Folks, the ONLY place where that type stuff is uttered is right here in Guilford County. Ask the Governor, Lt. Governor, and any respectable person who KNOWS about education, and they will tell you that Guilford is the envy of Wake, Mecklenburg, Durham, and Cumberland.
Mecklenburg is being turned into a sewer by the white flight and Wake's former "stellar" reputation has been tarnished of late.

Which County had the largest increase in the creation of private and parochial schools?
WAKE.

With all the crap that gets posted on this site from lunatics of the fringe, we still have a great education system here in Guilford. How many children does neocon have in public schools? Others, myopic in most things, are either retired or just regurgitate what the local papers spit out for circulation.

For those with young children, who are racists at heart, they have no problem telling you how bad the schools are--to purely justify to themselves why they are putting out so much money to keep their kids in a "white" school....oh, excuse me, I think they like to say, "safe" school.

Again, add up the scholarships to students from local public high schools----oh that's right, you've got to keep your child "safe".

OFFER SUPPORT TO YOUR CHILD'S TEACHERS!

Typical, Demon Deacon managed to work racism into his post. Disagreeing with the way the GCS are run makes one a racist? That's the same misdirection as folks telling people they are antisemitic because they have disagreements with the national polices of the Nation of Israel. Please don't taint us with your white guilt because your grandparents were racists.

How many kids do you have in the GCS system, DD? I've got 2 kids and 15 years worth of dealing with these folks, I thank-God I've only got a few public school years left. My kid understands that all the state testing, teacher babysitting videos, classroom "parties" (oops, can't use that word anymore, meant "celebration") and administrative time consuming make-work that goes on has nothing to do learning.

With the exception of the initial teaching certificate teachers don't have to pass competency tests--Why? There are some lousy teachers in GCS. How often are they fired for poor performance? I've seen several terrible ones over the years and only two of them ever got the boot. As it currently exists, this system fosters incompetence and is administratively top heavy.

What a pant load statement to make. Folks of your ilk are the ones who take a good, high performing school like SW Guilford and redistrict it so the test scores come down. Can't have a stellar performing school that shines the light of incompetence on other schools in the same district, can we?

Hugh, you're right on. Southwest got Grier-ended. Instead of dealing with the problems, they just decided to bus them to good schools. Result: Southwest fails their AYP. Never would have happened without a pathetic superintendent and schoolboard.

It's not white-flight, though. It's folks who value their kids education who have or can scratch up the resources to get their kids out of the joke that is called GCS.

They "KNOWS" how shuffle the deck and come up with the desired numbers, while kids are graduating with NO idea what it takes to be successful in ANYTHING...except how to don a rubber or use corn oil for a lubricant in emergencies.

neocon has no children in the GC zoo system...and is glad of it. The youngest one escaped last year and is now beginning his real education at a local community college. He has already attended a couple of 'job fairs' and he was astounded that prospective employers didn't really seem to place a high priority on 'diversity', and they really didn't give a damn about black history month or how tough it is on gays because they cannot exchange vows in public without feeeeling discriminated against.
They were interested in what the students knew about their chosen field and what they could contribute to their company. Imagine that!!!

According to Demon Deacon, if you put your kids in a private school at K-12 level you are a racist.

K-12 public schools = Good
K-12 private schools = Bad

However on the collegiate level it's the opposite for Demon Deacon. You've likely seen the many times he's mocked me for attending UNC-G for 2 years as if UNC-G, a public university, is inferior. Meanwhile Demon Deacon graduated from WFU, a private university.

Public university = Bad
Private university = Good
