May it rest in peace

I was watching WFMY (Channel 2) earlier, and I commend whomever came up with the idea to have a funeral service for the N-word. It's about time.

God never intended for anyone to be degraded, and it pleases me to see a word that degrades finally die.

I just wanted to thank whomever orchestrated this for putting an end to such a childish word.

Did you ever see the movie "Night of the Living Dead"?
As long as there is money to be made catering to infantile audiences with disposable income, such hurtful words will not remain buried.
(lest I be called the other degrading word that begins with the letter "R", my reference is to those of all races who titter at the obscene.)

but it's such a truly descriptive word!

And bucky, it doesn't just refer to black people either!

Good to know it's gone. I look forward to hearing certain segments of society fumble around for a new name to call each other.

Someone should have notified 50-cent. I think he just resurrected the word on his latest album.

nit/hugh, I was wondering if anyone notified certain segments of society.

I would also like to point out to this LTTE writer that there are other words that are just as hurtful, if not more so, that could also use a burial. These words are degrading as well. I am certain that God would not like those words either.

Darryl,

I agree.

Often, more hurtful than the particular word used is the context that it is used in.

Attacking things that one has no ability to control should be buried first. Then, the other hates/biases/prejudices should be next.

I'm a pretty tough nut. It takes quite a bit to penetrate my emotions.

But my youngest kid is still innocent to cruelty and I can see reminders in his eyes of the pain that harsh words and actions can cause.

can i go down in history as the last to utter it?

NIGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess the news hasn't made it to Bill O'Reilly, or the top four GOP candidates for President.

While they don't utter the WORD, they might as well. O'Reilly is amazed that he can sit down in an African American restaurant, and black people are NOT shouting 'motherf__ker' at each other.

The top four GOP Presidential candidates did not show up for the debate sponsored by African Americans and Latinos. Their absence illustrates why I could NEVER be a Republican.

I guess it never crossed LC's mind that the top 4 GOP contenders don't want to waste their time participating in beauty pageant with 4 or 5 other Presidential wannabes whom don't have a prayer of winning their home states let alone the prize.

You are so passé Demon Deacon. The smear de la semaine is against Rush. The O'Reilly smear is history, last weeks smear. Keep up with the news please.

But if you want to resurrect ancient history, don't leave out the smear by Syracuse professor Boyce Watkins on CNN:

"Juan Williams sitting there, is sort of the 'Happy Negro' agreeing with Bill O'Reilly, doesn't impress me at all. A man cannot walk into your home and congratulate your mother for not being a prostitute and not expect you to be offended."

Oh my God, calling a black person another black person a "happy Negro"?????

******************************************

BTW, the use of the term "N-word" just propagates the continuous use of the reference to the word.

Don't you just love how Dan can "discount" the frontrunners NOT showing up for the debate at an historically African American college? Nice spin there Dan. Too bad, but it just drives my point home even further. I could never be a Republican, because I would have to hate black people, Mexicans, and gay people.

Bush says the final GOP nominee should run on the republican record for minorities which he added was "good".

Weeping Jesus on the Cross!! Is he that insulated????

And Dan, you buy into that hook line and sinker. Of course, how do we blame a President whose own mother showed her disconnect from reality at the Houston Astrodome with a racist/elitist comment.
Apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Yes Dan, as you wax sentimental for that "Uncle Remus" character to sing "Zippadydoodah" as he catches a bluebird on his finger, the rest of us will deal with
R-E-A-L-I-T-Y! You are the worst kind of racist, one who won't admit he was pre-loaded with racism by his parents and hasn't changed much since.
