Not much spare water flows through Haw River

Bluegreen Corp. wants to take 100,000 gallons (minimum) per day from the Haw River. Where is this Haw River? If you drive east on I-40/85, or on U.S. 70, you will cross the Haw River in Alamance County. It is recognizable as a river.

To find the Haw River that Bluegreen Corp. wants to develop, you must take a different route and see a very different river.

Drive north on Church Street from its intersection with Wendover Avenue at Moses Cone Hospital. Cross N.C. 150. There's a traffic light, be careful.

About 1 1/2 miles from 150, you will round a curve to the left and cross two little bridges (11.2 miles from Cone Hospital). The first bridge is the Haw River! It's hard to believe; it's not signed, there is not much water. Be careful, they drive pretty fast through there. Go take a look.

Actually I have no fish to fry in this, but I often hear the old line, ".. and you can believe us because we never lie".

.. and the board approves the plan because "Bluegreen's proposal is better planned and much higher in quality than many projects the board reviews". .. so everyone else submits a turd, and Bluegreen just places a ribbon on theirs to get an approval. Now There's a PLAN!

"Patriot's Landing will be so carefully designed .. Guilford could turn into 'something like northern New Jersey in 50 years'."

And so it is the arm pit of New York will stink all the way to the Carolinas.

Wow, I guess everyone has forgotten the direct pipeline that the City of Greensboro hooked up to the Haw River back in 2004 to pipe Haw River water into Lake Townsend in times of drought!

Everyone wants development BUT no one wants it in their back yard! I think that all of this opposition to Bluegreen is the ATV four-wheeler owners that don't want to loose the free riding space and the opportunity to trespass without getting caught that is currently in their back yards! Nothing kills a good ride faster than a security fence or camera!

The State of North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources has to approve the permit for the water removal through the Aquifer Protection Section! The Department reviewing and approving the permit is called a "Protection Section" for a "reason"!

You REALLY believe that ALL this opposition is some rednecks on a 4-wheeler?

I think geohokie has hit the nail on the head. Yes, there are many environmentalists who are actively supporting a State Park, but the ones who feel threatened are the ones he mentions. If you don't believe it, ask people who live around there or ask people down in the Southern and Southeastern part of Guilford County where 4 wheelers have crisscrossed private property and have taken down fences to do so---especially around Causey Airfield.

Nitpicker,

Yes! I do! I live about 2 miles from the proposed development. I have been tempted to start spreading tacks! I know for a fact based on my neighbors who own less than an acre BUT buy a $10,000 four wheeler and then think that they can ride where ever they want.....and they do.....right through our yard!

The new air park located on 150 near the railroad tracks has had several incidents of vandalism and theft because the 4-wheelers are mad that a new fence has been placed around a field that they used to ride on without being caught!

I personally know several residents in the neighborhood immediately adjacent to the proposed development. I know why these people are mad! It has nothing to do about being good stewards the environment and everything to do with their own personal agendas! A State park would allow for unfettered access to areas where they can ride without being caught! The GC sheriff has been actively trying to enforce these "rednecks" and has little ability to chase them into the woods where they hide!

Bluegreen wants to take some of those woods away from them.....of course they are going to yell foul!

I guess they'll switch one brand of redneck for another brand that puts golf clubs in the back of another kind of four-wheeler.

The only thing I know about Bluegreen is that they paid me $100 to listen to a salespitch on timeshares for an hour a few years ago.

When the hour came to pass, I said it was time to go.

The lady got disgusted with me and said "So, you aren't even interested in a timeshare?"

I said "No, not really. Maybe you should have asked me that about an hour ago when you agreed to pay me $100"

Geohokie, you should post a "No Trespassing Sign." If you do, you can legally kill anyone who comes on your property.

Brian,

Good suggestion! I think that the RC Airfield participants have retrofitted their airplanes with BB shooters too!

If these idiots would just stay on their own property and mess it up, there wouldn't be any problems! I work too hard on mine for some "redneck" to come along and decide to do donuts in the back yard.....and they have!

How about Rockingham county? All they get from this development is 17 homesites and a sewage treatment facility. Sounds like a winner to me.
