City's country clubs should share in sacrifice
I applaud our water resources director for recognizing how valuable our municipal sports fields are.
Exempting such public facilities from the water-use restrictions makes sense. Thousands of youth from a broad spectrum of Greensboro's populace use these fields for organized physical recreation, contributing to the public health and teaching teamwork.
On the other hand, giving the same exemption to country clubs simply allows rich white men to pursue business matters on well-groomed greens, contributing only to their private wealth.
I suppose Allan Williams was convinced to do this by the well-used (but never realized) promise of trickle-down benefits. The country clubs could mitigate their apparent disdain for the rest of us by voluntarily not watering. These days, a brown lawn is a badge of honor.

Rich white men? Lady when the last time you been to a golf course?I see blacks, whites, women and children at the golf couses. Golf course pay taxes, have many programs for children, and have a payroll. They also have a big investment in their courses. If you read the lte, one this week spoke of a water shortage in Greensboro in the 40s, when I was in school in the 60s a professer used Greensboro ats a bad example of not working on a water problem. The NR attack golf course to put up a smoke screen, and now a printing lte to support their left wing postition. Whats new? Had your leaders put as time and money in the water problem, as they have in NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST,you may not have a water problem.Of course then , they could not have brought votes and the left wing NR, would be on their case. Of course I am good one talk, I live in Caswell County, we to have a water problem, so what are we working on a high speed internet sham, of course we only have about 10 internet services, Of course we do not have one, that the taxpayers pay for so a bunch of democrats can sit on their ass and put the taxpayers money in their pocket.I begged the NR to sit down with me and one George Ward, who said this internet was sham to the tax payers, then when elected, could not shovel the taxpayers money in this sham fast enough.Well I am off to the golf course, to be around all these rich white men, YEA RIGHT.

John,
In my bid to become Mayor of Greensboro http://www.musecrafters.com/bloggingpoet/2601/Write-in+Billy+Jones+For+Mayor+Of+Greensboro.html
I've pointed out the fact that golf courses should be our lowest priority: http://www.musecrafters.com/bloggingpoet/2676/Who+Says+Golf+Courses+Must+Be+Green%3F.html
And just today I pointed out how we could save millions of gallons a day at almost zero cost:
http://www.musecrafters.com/bloggingpoet/2760/Saving+Millions+Of+Gallons+Of+Water+Today.html
I hope you'll consider voting for a candidate who is not a part of old school Greensboro politricks.

Wonder how a letter that singled out 'poor black men' for a racist stereotyping tirade would go over?
Sad thing is that I actually agree that golf courses are not a priority when the threat of having enough water to DRINK is in the picture. However, I can't see that children's playing fields take priority over drinking water either.

How sad that the racist-tinged comment (yes racism against whites exists in the black community) all but obliterates the LTE writer's point (on which I agree). Mr. Davis, your letter would have been much stronger withOUT the stereotype regarding country clubs.

According to the US census, more than 20% of African American families make more than $60,000 per year in Greensboro, NC. According to these same statistics 27% of White families make more than $60,000 per year in Greensboro, NC. Considering Greensboro is almost 40% African American, and 55% White, I'd have to say things aren't that far out of whack.
With this many African Americans making far more than the median income levels, there would have to be plenty of rich African Amercians in Greensboro as well. While the LTE started out with a good point, the racist angle certainly killed it for me.

Billy I have read all your stuff, problem is I heard this BS before, if you where elected,if you are honest, the media would eat you alive. There is no place for honest people in politics. If you want to do a good job, they will get you. Ask Mr. Wray. Greenboro has had plenty of time to work on their water problem, so blame the folks you elect, not the golf courses. I suggest we cut off water to the NR, they are no better than the golf course.Golf course are not racist, they will take anyone money, the NR is, they live off of left wing BS. You have not heard them bitch about the magicans on Elm St, making your hard earned money disappear. That no knock on magicans they can make a rabbit, reappear, the magicans on Elm St. can not make money reappear. Off to the Golf course, where we have our own water source, we are not using much, all our ponds are full. You folks in Greensboro, I hope you have a good rain soon. You are fine people, I come to Greensboro,3-4 times a month.
Mean time leave the golf courses, alone go after your nutty leaders, with your lte. They are the problem, not the golf courses.Rule of thumb, if the NR endorse them, vote for someone else.

Dog,
Your comments show how ignorant you are of the water shortage. If courses resticted watering to ONLY the greens, millions of gallons would be saved.

Nit,
Show me all the poor black men playing golf here at GCC, and I'll show you some ocean front land in Phoenix. You just talk to hear yourself blab.

Dog,
The difference between myself and the other honest folks is that I have a group of people supporting me. David Wray was going it alone and getting shot at from both sides.
Unlike our current politicans I have nothing to hide, nothing I'm afraid to admit and nothing to loose except the campaign. If I loose the campaign the street gangs will rule Greensboro. Vote for myself and the candidates I endorse and I'll show you change. I'm already working with Joe Wilson and others to change Greensboro for the better.
Think about it this way: I am the only candidate in all of Greensboro, High Point or Guilford County who has a street gang across the street from my house-- what have I got to loose? If I win Greensboro wins.
Write-in Billy Jones for Mayor if you want to see change. And if you think Greensboro is headed in the right direction then vote for the others or don't vote at all.

"You just talk to hear yourself blab."
Actually, I just write to read myself blab. But, yeah, that shoe pretty much fits.

As a rich white golfer, I strongly object to this letter. The true tragedy is that Bryan Park and other local courses have allowed their concern with the so-called "public good" to interfere with their course maintenance. Just because many of you aren't good enough or rich enough to play golf doesn't give you the right to ruin our sport.

Nit says,
"Actually, I just write to read myself blab. But, yeah, that shoe pretty much fits."
The truth shall set you free old boy. You are well on the way toward freedom with the above comment. If only our little Dan would realize his narcissism, he too, would be headed toward freedom. Instead, he writes lte, then posts to it and claims it's not him. Too funny.
Well, the Deacs cleaned his "adopted" school's clock today.
