Plenty of work to do in Jena and in America

It's evident that a criminal assault was committed in Jena, La. The problem is with the Louisiana legislature, not the district attorney. The law is what it is.

Also, school administrators should have done a better job. Suspensions should have been in order when the first noose was hung. Jena school officials were aware of the history of the tree that only white students socialized under.

Jena is like most small towns in America. It's unable to embrace diversity, unable to engage in dialogue with the disenfranchised and unable to think outside the box.

Let's make no mistake. This is not an MLK Jr. moment. The good doctor would never advocate a physical assault on a another human. I would like to see black leadership spend more time helping black people overcome economic hardships, creating business opportunities so we can become self-reliant; educating black youth about our history; and eradicating Jim Crow laws that some municipalities overtly and covertly practice.

It frustrates me when I see "Pimp Ph.Ds" and "Pimp Pastors" play on the emotions of the youthful and simple-minded. I hope all who took the drive to Jena, both black and white, realize that there's plenty of work to do.

Myron Johnson

A detail often overlook in the discussions I hear about this matter is that the Principal's recommendation to expel the three white students who'd hung the nooses was overturned by the school board.

Now whether expulsion would have shown a firm enough hand to end it there or not, who knows, but it does reinforce my argument for LOCAL control of schools as a way out of the mess.

ca...ca...can't we just chalk this up as 'experiencing diversity' at one of our 'bulwarks of democracy' and move on?

Can you show where the nooses, had anything to do with these beatings? Even Allen Johnson, admitted he did not know.It odd that everyone wants to hang the folks that hung the nooses, and the same crowd never says a word about punishment for the beaters. Beating a person is wrong! I get tried of hearing it was a school yard fight, and the weapon they used was only sneakers. The liberal press is doing these black men no justice by telling them this ok, by running to their rescue. They are sending the message, that anything you do is ok. I say give them the same punishment that anyone else would get. And let them get on with their lives, and pray they have learned something.

yea, you're right Doggie, it's all the lame stream media's fault.

Here's a question: Why is the media lame stream?

Here's one answer: Because the media produces what attacts readers that match the advertisers. Think about that and get back to me.

Here's another question: Why do the righties chastise the lame stream media - while also always touting the value of market economics?

Seems to me the media is doing the market economics thing.

James,
While Dog may get your post, it is way above the pay grade for little PUSSY kat. If he doesn't find it on his right wing blog, then he has no idea how to think.

JDR, yet again, excellent points.

I too wonder why the outcry over charging the 6 who beat the one with some form of assault, regardless of race of any. I feel that the charges given were somewhat strong. Yet, some form of assault or battery needed to happen.

DO NOT blame one student for the injustice enacted by the school board (sounds like Terry Grier had a hand in it).

As noted above, would the punishment of those who hung the nooses in Jena been enough to stop the reactions that transpired?

When will we ever learn?

Dog made a great point.

The nooses were a COMPLETELY separate issue. No relationship has been shown that the beatings were tied to the nooses. In fact, from what I've read, they were not.

I agree with Darryl that the charges went overboard. Was that racially motivated? My guess is that race factored into it and for THAT reason, I can see why people should protest.

I support Myron Johnson's letter except I'd make one change.

"I would like to see black leadership" become simply "leadership".

I'd also like to see "more time helping black people overcome" become "more time helping PEOPLE overcome".

YES!

How about the top four GOP candidates NOT showing up at the Morgan State debate? If that is not the biggest "slap in the face" to African Americans, I can't even imagine what is. Perhaps it was also the dodging of the NAACP convention too.
President Bush says the GOP has a great record and the nominee should run on it! LOL!

You know, that great record with African Americans called the response to
K-A-T-R-I-N-A! That compassionate conservatism was overflowing from the Bush White House.

You're right Dog.

Apparently more people are catching on to the lamestream media's tactics and are jumping ship. I'm glad I don't own any of their stock. They are pandering to a shrinking audience and only the liberals can muster any defense of them anymore:

Some slap. Surely you can imagine a bigger slap.

No one ever claimed he was up to date, but

THIRTEEN YEARS AGO????

No wonder people on this blog call him a

Brian444,
You are right!

The biggest SLAP in the face came when

George W. Bush watched the televised

pictures coming out of Louisiana and did

nothing. Oh, he did say, "Brownie, you're

doing a heckuva job"! That's right.

Oh, and his mother, from her Ivory Tower,

proclaimed that the people were poor anyway,

so the staying in the Dome was working out

well for them.

Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but someday the GOP chickens will come home to roost.
Their treatment of African Americans, women and homosexuals is dispicable, And the comments coming from Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh are NOT helping them atone for their sins either. Today's GOP is NOT the party of Lincoln, but the party of Swift Boaters, David Duke, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Steve Arnold, Billy Yow, et al.
The GOP becoming the party of God, Guns and Gay Bashing, is truly sad for all of us, whether Independent or Democrat. And especially if you are a tolerant, moderate Republican---do they still exist????

Aren't all these inept minorities, who are evidently incapable of taking care of themselves, if one is to believe the liberals, lucky to have white liberals to nurture and defend them from all of life's injustices?

Must be nice...

PUSSY kat,
As usual, no substance, all fluff. Well, at least you've got Larry Craig back to wave you on under the stall divider.
