Development would destroy Haw River park

Haw River is a state park. I have been there and the wetlands look beautiful.

If there is a golf course and a housing development, they could destroy the wetlands. Chemicals from golf courses can hurt the circle of life. If animals from the wetlands become extinct, then we would pay for killing the animals.

I totally disagree with the building of this development. Some people want it to be built, but if you will show them the facts, they might change their minds.

The United States has many houses being built every day. Let's make one development not be able to be built.

Austin,

If you had a clue about the facts you might just change YOUR mind! I guess that you believe that the Religion of "Global Warming" is "mans" fault too!

You comments "they could destroy the wetlands. Chemicals from golf courses can hurt the circle of life." is the furthest from FACT that you can get! The development in question will be a PERMITTED site that the North Carolina State Department of Environment and Natural Resources would oversee directly, including the maintenance of the Wetland and Chemical Applications to the Golf Course. Oh and BTW....NCDENR employs HIGHLY qualified Geologists, Biologists, Wetland Scientists, Entomologists, Hydrogeologists and Engineers who specialized in one or more of the aforementioned disciplines.

Now.....what do you do for a living? Ask yourself are you AS qualified to make these emotional statements about the "environment" as the professionals that WILL be overseeing the operation? How about the people that you have been listening too? I would BET a HUGE amount of money that they too have NO expertise backing their statements!

I am a Hydrogeologists and I certainly wouldn't want to make such embarrassing statements about a discipline that I DIDN"T major in in college!

BUT......maybe that the common sense in me talking!

Geohokie, relax a bit. The kid's only an eighth grader. He's (She's? What gender does Austin go with?) not going to have a broad view of the situation.

And you have to admit that, even though government does try to get reasonably capable new-hires, a large chunk of the good ones either get their hands tied so much that they leave for the private sector or they get vested in the system and become complacent. The bad ones seem to stick around because they know they would never find a place that would allow them so much leeway in making mistakes, and morale goes down because the screw-ups get the same rewards as, and sometimes promotions over, the achievers (do something too well and you will lock yourself into your current position because they can't afford to move you).

Notice I said "a large chunk" and not "all." There will always be a certain percentage of folks who will do their job well regardless of the REMFs in their paneled offices and their committees and sub-committees. Thank goodness.

Stay there a while. You'll see it.

You are right R. Bennet I am embarrassed that I did not see that this LTTE was an 8th grader.....BUT in some ways that makes me even more upset!

This LTTS is the perfect example of the magnanimous environmental movement that the uneducated, environmentally religious followers are blowing around. Instead of teaching their children how to look at FACTS they are teaching them to listen to other uneducated individuals and then just repeat what they hear! Believe what you hear......then tell everyone what you heard!

I think we should have learned our lesson from Chicken Little don't you?

I have yet to meet your REMF's. They must still be holding traffic signs.

R. Bennet [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I don't mind it so much in children, but I think a lot of the same problem works its way into adults. There are a lot of people who need to be told what they believe.

I'm hoping your traffic sign comment is a comical and subtle joke on that recent 10 mile stretch of 85/40 that's going to cost $21+ million to repair. If it wasn't, then my apologies for reading too much into it.

I'm afraid if I write too much more you might be taken into an office and asked why you're socializing with elements such as myself. We all have our own easily recognizable writing styles, and we're close to acknowledging personal things.

Stay young and enthusiastic, my friend.

God knows we need more development and a golf course in this area. State Parks don't provide near the amount of jobs in construction and environmental services.

Roger,

You have successfully diverted my interest from an environmental offensive line to one that is curious and intrigued!

geohokie [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

hugh,

Don't get me wrong here. I am not advocating the development of this property!

The ONLY logical argument that I have heard in the past three months concerning this topic has been, and I quote....."it would be NICE to have a State Park in the area"

All of this banter about saving the environment and I even remember one individual stating that this had something to do with the perceived reduction in polar bear numbers is ABSURD!!!

The point is that uneducated people are leading more uneducated people and this ignorance has bread into a Global Warming Religion!

I am all for a State Park....but if some individual wants to develop the land that they own then by all means they should be allowed to without all of the uneducated rhetoric!

Welcome back Geohokie. I do agree with your points that our young are being fed a lot of misinformation. I think the film "The Lion King" mentions the circle of life. Perhaps Austin got the term from the film, perhaps he/she got it from mom/dad who fed him/her this BS about animals becoming extinct. Sad.

That being said, I would prefer this development not come to fruition due to it's unique location, adjacent to a fledgling state park that could use the land to expand the park into a meaningful facility for all to enjoy.

My prediction is the county will see the property tax $$$ and approve the development.

Note: before anyone jumps on me about animals becoming extinct, I meant animals becoming extinct due to one development in Guilford County.

Geohokie-
This kid is 13 years old. At least look at who you're antagonizing before jumping all over them. Second, your letter contains five grammatical/typographical errors. If you really want to be taken seriously, please PROOF READ. Also, when did global warming become a religion? There sure is more proof about human causation of climate change than there ever will be of Christianity.
Finally, when did DENR EVER effectively oversee ANYTHING ?

RPD,

I think that i tried to back up on the LTTE being a "kid" part.....but none the less Global Warming HAS become a religion...

no, you are right, it's not a religion....it's a CULT....There is more PROOF that you speak of that this warming trend has been happening LONG before MAN though up the invention of steam engines! It's a FACT that the "scientists" that are seated on the Al Gore headed panel to "study" Global Warming are NOT Scientists AT ALL!

NASA has two reports finished this last year that unequivocally conclude that man is NOT the cause of the earth warming......ah.....but alas NASA has not been ALLOWED to publish them since the new FACTS are not politically correct! There is an economy so strong behind this Global Warming CULT that it would break the Nation to dispute it at this point!

If just ONE of the priests (Al Gore) would take a Historical GEOLOGY class, they might understand that they are WRONG blaming MAN for the earths environmental variability!

I would put my money on an educated Biologist, Geologist, and or engineer employed by NCDENR a thousand times over a radical Art major who just happened to take an environmental class in college and now holds a bull-horn and preaches to the masses about how they don't want a golf course in their back yard!

Why don't you educate yourself and go here.....I've had statistics.....and my money is behind the professionals!

RPD,

I forgot to ask for your forgiveness. Scientists are notoriously "right-brained". Language arts are usually not a strong point. That fact aside, please stop ignoring the FACTS by getting hung up in ridiculous details.

I thought that this was an "informal" forum and didn't know that I needed to have a peer review before publishing! So, again please excuse the grammatics and take a "common sense" look at the facts!

Now if everyone would do this....the notion of "Global Warming" would go away!
