Civil Rights Museum a better project for Rotary

Bob Plain has a point (letter, Jan. 8).

I have been a Rotarian for more than 15 years, but I have to admit to some doubt about the relative merit of the carousel project endorsed by the Greensboro Rotary Club.

As Plain suggests, support for the Civil Rights Museum would be so much more meaningful.

Do Rotarians like throwing their money down a bottomless pit?

Probably not as a whole, just certain clueless folks like Jim here. Perhaps he's new to the area and doesn't know the history of Skippy and Earl.

Jim,

My letter on 1/8 got some good response, here and by phone. I think we may be on to something. There are past problems in every project that gets bogged down and needs to be revitalized. Here are the common things we share. We believe the International Civil Rights Museum is good and worthy. We want the International Civil Rights Museum to open.
Let's concentrate on these things and move forward.
Maybe the N&R should do a story on where we are, what are the obstacles to moving forward and what are some "new" options to overcome "old " obstacles. Maybe we have a head start in new funding with help from the Rotarians.
The International Civil Rights Museum would be the way to celebrate Greensboro's upcoming anniversary!

The CR museum and the carousel seem to share the goal of going in circles, but only with the carousel does it make sense.

Bob & Jim, if you guys and anyone else wants to use your private money for the museum a carousel or whatever else then go for it. Get the word out and seek donations.

This effort stated in 1993 and it still isn't open. 15 years later. It has received public funding in the past. Voters have rejected museum bonds, twice. Most people are all for the museum, just not with taxpayer money. Especially with the ineffective chair and vice chair in charge.

It's your money, go for it.

Danny,
Why don't we "relocate" it out in the County where you could actually have some input?!
