Don't tell the bad guys that the police are slow

This is to all of the media: When will you people get it through your heads that telling all the gangs, crooks and would-be crooks how slow the response of the police is only adds to the problems? If we would only work to get more officers on the force, the men and women could do the job they are trained to do.

Thanks to the reader who gave the praise to the police recently. It is about time.

Catherine,
You seem to lack ANY understanding of how these things work. At a recent gang forum I attended I was told by Guilford County Deputies that one of the first things gangs learn is to fire their guns in the air and time how long it takes for police to get there.

I suggest you quit targeting the messengers and actually learn about the problem.

Not only do we need more officers on the force, we need to make sure the one's we have are not crooks themselves.

Regarding the recent praise of the police department, surely to goodness the letter writer isn't actually referring to the lady who commended the police for their quick response to her call regarding a light being on in her storage building. I'm still trying to figure that one out!! It's those types of calls that are delaying response times for real crimes.

ever been in a situation where you needed the police quickly ? well i can tell you from experience that a 10 minute wait is eternity, the person who thought 10 minutes was a quick response ought to see how quickly an officer down call is responded to, but the uniform somehow is more important than the average citizen. kel you are spot on with your 11:58 post !
