'Sicko' sheds light on issue of health care
Michael Moore's movie, "Sicko," about our health care system, is excellent. I saw it. Everyone should see it. You might just want to move to Canada, England, France or Cuba afterwards.
It may seem like a dry, boring subject, but it is not. Moore did a fantastic job with this film. He is to be greatly commended. Go see it! You'll be glad you did.

Unfortunately that it was made by "Michael Moore" is all that a lot of people need to know about this film.
America has the best medical technology in the world with one of the poorer distribution systems. Watching a mother with terminal cancer, and good health insurance fight her way though the system is heartbreaking. Such patients are often treated as profit centers instead of people.
I'll say it again, the AMA is the last effective union in the country.

To all the "Sicko" fans who might just want to move to Canada, England, France or Cuba, please don't slam the door on your way out. Thanks

Ghost,
Have you actually seen "SICKO" or are you just spouting the party line?

Rufus, I am becoming a more firm believer in the comment regarding the AMA.
TLC, need that question even be raised? As Rufus noted, is some see "Michael Moore," that is enough to suit them. No one enjoys seeing their "heroes" true "colors." What Moore is exposing is just that, the true "color" of the American health care system.
This brings to mind something I heard a couple of days ago. I was tuned in to a local Christian radio station. A local church pastor was preaching and talking about how Christians should work for their employer as if that employer were God. And then he noted that the employer should treat the employees as if that employer were God, without favor to any; sharing the wealth with the employees! When those comments were made, I cried out, "Socialist!"
I love it when more fundamental Christians support what the supposed "liberal" people of faith talk about on a more continual basis!

"You might just want to move to Canada, England, France or Cuba afterwards."

neoKitty,
I'm heading to Ireland in August...bring your rickshaw along and your tales of the Ho Chi Minh Trail..LOL!

"I'm heading to Ireland in August.."
Good for you Demon Deacon. My maternal family hails from Ireland. McNalley is the name. Are Canadian flag patches going to be needed?
I'm heading to Tanzania in August. Hopefully I will not need health care in Tanzania as it's poor. I've had my arms shot this week with yellow fever, Hep A, and polio booster. Malaria and typhoid drugs are on order.
We just "adopted" a Tanzanian boy through this eeeeeeevvvvvvvviiiiiiiilllllll group that is affiliated with the Catholic Church http://www.cfcausa.org/
We will send money each month to help this boy with food, clothing and education. This group receives a top star rating with the American Institute of Philanthropy and Charity Navigator.
Ain't it awful Demon Deacon? The Catholic Church and 'ol conservative Dan providing some good in the world?

Dan,
Since the trip I made with the patches was immediately following September 11th, 2001 I don't think I'll need them in Ireland. They already know how stupid our leaders are.
As to your other comments, I would only direct you to the LTE today which cites Matthew:
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." (Matthew 6:1, 5-7, NIV)
And before you begin to say "looky what you did", just remember, I only told of my volunteer work at the Urban Ministry when ridiculously false statements were made about the homeless.

Two points Demon Deacon.
1) Why would you pretend to be Canadian right after 9/11? The whole world, as you commonly cite, was on our side after 9/11. Yes, even the French.
2) As stated before, I applaud your service with Urban Ministry. You should talk about it in the hope others would be interested in serving. My point about cfcausa.org is to refute your constant demonization of the Catholic Church. Disagree with the doctrine fine, but the Catholic Church and affilated organizations actually try to do some good in the world and that should be applauded just as your service with Urban Ministries.

Danny,
My trouble with the catholic church is its continual treatment of half the world's population as second class citizens. The organization is and always HAS BEEN about P-O-W-E-R, pure and simple.
Arrogance is incredible too! Just look at what crap came out of the Vatican this week! Full of hubris, the Pope declares all other religions "subordinate" to Catholicism! What a friggin joke!

If you are a control freak, which all signs point that way, then you must LOVE the Catholic Church.

By the way, I subscribe to the "servant as leader" philosophy, and would never rant and rave about what and where I volunteer--unless it comes up...as in your total ignorance of the homeless.
By the way, have you printed up some business cards for the Homeless to hand out when they see you downtown?
