War coverage 'pathetic'

In the July 27 News & Record, page A14 on the bottom section, there appeared this one sentence: "The American military announced the deaths of seven U.S. troops."

Has the News & Record become so accustomed and jaded to the deaths of American soldiers that the constant loss no longer is considered worthwhile news? As Eeyore, the old gray donkey in "Winnie-the-Pooh," commented, "Pathetic. That's what it is. Pathetic. But nobody minds, nobody cares. Pathetic, that's what it is."

Is that you, Dr. Purkey??? I guess this is an exapmle of "the liberal media only wants to present the bad news out of Iraq, not all the good news..." BTW, what is the good news???

Maybe the N & R is taking ques from the current WH administration!

I agree however, that the people need to be reminded of the cost of the Bush Middle East Boondoogle. It should be the priority of EVERY media venue to announce the death of EACH soldier giving notice to their name, hometown, etc.

As it stands now, without bringing these deaths to light, the current leading powers believe that the masses will not become angered at the great loss of life. They have not awakened from their respite with Rip Van Winkle though. I feel it is the latter and that they could care less what the masses think/feel!

Carol .. there is good news (really).

Where there have been adequate and sustained US troops, insurgent and sectular violence is down (two different things). We'll have to wait to see if that holds once we leave .. but wait, this is positive news!

Ditto where we made a deal with "reformed" Sunni insurgents - arming them - sectular violence is down. We'll have to see how that plays out in the long run - there is great risk we're just arming the other side in preparation for a true blood bath once we leave .. but wait, this is positive news!

sectular as in sectarian - but I guess that's not a real word. Oh well.
