Speech shows Giuliani appreciates immigrants
Good words need to be heard again, like those in David Brooks' column (Nov. 24). He writes on immigration with quotes from an address made on Oct. 10, 1996. Some of those quotations follow:
"I'm pleased to ... talk about the anti-immigrant movement in America, and why I believe this movement endangers the single most important reason for American greatness, namely, the renewal, reformation and reawakening that's provided by the continuous flow of immigrants.
"I believe that the anti-immigrant movement is one of our most serious public problems."
Those words come not from a Democrat but from a Republican candidate for president, Rudy Giuliani. Perhaps there is hope for our country, "with liberty and justice for all."

Brady,
Giulani is just trying to find someone who will give him a vote. The "Anti-immigrant movement" he is talking about is not the admission of immigrants into the country. It is the stopping of the flood of illegals who are coming into our country and trampling on the very freedoms our fathers fought for. We may as well open the prisions and let those people out too so we will have a more balanced community.

legal immigrants yes. illegals no. It amazing how many people like the NR that supports breaking into our country. Would they approve of house breaking?

I approve of house breaking, done it with many puppies over the years ;-) Just playing Dog.
Notice how the vocabulary has changed? It used to be "illegal immigrant", then switched to "undocumented worker", now it's simply "immigrant". No difference made between legal and illegal. So if you don't support illegal immigration then you are "anti-immigrant". Check.
I've yet to meet a person who is anti-legal immigration.

Guiliani has indeed been a first-class panderer to the illegal lobby --- but Guiliani is small potatoes in that department compared to the media's new "GOP darling," Mike Huckabee.
The news media loved Amnesty John McCain, they LOVE South Carolina's Senator (Lindsey) Grahamnesty. Now the Huckster has them absolutely fawning. Here's why: Roy Beck, president of 500,000-strong NumbersUSA, on Mike Huckabee:
"He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor. Every time there was any enforcement in his state, he took the side of the illegal aliens." ("Immigration group: Huckabee a 'disaster,'" Washington Times, Nov. 30, 2007):

My own Huckabee sampler --- with supporting links
1) Huckabee (2005) delights League of United Latin American Citizens [LULAC] convention with talk of Arkansas’ need to cherish diversity "in culture, in language and in population" — and of the prospect of whites' minority status:
"'Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority,' Huckabee said jokingly as the [LULAC] crowd roared in laughter." (“Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention,” Arkansas News Bureau, by Wesley Brown, June 30, 2005):

2) Huckabee (2006): The "rational approach” to illegal immigration is to give illegal aliens a path to citizenship:
“I tend to think that the rational approach is to find a way to give people a pathway to citizenship . . . To think that we're going to go lock up 12 million people, or even round them up and drive them to the border and let them go, might make a great political speech, but it's not going to happen . . . I know that there are some who think that anything less than essentially grabbing them by the nape of the neck and tossing them over a fence, real or imaginary, is amnesty.” (“Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: Interview With The Fix's Chris Cillizza and The Post's Dan Balz, Washington Post, May 23, 2006):
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/22/AR2006052201237.html
COMMENT: Huckabee uses a common straw man argument. His logic is analogous to saying the IRS should forget trying to tax income since there is no way audit 100 million tax returns. Spot audits, in fact, of a miniscule percentage of returns get very good compliance. So it would be if ICE were to conduct spot audits of employers.
3) Huckabee (2007): American needs to give in-state tuition and scholarships to children illegally in the U. S. --- and thus reward law-breaking parents as they, too, will be eligible for a path to citizenship when the student turns 21, starting the chain migration process for extended family:
“...my reasons for supporting the idea that if a student had been in our schools and behaved and had done everything that we asked of one of the students in our schools, then it’s in our best interests to let the student apply for the scholarship because part of the provision is they have to apply for citizenship. But here’s the other part: you don’t punish the child for the parents having broken the law. We don’t do that . . . I just don’t understand why anybody would think that’s a good idea . . .” (NewsHour with Jim Lehrer — excerpt of interview with Margaret Warner, October 5, 2007:

This is a long-standing position of the Governor --- as this one-minute YouTube clip from a January 11, 2005 State of the State speech will illustrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbKA4HqjpeA
4) Huckabee (2005) denounces Republican bill in Arkansas to deny benefits to illegal aliens as un-Christian, un-American":
"They [illegal aliens] pay sales taxes on their groceries. They pay fuel taxes. If they're using a fake Social Security number, they're paying Social Security taxes and will never receive any benefit. It would be closer to the truth to say they're subsidizing Joe McCutchen and Jim Holt [Republican sponsors of the bill] more than the other way around. Something that's not worth sharing is not worth celebrating. This is the kind of country that opens its doors. This bill expresses an un-American attitude." ("Immigration bill un-Christian, anti-life, governor says," Arkansas News Bureau by Doug Thompson, Jan 28, 2005):

Neither Huckabee nor Guiliani could care less about illegal aliens. They both simply want to preserve the pool of cheap second-class-citizen labor that illegal immigration provides. The only way to stop it is to impose requirements and means for businesses to screen out illegals, and bust the companies that don't comply. No candidate from either party is pushing for this. They all seem to feel that what's good for the business community is good for the country.
Huckabee quote from prev post: "They [illegal aliens] pay sales taxes on their groceries. They pay fuel taxes. If they're using a fake Social Security number, they're paying Social Security taxes and will never receive any benefit. That sums it up. Illegals are not bad people themselves. They do our most menial jobs and accept second-class citizen status. If they all went back to Mexico or whereever, we would all suffer from the economic trauma. No candidate from either party has the guts to truly push for that.

The only one who has talked the talk on illegal immigration is Fred Thompson.
None of the democrats will address it at all. (It's obvious what side they are on) Guiliani, Huckabee, McCain are all on the wrong side. When I say the wrong side, I mean the opposite side of 90% of Americans.
I think this is one of, if not, THE most important issue facing America. It involves border security, jobs, crime, terrorism, etc.
We need to solve this issue ASAP.

America disagrees with you, nit. On Monday I heard of two national pools (can't remember the sources -- think one was Zogby). One has immigration #6 on the issues list, the other has it #5 among Republicans. So I doubt it's going to get anyone into or out of the WH.
