Spirit of the season is alive in Greensboro
Recently I joined the ranks as a Kiwanis volunteer for the Salvation Army annual Christmas drive and am pleased to acknowledge the spirit of giving is alive in Greensboro.
I'm not sure whether a cheerful greeting/smile or the bell-ringing gained the attention of passing diners; yet, the Spirit of Christmas prevails. Their gifts were reflected in many happy faces; children laughed and adults felt good about themselves. It was a good occasion.
Oftentimes a bell rung awakens us to responsibility and rewards us with a good feeling.
I encourage all of us to seek opportunities of service, complimenting our fellow man. It's contagious and can last throughout the year.
Greensboro Kiwanis Club serves the children of our community and the world.

I support the Salvation Army's efforts and I like the fact that they collect at stores around our community at this time of year.
However, that bell-ringing really gets on my nerves. I guess it's effective but many times it makes folks feel like they are being shamed into giving money. I've heard many people say that so it's not just me. I actually went to a store the other day where there was no bell ringer and the bucket was just sitting there. I felt much more compelled to give without someone watching and did.

I always kick in a buck when I pass one of the SA's bucket, bell ringing or no. It's one of the few charities that has the best interest of the people they serve as their goal, imo, of course.

neocon,
I agree. It is a great organization that actually walks the walk.
