Respect all animals

People are condemning Michael Vick's behavior, but they don't have the moral strength to condemn the brutal killing of other animals. And they even go so far as to justify the recreational killing of some animals.

Why does the dog have such a high place among our concern? All animals are God's creations and their lives are sacred.

People make a sport out of killing other beautiful and majestic animals not for food but for their own selfish pleasure -- deer, bears, foxes, birds, rabbits, squirrels, fish -- just to name few.

What greatly hurts me more than two dogs fighting is the thought of beautiful animals in their natural environment taking a stroll with their family or looking for food and a human sitting in ambush with sophisticated high-powered weapons waiting to kill those animals just for sport or a trophy.

God created all life forms and that life is not to be taken except for just cause. If you can't condemn to the same degree the cruel unjust killing or treatment of any of God's creatures, then your thinking is weak and defective in condemning Vick for abusing just dogs.

Time to kill

It would be nice to hear from a State Game Warden right about now!

Growing up a hunter I read about a situation several years ago several counties in rural Pennsylvania outlawed and stopped the recreational hunting of deer. An almost instantaneous reaction occurred. The rate of road kills went up exponentially endangering the motorists. Within a couple of years the wild herds were starving. The populations had overrun the natural food supply so quickly that the animals were noted as emaciated and sick. Genetically inferior animals were suddenly breeding and spreading genetic problems throughout the herds as well.

Now, we as Gods human creation need to realize that we are made in His image (not a deers or a dogs). Any veterinarian will admit that euthanasia is a necessary tool that we as humans use to manage our pets in the name of humanity. Those barbaric hunters, that are so cruelly striking down the poor baby deer, are doing nothing different than the wolves, mountain lions etc. used to do in the past before we humans pushed the predators out of their range. There are NO natural predators for these poor baby deer any more. So, if we as humans want to be good stewarts of our environment it is our DUTY to manage the wild "herds"! "Stressing" the herds by yearly thinning of the populations improves the genetic quality, and the overall health.

That's it. I'm going to call and make a reservation at Leblon this weekend and engage in a total meat feast.

Also recall that in Genesis, God commanded humans to take dominion over animals. Basically this means bossing them around. God's attitude toward hunting is clearly shown in the story of Cain and Abel. The latter, a hunter, offered an animal sacrifice, which God naturally preferred over Cain's lousy vegetable sacrifice. Cain, the first vegetarian, became irate and killed his brother. That will show you how much you should trust vegetarians.

I'm confused. Is the letter writer trying to say that dog fighting/gambling should be legalized or that game hunting should be outlawed?

geohokie [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I think that the LTTE is taking a pop shot at hunters trying to say that they are cruelly gunning down baby deer just to see them die, and that this "self serving sport" is no different than throwing two starved and mistreated - beaten dogs into a ring and letting them fight until the death is no different.

I guess that is why the State of North Carolina is currently coming up with a Dog Fighting Game Warden to monitor just how many dogs are killed in these fighting rings per year! We wouldn't want to kill too many pit bulls without the proper licensed individuals tending to the fights now would we!

Darryl [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

While I am not in agreement with how this LTTE presents his POV, I can relate to how he feels regarding SPORT hunting. I do not mean the SPORT OF HUNTING. I mean going out and killing animals just for the fun of it!

What I find offensive is how a story from scripture is used in such a light-hearted manner without any thought of the damage that may cause. And for the record, the first humans (pre-expulsion from paradise) were solely vegetarian as there are NO indications to indicate otherwise. To use scripture in such a manner is what is known as "text proofing." This is used by person's wishing to use ANY/ALL means possible to provide evidence to support his/her POV. To use the referenced story above as has been is a poor testimony, even in jest!

Okay, has Douglas been to the local Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Wal Mart grocer? Seen the meat counter? Does he think it's picked from a tree?
Douglas has a problem, and he wants us all to stop sacrificing all life for our consumption. He is worried about other life forms that also eats something?
Does Douglas have a problem crying over the beautiful veggies plucked from their natural habitat just to be sliced, diced and stewed?
We humans are near the top of the feeding chain. Please, Douglas....tell us what to do? The Dog's getting pissed off! He's outa here.

You know the human herds have been looking a little sickly lately too.

Hmmmmmmm!

Many thanks to Mr. Diaab for his wonderful, well-written editorial. I would certainly rather have him as a neighbor, friend, co-worker as any of you angry, bitter, miserable ones who actually call yourselves human with no respect for life. Animals were put on this earth for a reason - get a clue. When you destroy the balance of nature you destroy your world. If you are too pathetic to respect other forms of life, it is more than apparent you highly value your own so-called life so it seems you'd be in favor of protecting the world for yourself! Anyone who would deliberatly hurt, abuse or neglect an animal just because they can do so is not only weak but a pathetic bully.

Darryl [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Dianne, I respect your right to voice your opinion. However, to state; "...any of you angry, bitter, miserable ones..., I believe you need to include yourself after comments in your post.

I believe that several have posted good points that seem to effectively validate some errors to Douglas' LTTE.

Darryl, you are right to an extent - I am at the very least disgusted and sickened to have to live with or around these people who have no regard for the rights animals have to share this world without being shot and tortured just because they don't carry guns, etc. - AGAIN, these animals are here for a reason and yet more and more are disappearing - when the balance of nature is gone, it's gone and there will be no time to wish our world had been respected or protected the way it was created. If this make me bitter, then I'll remain that way. Since you didn't bother to point out all the so-called good points you found in posts, I'll stick to what I said.

geohokie [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

The "balance" of nature was thrown off a LONG time ago when "man" pushed out the natural predators! I guess the more "humane" thing to do is to reinstall the mountain lions, red and grey wolves that used to hunt the piedmont!

Oh and while we are at it we need to add a few elk to the mix as well! I would LOVE to see an 8' tall animal outside my kitchen door every morning!

Fact is, there are more white tailed deer in the US today than there were 200 years ago! The hunters are doing nothing other than trying to restore the balance that was upset by moving out the natural predators. Wildlife Biologists and Ecologists constantly monitor the numbers in the herds and only allow but so many animals to be hunted every year based on the populations.

RTF, I AGREE whole heartedly! There has been way to little stress put on the "human" herd as evidenced in the blogs above!

I agree, the animals are here for a reason, it's called "The Food Chain". They all fit in somewhere. I noticed when listing all the animals being killed, they all omit cows, hogs and chickens, I wonder why?
