Wear your seat belts because it's the law

I'd like to stress one important fact to Christopher Rees, who thinks he has the right not to buckle his seat belt as long as it doesn't do anyone any harm (letter, Sept. 19). It is the law.

I could say I want to grow marijuana in my backyard and smoke it in my home (hypothetically speaking, of course) as long as it doesn't do anyone any harm. Wrong.

We may not agree with all the laws our elected officials have enacted, but we are bound by law to obey them.

And if the laws are wrong, we are bound by God to defy them.

Slavery was once a law too, y'know.

Why is that wrong? Makes more sense than not wearing a seat belt. Have you TRIED Marijuana?

The last 2 Presidents have. What's that tell you?

nit, it tells me that one of the last two presidents DID inhale while the other did not. Look at those two presidents and decide for yourself who DID inhale!

CK, I agree that if the laws are wrong that we are bound by FAITH to disobey the specific laws. However, this is regarding laws that would cause one to go against her/his faith principles as well. I do not see how a seat belt law would do the aforementioned.

Darryl,

I believe they both inhaled. And a lot more than once. I don't really care. I don't believe marijuana causes any lasting damage. I also believe they both drink way too much.

I'm waiting for the candidate who says "Yeah, I smoked weed but I promise I won't do it while I'm in office". You'd think they'd drug-test the president. They drug-test forklift drivers but not the guy with his finger on the nuke button?

There have been times where I thought Bush was three sheets to the wind while giving speeches. As an acting President, I think you should commit yourself to drink in moderation if you are going to drink. You never know when you'll be called to make some pretty important decisions.
