, the US is an imperialist nation, etc. etc.
At the time I had reddish hair and a beard (now brown hair sans beard) and most people thought I was Irish. It would have been easy to claim nationality to the country of my great grandparents, but I'm an American and I'm wasn't going to lie about it. I am proud to be an American.
Disagree with your govt., fine, but to deny your country is cowardly. It's bad enough for oneself to do this, but I can imagine the poor example it sets for impressionable children.
I had friends from all over, Middle East (including a Syrian and Lebanese), Africa (including several Libyans), S. America & Asia. We would discuss politics constantly and of course have disagreements, but the criticism was directed towards our governments, not each other. Imagine me and some Libyans debating our government's policies, that was fun :)
I've been back to Europe twice since the Iraq war started, including France, with no problem at all. The French are nice to me, but it helps to speak the language.
Posted on June 4, 2007 5:22 PM
Dan - The Pentagon didn't advise to lie or deny but to be discreet in dress and appearance and when talking to strangers. I hope you never have a problem and hopefully to risk is small. Of course, you're right that if you can't talk to people and share stories about your homeland it wouldn't be much point going. Very different world we live in since 9/11.

You can't polish a turd. There are one of 3 things that happened: 1) THE LIBERAL CANADIAN was scared to travel to France and England as an American, and showed his cowardice to his family by sewing Canadian flag patches to their backpacks, or 2) He was stupid enough to expose his family to what he truly believed to be a dangerous situation, or 3) this is all a crock of bullshit and he was just seizing the opportunity to tell a tall tale in hopes it would elevate his stature in the eyes of his peers by blaming Bush for the plight Americans faced when traveling abroad.
Take your pick. Either one exposes him for the coward he is.

I'm going to China in Sept. to see where all the toys my kids play with are made :) Actually just a vacation. I will proudly tell people I'm an American.

I'm waiting for THE LIBERAL CANADIAN to relate the conversation he had with one of his close 'friends' (read sprite) that works for the state department (with whom he played golf with this past weekend, no doubt) that advises ALL Americans to sew Canadian flag patches to their clothing while traveling abroad.
And this will put THE LIBERAL CANADIAN 'ahead of the curve', so to speak, and he is to be congratulated for his foresight in this matter.
THE LIBERAL CANADIAN, what percentage of the public is humping LastVOR's leg?

neo,
It is obvious from your posts that you do not belong to even a "lower middle class" socio economic base. Therefore you will NEVER know the life many of us at the higher ends live. Guess we pulled ourselves up from the bootstraps harder? You and your 'little' friend are perfect together--you do make us smile.
